These people are amazing, I eventually contacted them on 23rd January after numerous failed attempts as I was so ashamed of my financial problems. I spoke to Nicola, I was in tears but she calmed me down and didn't make me feel embarrassed about the situation I had got myself into and a couple of weeks later my debt management plan was up and running! I am so grateful, I feel that if I hadn't contacted them I would not be alive to write this now as I was so depressed, I thought of taking my own life. Please if you have any worries, do contact these lovely people, I am so glad I did and no amount of praise can repay my thanks to them

These guys are the best. Myself and partner had more income going out then in. My partner found out by these that he was just over 2 grand in debt with different companies. Lowell give us there number yesterday and spoke to the lovely people who knew my partner and I were stressed. They helped us so much we took the debt mamangemt plan on and said we don't have to do anything and our debits be will payed off within 2 years. We're going to recive a pack in the next couple off days. But honestly say we can't thank these guys enough. If only we heard of these people before hand. Thanks again guys xxx

Fantastic help and advice. I sought help yesterday and received information and solution the next day. I'm now waiting for an application pack for my solution and I feel a lot less stressed and positive about making a change to my credit rating and financial situation. I love the fact that they also help you budget your expenses as well and give you a clear picture on how to improve your situation. The adviser I spoke to was very friendly, kind and understanding and provided a lot of information to help me. They also took into account the emotional stressors behind debt problems and they gave me some sound advice regarding that. I now feel that such a heavy problem I had before, is not actually that bad once you put it into perspective. Thank you!

Due to a separation. I was left struggling with crippling debts. The stress was affecting my mental health. I had contacted citizens advice although helpful things were not going quickly enough and I was spiralling down wards till one of my creditors asked me to contact Step Change.It was the best thing I ever done. They sorted me out and although it did take some time to start I no longer had the worry of debt letters and calls plaguing me constantly. The DPP they put me on in Scotland has reduced the stress and left me with enough money to still have some sort of life without worrying. I want to thank all the team at Step Change for their support, concern and advice because without your support I might not have made it through this crippling time. Things are on the up and might be able to clear it all due to the finalisation of my separation. I thank you for all your support and would recommend you to anyone struggling with financial difficulties.Just wish I had used you sooner saved myself a lot of stress and heartache.

As someone who used to work for the charity as a software developer, perhaps I can put some people's minds at rest about contacting them. The first point I would make is that they are on your side - they will only recommend what is in your own interest, and they can be trusted.



Their advisors know what is like to be suffering from problem debt, and you can expect them to be kind, non-judgemental and supportive. They are not funded by charging you any fees - their advice is free, and they don't allow the fact that some solutions might be more advantageous to the charity to influence what they recommend to you. I should know - I've read and written the code...



My advice to anyone with problem debt is to call them. It will be a positive experience, and you'll be glad you did.

After 6 long years it is finally over. I can’t begin to express how grateful I am to Step Change. I would not have been able to get through it without all your help and support. Would highly recommend this company. Thank you again.

Absolutely amazing service I couldn't be happier that the fact I'm getting the help I've been crying out for now this company has over my debts I can now lead a happy life knowing my debts are been taken care of

Unfortunately I am not finding stepchange very helpful. I am on the other side, a tenant who owes me £2,000, but has cost me an overall loss of over £3500 and resulted in me having to sell my old home. I feel like every time I speak to stepchange I am the person that owes the money, not the one that has gone through a horrific time losing the money. He has defaulted on his payments to me via stepchange and I have no protection on this whatsoever. It’s all about protecting the other person. He won’t give me his address and this in itself causes problems. He set me up on the re payment plans and then they won’t discuss anything with me. I think it is being sorted, but I just don’t understand how a charity works likes this. Unbelievably stressful situation !

I just filled in their online form. Having entered all my incomings, outgoings and assorted debts their very helpful suggestions were: That for a household the size of mine they recommend that I should spend £260-£400 on food and cleaning rather than my current £150, that I start to pay for home contents insurance, and that I allow some money for going to the hairdresser's which I haven't done for 18 months! I award 2 stars for the laugh.

Fighting a loosing battle with step change at the moment. Constant emails back and fourth trying to just start an application for a TPP. After about 2 months they still "haven't got all the info they need". Slowing the application process down just for the full name of a company instead of their abbreviated name.

Loosing interest in their "help" now.....
