About Primary Care Training Centre

Multi-disciplinary training for ALL members of the Primary Care team.

Primary Care Training Centre Description

The Primary Care Training Centre has been training health care professionals and non-clinical staff for over fifteen years. During that time, many thousands of students have successfully completed one of our courses or study days.

The PCTC runs distance learning courses accredited by Teesside University in Diabetes, Cardiovascular Disease, Women's Health, Respiratory Disease and Minor Illness and Injuries. We also have an accredited pathway for Health Care Assistants, and an AMSPAR-approved course for Receptionists, together with a wide range of study and update days.

Workshop sessions are delivered by our own team of tutors, all of whom actually work in Primary Care.

Workshops and our range of study days run throughout the year at Crow Trees, or at a venue in London. Subject to minimum numbers, we can deliver any of our courses or study days in your area at no extra cost.

For more information about our courses, please contact us or visit our website.

As the UK population grows older, more and more people are using a combination of drugs to treat multiple conditions. This can lead to interactions and side effects that we all need to be aware of. Not only can drugs interact with each other, they can also interact with food and drink, as well as popular herbal remedies. #statins

Hypertension is a key risk factor for cardiovascular disease, and in many developed countries, including the UK, the likelihood of developing increases with age. More than a quarter of adults in England have high blood pressure, with recent figures showing the proportion rises to 58% among those aged 65-74. #hypertension #cardiovasculardisease

Wearable glucose monitors will be made available to tens of thousands more people with type 1 diabetes from April 2019, NHS England has announced. Its decision comes after an investigation found patients in some areas of the country were being denied access to the device. It reduces the need for finger-prick blood tests and helps people with diabetes to manage their condition. #diabetes

The symptoms for a stroke depend on the person and the type of stroke, though the NHS uses the F.A.S.T acronym.

In 2017, there were over 420,000 diagnoses of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in England and chlamydia accounted for nearly half of them, with 200,000 diagnoses. There were also more than 44,000 diagnoses of gonorrhoea. #sexualhealth

One in four patients would be more active if advised by a doctor or nurse, according to PHE yet medical professionals are reluctant to broach the topic “due to either lack of knowledge, skills or confidence”. Do you advise your patients about exercise? Tell us in the comments, especially if you have any useful advice on how best to go about it!

UK high streets have the highest concentration of fast food outlets in almost a decade, figures show. Despite town halls attempting to limit their spread, in most areas the number of takeaways per 100,000 people was at its highest since 2010. Research suggests people most exposed to them are nearly twice as likely to be #obese.

This year for the first time, the PCTC will have a stand at the Diabetes Professional Care Show in London. Will you be going? It's free for medical professionals, so why not book a place and come to see us!

We received some fantastic news by email this week. It seems that the PCTC has been awarded the prestigious Healthcare Professional Training Organisation Of The Year - Ecuador. We are very proud of this achievement, and will be celebrating with Prosecco this lunchtime.

Beautiful building, great place for training. Lovely lunch. Although it's distance learning, I felt I gained far more from attending the study days than from the reading material. Excellent trainers, obviously enjoy their jobs!!

Always dread the drive there. But once there it's like home from home. Really enthusiastic trainers who deliver only appropriate information in a lovely environment.
