Locala - Desmond Description

Desmond is a team working together to improve opportunities for learning and support for people with type 2 diabetes or at the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and the health care professionals involved with them.

The Desmond modules are detailed written curriculums where participants are made to feel welcome and involved by our educators.
Educators are all healthcare professionals working within the community.

Participants are encouraged to discover and work out knowledge with support from the educators rather than being 'taught'.

DESMOND provides evidence based facts and up to date information about Diabetes.

people in Kirklees and beyond. We are a Community Interest Company (CIC) an
independent, not for profit social enterprise.

Being a social enterprise means we have the freedom to improve and develop what we do. We still deliver NHS services but in a much more coordinated, integrated and
community focussed way.

The people who are most in touch with patients' needs - doctors, nurses and
therapists as well as elected members of the public are directly involved in shaping as
well as providing our services - and that has to be good for you and your family.

Not-for-profit
As we are a not-for-profit business, any financial surplus is re-invested back into
supporting patient care.

If you're at risk of type 2 diabetes, you may be able to prevent it developing by making lifestyle changes.
You should: - eat a healthy, balanced diet - lose weight (if you're overweight) and maintain a healthy weight ... - stop smoking (if you smoke) - drink alcohol in moderation - take plenty of regular exercise
If you already have type 2 diabetes, it may be possible to control your symptoms by making the above changes. This will also minimise your risk of developing complications. Read more about living with type 2 diabetes. http://www.nhs.uk/Conditi…/Diabetes-typ e2/…/Living-with.aspx
