Want to learn to lead climb indoors for free? Or just pick up some coaching tips for your lead climbing?... I can happily offer a free indoor lead climbing day on Tuesday 8th May at Leeds Wall. Just turn up at 11am, pay yourself in (about £7) and get some free coaching! Easy. We will be finished by 3.00pm. I will be assessing instructors who want to be able to teach lead climbing (CWLA Assessment). They will be under my watchful eye! If you or anyone you know want to learn to: lead climb lead belay effectively (including holding falls) improve with 1 to 2 coaching including effective clipping, resting and body position, route reading and sport climbing tactics. You must be able to top rope belay effectively and climb to around F5/5+ for the last few months. Spaces are tight though so if you want to reserve one please get back in touch and its yours. 4 people are to be assessed so the course will not be cancelled. The new Rock Climbing Instructor Award will be with us soon (April 2nd) so here are the dates of the last Single Pitch award I'm delivering, ever! Thoroughly enjoyed my CWLA training and assessment with Dan. I traveled from Liverpool for the training and decided to return to be assessed! The day was tailored to our requirements and the assessment was run perfectly with real people wanting to lead and as such could be treated with reality. I would highly recommend anyone looking to train in the MT awards to have confidence in Dan and enjoy the experience!

Just finished a CWA training course with Dan McKinlay and I am buzzing with positivity for my future! The course, with abseil module, was fantastic and Dan is one of the most experienced climbers/mountaineers i’ve ever had the pleasure to meet. He covered everything you need to know for the syllabus of the CWA award and amazed us with his rope wizardry! On top of all of that he is quite simply the nicest chap you’ll ever tie knots with. A gem of a man and one you’d most definitely be happy to have with you in the hills. Book a course with him and never look back!

I did for training and assessment with Dan for both my CWA and CWAA. Dan was excellently professional and informative throughout. Excellent course. Highly recommended.

Great course, great instructor. Really enjoyed my weekend with Dan and found the course itself surpassed my expectations. I look forward to doing my assessment with McKinlay Mountaineering and would thoroughly recommend to anyone looking to get their climbing qualifications.

Did my ML training with Dan and John Proctor. Both instructors were absolutely spot on. I learned a lot and received some really helpful feedback. I liked having the course split between instructors - it was great to see some different leadership styles to learn from and adapt. 10/10, looking forward to booking my assessment.

Did CWAA training with Dan and it was excellent, learnt a lot and have a good idea on what to expect at assessment and the timescale I'd be looking at for doing it. Dan has a wealth of experience so is a great person to do courses with.

Dan was the most patient and considerate climbing instructor I have ever worked with. He makes all the training programs exceptional and fun while still making sure that you learn so much at the same time. For any future training courses I won't be looking any further at all and would be willing to travel all the way across the country if it meant getting training with Dan. Couldn't be improved at all �
