Although the bulk of our work comes in the form of major redecoration and refurbishment work, we do also get through quite a lot of minor works and repairs too. Mostly though, these type of works just don't make good photos.. Recently, works have included bath and handbasin leaks, blocked drains, new light fittings, floor repairs and the like, but our latest one did offer the opportunity for some reasonable pics.. What we had was a large hole in a plasterboard wall. We cut the board back in order to fit a new piece of plasterboard, which was then scrim taped and skimmed.. Further minor preparation followed before patching the wallpaper with what was the customers only piece of wallpaper which she had saved, just in case! And was that piece of paper needed now! Here are the pics..

Well! It's been quite awhile since our last update! The job both myself and Claire have been tied up with has taken quite a few weeks to bring to completion.. What a job! Nothing straightforward here at all, having to work round user groups and staff, our time just wasn't our own, working night shifts, evening shifts, long shifts, day shifts, short shifts. Just whatever we could do! But we had a fantastic time with lots of laughs thrown in. The staff were awesome and nothing was too much for them.. The job was the main hall, which was in a bad state of disrepair.. With large holes in the walls and ceiling, loose plaster, large cracks and water stains..

Here now are the pics from our latest episode in our ongoing adventure.. What we had was a double staircase/landing, which really needed bringing back to life again. The shelving and all other woodwork apart from doors needed to go into white, the doors into the customers colour, the ceilings into white and the walls into a colour we mixed for the customers.. There was an awful lot of preparation to be done on the job and the woodwork seemed to go on forever, but we got there in the end..

Finally finished this hall, stairs, landing! It's been a job and a half but it's been lots of fun all the way too. The hall, stairs, landing had already been fully stripped, bar from a little bit under the stairs.. A dado rail was already fitted throughout, so, for our part, after our usual meticulous preparation, we papered down to the dado rail in a white blown vinyl. After this we emulsioned the ceilings in white, emulsioned the walls over the white blown vinyl in a nice... grey, undercoated and glossed the woodwork in white and finished off with a nice two tone reflective blown vinyl under the dado rail.. As an additional touch, under the stairs ( which is to be used as a children's area ) we lined the walls, painted one wall blue and papered the two side walls in a marvel characters paper. The work was finally finished off with the fitting of new light fittings..

After completing a four day job, both Claire and myself went straight on to this full flat which needed doing urgently! We managed to turn it around in 8 very long days. Oh! We did have help for the first 2 days as we took Danielle along too! She worked like a trooper 😀

Both Claire and myself count our blessings as everybody who we meet and go on to do our work for, are always, without fail, really nice, thoughtful, giving people.. This little end of week job and the customers have been no different! Really nice people who went out of their way to make us both feel at home.. The job required the front staircase wall on the bulkhead to be prepared and emulsioned, a bedroom wall to be prepared, lined and papered in Laura Ashley paper and the... small bulkhead wall in the kitchen to be prepared, lined and papered, also in a Laura Ashley paper... While the preparation was relatively minor, it was really important to pay particular attention to a few areas of that preparation, as to not do so would have made a massive and immediate impact to the final finish of the job.. It is absolutely essential to line any walls where Laura Ashley paper is going on, which is a largely unforgiving paper in terms of hanging, and tends to highlight every imperfection in a wall..

This was a really nice little job for really nice people! What we had was a bedroom which had lost its brightness and colour and was also suffering with some quite obvious cracks and a bit of mould.. We treated, cleaned and blocked out the mould area, raked out and filled the cracks and scraped off the loose paint, sanded the edges and fine surface filled the imperfections. We had a previously papered wall, which after stripping, had a gold effect paint on. This wall was ...cleaned down with sugar soap before painting. The woodwork needed a good clean down and sanding as well as debris raking out from between the grippers and skirting.. While painting the skirtings, we needed to strike a more positive, false line, bringing the paint onto the wall to give definition, rather than following the contours and having a wobbly line.. Here are the pics..

A week with a difference!! Both Claire and myself embarked upon a very intensive plumbing course and were really put through our paces over the course of the week. Starting with simple practicing the different types of fittings, compression, push fit, end feed and solder.. we were then thrown in at the deep end, fitting all the pipework and fittings for a bathroom.. From there it was into the classroom to learn all about the different types of toilet cistern fittings and ho...w to do repairs.. After this we took all the bathroom apart and then moved on to fitting two radiators and all the pipework.. Then we were given a leak to repair! Lots more classroom stuff then onto the kitchen, fitting pipework, including waste pipes, fittings, connections for a washing machine and a garden tap into the bargain. What a course!! Although I think we're suffering from information overload just now..

Here we have our last job before Christmas. The hall, stairs and landing were down for a fresh new look of white ceiling and a diamond eggshell on the walls, undercoat and gloss the woodwork. We firstly needed to line the wall at the top of the staircase, and on closer Inspection, we found lots of hairline cracks in the walls which needed opening out and filling, holding up the job quite a lot actually! But we got there in the end! Lovely customers who just left us to it, with lots of tea, biscuits and mince pies..

Living room..
What a challenge this turned out to be!!
... The living room was dated, with artex ceilings, an old fireplace, polystyrene coving and terrible walls.. The plans were to get the polystyrene coving down, strip the walls, get a plasterer in for the plastering work, while we worked in other areas of the house.. Line the remaining walls and paint.. What a difference the end result turned out to be!
