Awesome timelapse around the park ;-)

We are having some issues with the footpath near the beach area here at Pugneys. Unfortunately, it’s getting rather muddy due to the wet weather we are experiencing as well as it being close to a contractors site entrance. We are aware of the situation and working with the contractor to try and remedy the issue. Thank you for your patience.

Welcome to the Boat House new and improved café facilities, open now.

Offering healthy and fresh food options, the Boat House provides a variety of hot and cold food options, children’s options, sweet treats and hot and cold drinks. Daily specials are available and food and drinks are also available to take away.
... Cllr Les Shaw, Wakefield Council’s Cabinet Member for Corporate Services, said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming new and improved facilities to Pugneys. It’s a fantastic location, right by the lake, and people can also sit outside and take food out if they wish. The extensive menu has lots of new and healthy options to enjoy, alongside different daily specials.”
Wakefield Council will now run the café facilities to make improvements to the offer available. The premises have been given a fresh, bright new look with redecoration throughout and new tables and chairs.

Fab place for dingy hire. Nice that you can just turn up and go sailing, providing you know what you are doing.

The staff took some time to assess our skills before letting us loose. This is a good thing. It did take a while and involved some back and forth.

We also got to sail in a Quba rather than the lasers we normally hire.

From having a chat, it seems the staff are all new for 2017. They are currently closed for a staff shortage but I hope they will reopen soon.

Brilliant day out. Lovely staff in the reception area were really helpful and friendly. All the info on the website was accurate. Bring a pound coin for a locker. On and around the water staff were professional prioritising water safety. The weather was perfect and the play area is great for the smaller ones. We'll be back. Highly recommended.

Walk fabulous. Woman serving in cafe miserable and surly. Said stopped serving food at 2:30pm even though advertised until 4pm especially on Bank Holiday Monday when hundreds of people were visiting!

User

The park was lovely to walk around, had a great afternoon for the blown away event. Unfortunately the waitress in the cafe needs some customer service training, face was like thunder a couple with grandchild sat next to us asked the young lady politely for a drink of water and sauce she turned tutted and huffed, how rude, it does not cost anything to smile and have manners. We had planned to get some food when the event finished but decided to go somewhere that know how to treat their customers, with a smile polite & can't do enough for you despite being busy. I suggest the young waitress go to Toby carvery for some pointers.

User

Please change the parking tarif to £1 up to 2 hours please as yesterday after my walk round with 2 dogs then to shower them off usually takes 1 hour 20 ... I do not want a fine but I also don't want to pay 2.50 for up to 4 hours when I can park over in industrial estate for free ...

User

It's a great place to have quality family time but please re-think the dog lead policy. We have a dog and we have it on it's lead, we pick up it's mess and dispose of it correctly but there are a lot of dog owners that think it's ok not to have theirs on its lead and intimidate other dogs or families and it made us feel very un easy with children around.

Other than that the beautiful views from the castle, the tranquility of the water and it's brilliant that you let people have BBQ's.

User

Had a fantastic time at the Blown Away event. All of the "purple people" were very friendly and informative. We used the cafe which is why this is only a four star review. Clearly under pressure and boy did they let it show!!!!

User

Could do with displaying the prices of the water activities. Had to queue, for what seemed like an eternity, just to ask. (The person serving was quite stressed so didn't dare interrupt!!) oh, and the staff manning the boats didn't even know the prices .... putting a sign up is a simple and obvious thing to do!!!!

The cafe is rubbish. Really expensive and poorly stocked. Don't even sell crisps to have with our sandwiches 👎🏼

Really lovely place though, and enjoyed our time on the pedalo!!

User

You have a fabulous path around the lake, suitable for everyone. Great for push chairs and wheelchairs and we dog walkers are well provided with plenty of bins ! But why don't you have an area inside your cafe where we dog walkers can enjoy a hot drink or food like everyone else ? It's ok when the weather is warm and fine and we can sit outside. You lost at least 2 customers today and we bought our lunch somewhere else !

User

Terrible attitude of cafe assistant, every thing too much trouble including clearing the outside tables of dirty pots, food remnants and waste packaging from previous customers so they could be used again. We were advised of where the bins were located which were near the lake, quite a distance from the seating area and huge wheelie bin types which necessitated lifting dirty lids before eating. I explained it wasn't our waste, he replied it wasn't his either!! I politely reminded him it was part of his job role, to which he walked off back to the cafe empty handed, leaving the said debris. Meanwhile in the cafe, the poor girl was rushed off her feet whilst he seemed to be doing very little. We visit here often, including with local cycling forum, lovely place otherwise. The attitude of the said individual was totally inappropriate and uncalled for.

User

Not a place to go if you're a single person with dogs and want refreshment from the cafe.

Nice place to walk round with my two dogs this morning. Disappointed by the fact there is no facility for dog walkers to order anything from the cafe.

I walked in there as I saw no signs for no dogs allowed, the cafe staff were very helpful but someone from reception just shouted over at me 'no dogs allowed'. So when I apologised as I hadn't seen any signs and asked how can I order a drink the person just walked off into the back.

The lady in the cafe said 'well you're here now, another minute won't hurt' she took my order of a cuppa quickly, I paid on contactless and she brought it outside to me.

She then told me that there was a sign on the door, but because it was open, you can't see it!!

User

None of the ticket machines were working...trailed to reception who seemed totally disinterested...it wouldnt have taken 2 minutes to put a sign on the machine! They then charged us again to park..despite explaining the machine took half our money and no ticket! Yes...there was a number to call on the machine....automated answer of course...but we had gone to walk..no debit cards with us just a bit of cash! By the time we walked back to the car...theres a long queue of people still trying to get tickets !! Poor!!

User

I was so disappointed today after taking my 5&3yr old granddaughters here, the place is full of dog poo!!on the path and so much on the grass you couldn't tip toe through it let alone let the girls run! It's a disgrace! There was a wmdc worker sat in one of those little electric sweeper trucks but not actually sweeping anything up. I was almost sick rushing to get out of the place, appalling

User

checked your website and FB page, no mention of not being able to use my kayak on the lake, as its still a "watersports centre" and no watersports due to the council cut backs, see that Wakefield council need to have one place people can go in the area that can be used for watersports

User

Visited here Sunday dinner time, had the sandwich platter and carrot soup which sounded appealing at the time, when it arrived the kindest way to describe the look and taste is purèd baby food!! It looked and tasted foul! Won’t be having the soup again and wouldn’t recommend it!

User

Think it’s beyond a joke that you are allowing a gun range to open at the side of the park with its entrance been side of the car park on range along side ........this is a family area that children and families go with there pets ..the safety of children are been put a risk ...will be informing everyone to avoid the dangerous place now as you clearly are not concerned for the welfare of your visitors !!!

User

Just thought I would make my rant public after emailing Pugneys and not seriously expecting a reply.

I write with great disappointment regarding the recent ban on the use of inflatable craft at the water sports centre at Pugneys.

I went with my family, 3 generations, to enjoy our first outing on the water this year on Sat 27th May. On registration to pay for a private launch our request was declined being told that inflatable craft, in this case 3 person inflatable kayak, are banned from the park.

I find this most annoying as my interest in these craft was initiated at Pugneys.

During a visit last year with my family a local water sports retailer was demonstrating canoes kayaks and paddle boards. This was in conjunction with Pugneys where registration and payment for a launch allowed one to try out any of the craft - a great idea. Several of these craft were inflatable kayaks and inflatable paddle boards.

Having always been interested in watersports but not having the facility to store and transport rigid canoes or kayaks, this was an ideal solution.

I purchased 2 inflatable kayaks last year and enjoyed several very pleasant days kayaking with family and friends at Pugneys. I might add in perfect safety the inflatables in the correct hands looking much safer than rigids in the wrong hands.

The inflatables are all multi-compartment and therefore unlikely to sink due to catastrophic failure of all compartments at the same time, giving them inherent safety.

The safety boat used at Pugneys is in fact an inflatable and therefore presumably should not be used on the water!

Taking all these factors into account I am at a loss to understand the rationale behind this latest rule.

I am, I think justifiably, annoyed at this latest rule which means I have wasted a considerable amount of money on craft and safety equipment which I now cannot use, not to mention my 8 year old grandaughter's disappointment at no more watersport.

Perhaps you can inform me who has made this decision and upon what specific criteria it has been made.

User

Asked via message if I'm allowed to put my kayak on the lake ( it is watersport) no answer , I travelled here to be told NO your not allowed I could have gone elsewhere on my bank holiday ......bank holiday ruined
