Nhs Wakefield Clinical Commissioning Group Description

NHS Wakefield Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) covers 40 GP practices and has a registered population of 354, 096 patients in the Wakefield area.

It is chaired by Dr Phil Earnshaw, a practising GP based in Ferrybridge. Jo Webster is the Chief Officer and its headquarters are in Wakefield. The Board includes practice, nurse, secondary care and lay representation.

Twelve out of the 21 wards in our area are in the UK’s 25% most deprived and life expectancy is below the national average.

There are also above average levels of teenage pregnancy, obesity and smoking-related illnesses such as heart disease, stroke and cancer.

We are committed to commissioning quality services that will improve local patients’ experiences of care and their health outcomes.

Our priorities are:

- Care to address all of a person’s needs, delivered by people with a combination of skills working as one team

- Better access to GPs and services in the community – including longer opening hours

- High quality urgent and emergency care – local services for routine care and specialist services for very serious illnesses or injuries

- Better organised planned care – including outpatient appointments and surgery

- Maternity care

- Mental health and wellbeing

- Specialist services for stroke, cancer, children and young people.

Great organisation and very responsive to comments, a privilege to work with.

Wanted to complain after I had been spoken to rudely but the lady was rushing to a meeting so she said she was coming back but never did. Then last night I’d really had enough - rang the night matron and was told in no uncertain terms that her “only priority was relatives!!!”

So don’t patients have any say?
