Had a lovely family meal this evening for my Dads birthday fantastic staff beautiful food with a great atmosphere the staff are a credit to the management so polite helpful and always a welcome smile. Fantastic night thank you for your hospitality. I'll be back soon

User

Great place great staff shame about the below review I did see this individual in the bar and think he had a bit too much to drink.

User

First time visiting, we went for Sunday lunch the food was wonderful and the staff excellent we were well looked after. I will b e going back for an evening meal.

User

Been here a few times when my partner and I come to Leeds to visit his family. Never had a bad meal. Came for the festive menu today as a belated Christmas due to my having to work on Christmas day and it was absolutely amazing. Team were fantastic and the lady who served us was very attentive. We will definitely be back next time we come back

User

Absolutely beautiful place, great staff and lovely desert only thing that would have made it 5 star was if they had a vegan main but the coconut sorbet was insane x

User

The lamb had too much fat on it so it was a trial to eat it, the drinks were too expensive, the ambience was good, the service was good, the company was good. That's more plus than minus...so yeah, try it.

Booked to stay with my partner for one night and found it was a lovely place to stay. The bedroom was great very clean and fresh and comfortable. Just some feedback I'm sure you would appreciate. 1, on arrival very confusing as to how to get to the booking in area as it does not say to go through the bar. Once in again confusing as to where reception was. We along with two other separate guests went straight past the fire place heading to the rooms as the sign says. You need a bigger sign to let people know where to book in. 2. We wanted to eat in the restaurant and came down after drinking in the bar for a few hours at around 7.30 to be told there were no tables available for the rest of the night but we could eat in the bar area. We had no other option but to do this. The only table available was a small one in the midst of a lot of people who were all enjoying themselves and being quite vocal and expletive. Which in any other situation would be OK. But for us trying to enjoy our meal (which was great and the service excellent). Not as comfortable as we would have liked. I suggest guests be asked if they would like to eat in the restaurant to book as I could see it was very popular. We didn't think this would be a problem especially as we were guests at the Inn. Like I say we were generally happy and would definitely book again if we are heading in that area coming from the North East.

User

Been this evening for a meal. We were served by the lovely Amber twice. She was very pleasant and professional. We had a lovely roast meal the only thing I could critise was the sirloin roast only came with one slice of beef. My daughter had the roast pork and she got lots more meat. Otherwise a pleasant experience.

User

Above average quality food served by a very friendly waitress who despite not writing any of our order down managed to get it perfectly right. My first time dining here but I would definitely return. Recommended

User

+ Cosy place with open fire, friendly staff. Good food although a little inconsistent. Great sat by the windows as it can be a little dismal inside, could be romantic though if that is what you want!

- The table next to us arrived a good 10 minutes after we did and ordered drinks after we did so how come theirs arrived before ours? Not good service.

The broccoli had only been shown the water as it was practically raw which is ok if you like raw veg but unfortunately we don’t.

User

Went last night. Was really disappointed with the steak and mushroom pie. I've never had steak as tough as this - I struggled to get my fork into it. The rest of the pie was lovely. I mentioned it to the waitress as I had pulled all the steak out and left it on the plate - unfortunately she had zero interest!!! Shame as we had a meal here before Christmas and that was fine.

User

Good points - dog friendly, good location/grounds, plenty of space, Good selection of drinks, clean,

Bad points - service is not Great (waited 45 mins before our plates were taken and main came out. I had to ask for our mains then to be told they are ready when they are ready), no check back, Pizza was half crispy half soggy, burger was VERY dry and tasteless. I've had better burgers at football stadiums.

Great for drinks... not good for food.

User

Very disappointed, after waiting over 30 minutes for someone take our order we had to ask the waitress to do so in the end, the starters finally arrived after another considerable wait, prawn and lobster, 6 very small prawns and I think the lobster is still in the sea, main courses finally arrived, they were disgusting, the pies were dry ,the lamb was fatty, and all the meals were cold, l did send mine back and asked for it to be warmed up, I would not recommend this establishment , it was expensive for what we had ,and not good value, we asked to see the manager who before we could say anything, offered us a small discount on our bill. We were a party of 6 ,and I know that none of us will be returning.

User

Beautiful old building and lovely garden. However that's where the positives end. Ordered drinks (three in total) and the girl behind the bar got them wrong twice before actually settling on what we ordered, only to get to the table to taste it and find out it was wrong. Second round of drinks ordered and young guy this time also got one wrong. Ordered food and all three of us had the same. Pie and mash x2 and one had pie and chips. Veg and mash was cold on both and was sent back. Was then nuked in the microwave and was stupidly hot. All three pies had the hardest puff pastry I've ever encountered. The filling was quite tasteless and the three of us left two thirds of the food.

Really not a good experience.

I am not ageist but a lot of the staff looked barely old enough to serve alcohol and it showed with the service levels.

User

The food was atrocious. We ordered the Beef sharing platter. When it turned up I was presented with what looked like dried pork. I asked the waitress why I had pork and she advised it was beef. In my 36 years I have never seen white beef. It was the most anaemic, dry piece of meat I have ever had the misfortune of seeing. The waitress then proceeded to argue with me and told me it was supposed to be like that. Another waitress then came over and said it just needed gravy, like this is a magical elixir that would recover this poor piece of meat.

The manager then approached and tried to say the meat was fine. After tooing and throwing he agreed it was a little dry (if it got any drier it would of been ash) he then retreated to the kitchen and brought out 3 pieces of beef from the same joint. Why on earth would you try to resolve a problem with the same problem! His attitude was vile. He continued to ARGUE and when I wouldn't accept the other dry meat he stormed off. No apology, no offer of resolution! I was paying for a 3 course meal for 6 people and had spent a considerable amount of money throughout the day. The service was shocking. I live down the road and this was what we classed as our local. NEVER AGAIN will I come here. This saddens me as I stayed over night in the rooms above the night before my wedding and have very fond memories of getting ready there. I will be escalating this further

User

Really terrible all round tonight. From being completely ignored on arrival for our pre-booked meal despite 4 staff stood near to the poor standard of the food. This is the third Christmas Eve meal we've had here and I wish I'd thought better of booking as it's declined each year since the original which was great. My turkey main arrived with black burnt carrots and parsnips. This was sent back and returned with more burnt carrots and a potato so burnt that I'd have needed a chainsaw to cut it. I showed the waitress but it was too late to return as my partner had long finished his meal. No stuffing as detailed on the menu, overall really poor. Won't be back.

User

First time eating at Calvery arms, 4 of us with a Sunday menu to be told by the waiter there was no Calvery!!! Hearing other people on the tables next to us didn't understand that either. So when we orderd from the small selection that was left on the menu the food was slightly below average:

The prawn cocktails was just a spoon full of dry prawns ( no sauce ) shocking side salad

The onion rings had a sprinkle of batter on

The fish from the fish and chips was tasteless

Waiter was rude and miserable, lack of staff everywhere else.

Staff behind discussing another tables discount ( someone else who wasn't happy)

Table next to us sending food back because it was cold!

Over all bad experience, over priced and what to me looked like lazy food, shoved on a plait and sent out.

Will defo be going else where when I want a Calvery 🖓🤢

I suggest guests be asked if they would like to eat in the restaurant to book as I could see it was very popular. We didn't think this would be a problem especially as we were guests at the Inn. Like I say we were generally happy and would definitely book again if we are heading in that area coming from the North East.

Above average quality food served by a very friendly waitress who despite not writing any of our order down managed to get it perfectly right. My first time dining here but I would definitely return. Recommended
