A huge thank you to Highways England who took on our Apprentice-themed 'You're Hired' Challenge! Not only did they raise £200 for the Hospice, they also placed 18 new collection boxes across Leeds city centre - we can't wait to see how much they raise!

User

Charlotte recently organised a coffee morning at a Leeds retirement home and raised a fantastic £201.17 for St Gemma's. Thank you to Charlotte and all the residents who supported the day; it looks like there were lots of delicious cakes and fun had by all!

"Mum, she was a hyper caring person. She would come here often with us as children, to Roundhay Park. We'd have fun, just like everybody else, like today really. It's just a really good memory for me. Things progressed, she got worse and then she came to St Gemma's and she really looked forward to it. It gave her a focus and something to do, she was always a do-er.
I guess all mums are like super women. Even down to the funeral, she arranged that; we were left just to grieve...." Reggie, Son of Josie, Hospice Patient #40Faces

Thank you to DLA Piper who raised an incredible £1051 for the Hospice by tackling the infamous Tough Mudder. What an amazing achievement! This is enough to fund an hour of absolutely all of our services - from doctors and nurses, to catering and maintenance and everything in between! #fundraiseatwork

User

Thank you to Tony and the Cookridge Hall Golf Club Seniors who supported us in Tony's captaincy year, raising a fantastic £640 for the Hospice. That's enough to pay for 2 patients to visit St Gemma’s Day Services where they can receive support to manage their symptoms, gain more confidence at home, and maximise their quality of life.

"When my Grandad passed away I was quite upset and I was thinking for a long time about doing something. I thought something like a coffee morning would raise a lot of money. It was quite exciting being able to organise a big thing and to see how much I'd raised in the end. I planned what everyone was going to do and I was making sure that everything was going well.
I was proud, I thought I had only raised around 60 pounds which is still good, but 400 odd pound is really good.... It was really in memory of my Grandad, I wanted to do something for him." Jake, Coffee Morning Organiser #40Faces

Our 'Open Gardens' have now all opened for 2018! Thank you so much to all our amazing supporters who opened their garden to the public in aid of St Gemma's, as well as to everyone who attended, supported and donated. Together you have raised £9006 towards patient care - that's enough to pay for a whopping 36 home visits by a St Gemma’s community team member supporting patients in their own homes.

We recently welcomed Dr Ian Clarke to the Hospice who worked at St Gemma’s when we first opened, in 1978, until 1981. This was the first time he’s been to the Hospice in 35 years, so a lot has changed!
Dr Ian Clarke, pictured here with our Chief Executive, Kerry Jackson and Chief Medical Officer, Dr Mike Stockton, said “Working at St Gemma’s was a transformative experience. I congratulate everyone on its continuing success and influence of the greater palliative care community”.

My wife spent many hours in the outpatients, mainly in the Art room. All the staff were great and even treated me with so much kindness.

My uncle John Adamczyk sadly passed away last week after a long battle with cancer. John spent over 5 weeks in your amazing care. It was lovely to catch up with Karen (sorry don’t know surname) who use to work with my mum many years ago.

It wasn’t until a couple of days ago that I heard that Karen was there holding Johns hand when he passed. That gave me and his wife Mavis and all the family amazing comfort.

Thank you, you fantastic people. Please keep doing what you are doing xxx

I absolutely cannot thank you enough for making the final memories I have of my Mum, Linda King so special. From the moment we came through the doors onto Moors Ward only two short weeks ago today, we felt at home. And I know my Mum felt it too, unfortunately we lost our lovely little Mum two weeks ago tomorrow, I still haven’t wrapped my head around any of it yet, but it definitely definitely helps to know that she was so well cared for in her final hours. And I’m forever grateful to the night staff who recognised the signs and gave us time to get family in in time to be with her. Nothing I ever say will be enough to thank you guys, You are real life angels. Thank you from the very bottom of my broken heart for all that you did to keep my Mum comfortable.

Cared for my Husband for the last 10 days of his life. The whole family spent the last week with him and the staff were wonderful, bringing us beds, chairs pillows so we could spend every last moment with him. It was like being in a giant bubble. Can never thank them enough for the love and care they showed us all.
