The Bundestag is revamping German national security. Perhaps a wise move in this current climate of political turbulence.

Gerhard Schröder exited German politics to then become a board member at two Russian oil companies, Rosneft and Gazprom.
He is the epitome of the so-called 'liberal elite' - a reputation that has beleaguered his own party in recent months.
He doesn't have a leg to stand on

We stand in solidarity with other student-run initiatives at P:P. To this end, we would like to share with our readership the opportunity to submit a max 3,000 word piece to the University of Leeds Human Rights Journal on the theme of 'Borders' by 11th February.
Human rights have a special resonance in a European and German-speaking context where approaches vary between Germany and Austria regarding the integration of refugees and migrants, for example. But of course, this op...portunity offers a wider, non-Eurocentric scope for our readers and contributors who are intellectually engaged in human rights beyond Mitteleuropa; Chechnyan extermination of homosexuals in Russia; second-tier Russian citizens in the Baltics; the ferrying of North African migrants and refugees across the Mediterranean, etc.
For more info, please read the poster below, or alternatively get in contact with Mailies Fleming.
P.S. Don't forget P:P's submission deadline on the 4th February..!

Ostpolitik was the trademark policy of Willy Brandt, the SPD Chancellor who revived the relationship between East and West.
As Foreign Minister Heiko Maas flies out to Moscow, we ask: how can Germany once again revitalise relations between Europe and Russia in the context of a globalised world?
Also this is a very informative read!

German Finance Minister Heiko Maas has given hope to Brexiteers voting down May's deal this evening. These last minute comments have only added to das Shitstorm that is encircling Westminster today.

As the British media pulls its hair out over today's Brexit vote at 7pm, it makes sense to get a Perspektiv on today's action from Germany.

The German Parliament today fell victim to an unprecedented cyber attack, with the personal details of Bundestag MPs being released into the public domain. The motives are unclear, but AfD politicians seem to have not been targeted.

In her Neujahr address to the nation, Angela Merkel emphasised the need to bolster Germany's presence on the international stage, increasing spending on humanitarian aid and defence.

Isabel Schnabel - a member of the German Council of Economic Experts - expresses concerns over levels of debt in the Italian banking sector. Italian banks may soon be no longer eligible for additional credit support, which could see the Eurozone falter.

Nord Stream 2 has always been a divisional project. Not only is it a potential cause of further destabilisation in Ukraine, it is now dividing the West across the pond. Today the US House of Representatives passed a motion condemning the project.
