Been an excellent day all round for The R&A Open Regional Qualifier, with even a sudden death play off to end the day. Hope everyone enjoyed their visit and please visit again soon!
What a fantastic golf course, yes it is on the pricey side but well worth it. Every hole has something about it, back 9 is a beast of a run of holes. Some gorgeous holes and a killer of an 18th, one of the longest and most dangerous par 4's I've ever played.
Staff in the shop were really welcoming making it such a friendly experience, I've been to other similar type clubs where the welcome is stuffy and you can see they would rather not have visitors, not the case at Alwoodley.
The members we spoke to were also really friendly and you could tell that they were not only proud of the course but proud to welcome and showcase it to visitors, something that I've not found very often from members at others clubs. I'll definately be returning. I would recommend this course to anyone who loves their golf. A true test and a course I would rate better than Woodall.
This is a class track with no holes the same, great pro shop, bar and restaurant. If you love golf you have to find time to play this track, if you have a bucket list got to be on it
It was an absolute pleasure to play at Alwoodley GC. The moment you arrive at the club you realise it is a special place. You walk around to the 1st tee, see the pristine tee box with the unique club house in the background and smile. The course is a joy to play. It is classic Mackenzie and all the better for it. Each hole is unique, each brings a smile to a golfers face. It is a challenging course needing straight tee shots and a fine short game. You can never rest easy on this course but that is a compliment, every shot makes you think. After the round my son and I started to discuss the course and we concluded there was not a weak hole on the course, not one that would even bring a 'meh'. It is not often you can say that.
I'd like to highlight individual holes for special mention but we gave up after a while trying to identify them, there are just too many. I've no idea how you could define a signature hole here. We finished off with drink and a snack on the terrace behind the 1st tee and over looking the 18th green. A perfect setting, great design.
If you have not played Alwoodley before then it is a must visit course. We will be back.
Considering the rain that hammered down for 2 days before we played it was stunning and staff were super friendly - the sun came out on our round and showed off it’s true Majesty !
