Went for afternoon tea and it was amazing. The staff very friendly, food great presented really well we ended up bringing some home as we couldn’t eat it all will definitely be going back for more.

We married in the Durham suite on 26th May and what an incredible day and venue! Emma was our wedding co-ordinator and she was amazing, nothing was too much trouble and she ensured our day ran smoothly. All the staff at South causey are friendly and welcoming and do such a wonderful job at ensuring all the guests are well looked after.

The venue was absolutely breathtaking and all our guests complimented the South Causey for that and the food! Our hot buffet wedding breakfast was 'the best' wedding food alot of our guests had experienced and the only issue was we couldn't eat enough of it!

We had a perfect day and we would recommend South Causey in a heartbeat!

Thank you Emma and all of the staff involved in making our day as perfect as it was.

We got married here on 9th June 2018 in the old barn. We had the most amazing day, Jamie was our wedding coordinator and couldn't have done enough for us to ensure the day went perfect. Our day could not have gone any more perfect and everyone commented on how it was the best day! Thank you xxx

We attended a wedding in the barn yesterday 02/06/2018 we hadn't heard of this place before this and can I just say if your looking for a venue that has plenty of room and privacy this place has it all its lovely well presented both inside and out. The food was lovely and the staff were great as well. Having left the the car overnight we decided to go for Sunday lunch today 03/06, I honestly didn't think We would get in looking at all the cars and people heading in but this place is huge. Again food was lovely and staff great. Highly recommend would love to stay in one of the rooms as they look great. We will be back at some stage. Thanks for hospitality.

They were very very busy with the addition of a wedding aswell. Sunday roast was delicious. warm welcome on arrival and when we left as well. Stayed last night as a surprise for my mams 60th birthday, we booked the pamper package and stayed in captain cooks cabin and couldn’t fault anything! The whole venue is just beautiful, our afternoon tea was incredible, the cabin and hot tub were great, breakfast was lovely and staff were great, can’t wait to go back

Stayed here recently for a friend's 50th in the bunker was well worth it afternoon tea was spot on service was great staff very attentive. Spa treatments were really good lovely bunch of ladies doing them. Hot tub was amazing. Air con was on throughout whole house. Bedrooms were very comfortable. Outside area which we more or less had to ourselves was great very private. Highly recommend.

My daughter Kayleigh and now son-in-law Kieron were married on 21st May 2018 in the Old Barn. The bridal party stayed the night before the wedding in the Causey Cottage and it was amazing. Thank you for such a stunning breathtaking venue. It was a perfect day from beginning to end. All staff members from checking in were outstanding but especially the wedding coordinator Emma, she was fantastic and made sure everything was perfect. The food was 5* quality and we will definitely be returning.

Loved the venue, family and friends were there for afternoon tea to celebrate my sister in law's 70th birthday. The food was very nice but far too much for one person. It would make much more sense to reduce the price and quantity. It was very off putting to see so much food set out in front of you in one go. Some was taken home in boxes but also a lot of waste!!!!

Just came back from an amazing night staying in the new pamper suite rooms - have to say we had a FANTASTIC night; rooms were amazing as was the food from the afternoon tea/morning breakfast and the treatments were top notch; just what I needed. My only critic is that there are no windows; so by the time morning came I was ready to leave as started to feel a little claustrophobic....we had use of the outdoor courtyard area which we certainly made use of in the glorious sunshine but would have been nice if there was a door/window just off from our hot tub (bunkhouse room) that you could open and feel like you were outside more (although if its raining I really wouldn't have been bothered). Other than that AMAZING.....and such a bargain. Looking forward to booking again. Highly recommend

I have stayed and ate here many times. In 2016 I was proposed to here and on Monday gone, 2018, I had a wedding in the Durham Suite. It was amazing and went above all expectations. The staff are amazing - friendly and very helpful. Nothing was an issue.

Everyone at the wedding commented how lovely the food was and we all had a great night. The wedding coordinator and DJ made sure everything ran smoothly.

Graeme and I got married in the Old Barn on 16th June and it was everything we'd hoped for. The venue is stunning and was perfect for us. All our guests complimented the venue, food and staff too. We loved the feel of it and the ease of everything. The food was delicious and there's plenty of it, the decoration was fabulous and everything you could wish for was there. And finally we must say a huge thank you to Jamie - you are a credit to South Causey, so calm and friendly and you ensured our day ran like clockwork.

Excellent! Comfy room, great breakfast, friendly and welcoming staff, gorgeous gin distilled on-site, cool decor, only 30mins walk into Stanley and very close to Beamish Museum.

Blue Bell pub next door does a nice meal too if you fancy eating elsewhere, but the food here is great too. Can't fault it �

My husband and I attended the south causey restaurant on Saturday night to celebrate our anniversary as it is our favourite place to eat and relax and we just live up the road. When we arrived we went to the bar and ordered drinks. On our way back to our table, the bottom of my glass smashed off which resulted in vodka and coke all over the floor and up my legs. There was also shards of glass on the floor and the other half of the glass was still in my hand.

This happened due to the glass being taken out of the dishwasher and filled with cold liquid too quickly.

The girl who witnessed the incident apologised and was quick to get the mess cleaned up however I had to ask someone for a paper towel to dry my legs off. The staff kept looking over and discussing it but no one approached me to take any details of the incident which could have been far more serious saying I was wearing sandals. I was brought out a replacement drink.



We then went into the restaurant for our meal and ordered the steak. My husband ordered blue and myself medium rare. When the waiter came to the table he asked us which meal was for who and I told him but he still mixed the plates up so we had to switch them.



We ordered a vodka and coke each while sat at our table and when they were brought over the vodka was missing from both glasses. We notified the main waiter who informed us the glasses did have vodka in but this was not the case. He brought the vodka bottle over to the table and poured the vodka into the glasses. This resulted in the drink being very strong towards the top and weak the further down the glass you got.



Not the best service but left a £10 tip on a £60 meal none the less.



I have sent a private message to the South Causey yesterday over Facebook as I don’t like writing reviews for everyone to see. I have again emailed them early this morning and have had no response at all to my complaint.

Visited for the 3rd time this week to be absolutely disgusted with the owners attitude towards her staff. Screeming and swearing in front of customers is not acceptable behaviour and shows a total lack of respect for both her staff and customers. If that’s how she talks to her staff in front of customers, goodness knows what she says when customers aren’t present. Disgusted.

Screeming and swearing in front of customers is not acceptable behaviour and shows a total lack of respect for both her staff and customers. If that’s how she talks to her staff in front of customers, goodness knows what she says when customers aren’t present. Disgusted.
