We all know you feel partied out after the festive period, but what better way to gear back up for the New Year than to jump into a long and leisurely evening of Heavy Petting DJ sets, playing smooth jams to sooth your gin-soaked brains with Funk / Soul / Motown and all the rest to get you back on your feet.
If Studio 54 played Salsoul and Rock N Roll b-sides, and served wicked beer... we hope it'd look something like this:
Downstairs ~ALL NIGHT LONG~ with extended DJ set fro...m Ivan Rock (and special guests) expect to hear...
•Talking Heads• •Stevie Wonder• •David Bowie• •Martha Reeves• •Bob Marley• •Grace Jones• •Roxy Music• •The Meters• •Michael Jackson• •Prince• •The Supremes• •Chic• •Roy Ayers• •Bill Withers•
plus Funk/Rock/New Wave curveballs... and much much more!
----------------------------------------- ------------------------------------
NO RUNNING NO DIVEBOMBING BEWARE OF THE DEEP END
STRICTLY NO HEAVY PETTING

Free Entry 17:00 - Late

Storytelling is something of a Texas tradition. Tall hats and even taller tales are woven into the fabric of The Lone Star State, and singer-songwriter, Jarrod Dickenson can spin a yarn with the best of them.
Hailing from Waco, now based in Nashville via Brooklyn, Dickenson spends most of his time on the road bringing his own particular brand of soulful Americana to a wide variety of music loving audiences around the globe.
Jarrod's critically acclaimed album 'The Lonesome Tr...aveler' and his subsequent EP 'Songs From Willow St' paved the way for him to tour the UK, Ireland and Europe extensively over the last several years. Breakout performances at Glastonbury, Black Deer Fest and Larmer Tree Festival, along with recent tours supporting legendary artists such as Bonnie Raitt, Don McLean and The Waterboys have earned Jarrod a formidable and loyal fan base across the globe, including BBC radio hosts Dermot O'Leary, Cerys Matthews, Huey Morgan, Janice Long, Robert Elms and Alex Lester.
Jarrod’s next album, ‘Ready The Horses’, which received a major label release in the UK was another step forward for the artist. Where ‘The Lonesome Traveler’ was rich with folksy storytelling and largely acoustic instrumentation, ‘Ready The Horses’ dives head-first into the whiskey-soaked worlds of soul and junkyard blues. It’s louder, electrified and at times, even menacing. ‘Ready The Horses’ has a sense of urgency and potency that grips the listener from the get-go, straps them in and takes them on a journey.
New album, 'Ready The Horses' out now in UK on Decca Records. Worldwide release slated for 2019.
"His songs carry an independent spirit and grit... a hard-bitten, yet romantic eye that seems bred into Lone Star Songwriters" -Q Magazine
"A smokey-toned Texan with a smooth line in Americana-Soul... already a big favourite at Radio 2" -Uncut Magazine
"A slice of pure, unadulterated white boy soul... watch out for this guy" -Acoustic Magazine
"Painting extraordinarily cinematic pictures with his words..." -Rocking Magpie
"A smokey, filthy, Waitsy, Cohen-Inflected piece of subterranean melodrama...and I like it." -Shaun Keaveny, BBC Radio 6 Music
"In the tradition of old southern Americana, but with a feel of something current; storytelling with soul." -Chris Hawkins, BBC Radio 6 Music
"If you can catch him, you should...he reminds me of this cat, Gram Parsons" -Huey Morgan, BBC Radio 2
“A voice like a young Tom Waits...Jarrod Dickenson's songs are simply breathtaking, possessing melodies many of his peers would give their left arm for.” - No Depression
"An incredible talent" -Janice Long, BBC Radio 2
"Dickenson has a superb, expressive voice..." -Country Music People (5 Star Review)
"Brilliant songs" -Cerys Matthews, BBC Radio 6 Music

After finishing a degree in sculpture at MMU, Gideon decided to become a builder, but nipped that in the bud after 8 months because it was very hard work. That was the point when he decided to be a full time artist and musician. He became a feature on the Manchester indie folk scene and was known for doing drawings at gigs and giving them to bands as a souvenirs.
Known for effortlessly blending acoustic folk and hip hop, Gideon has a unique performance style which make audien...ces very happy.
Dec ’07 was the release date of Gideon’s first single ‘I want you around’ a 10″ vinyl released on Get Cape Wear Cape Fly’s label Mannequin Records. It was Xfm playlisted, and breakfast single of the week on Shaun Keaveney’s 6 music show. This was followed by a BBC Maida Vale session with Huw Stephens.
UK Support tours with Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip and Jason Mraz followed in ’08 along with appearances at Glastonbury, Bestival, Latitude and several other festivals. ‘Trademark’ featured on Rob Da Bank’s Bestival A-Z compilation.
’09 – runner up in red stripe music competition (Ben Howard won), UK tour with folk pop group 6 Day Riot, also documentary ‘Hitting Home -Good Luck Gideon’ aired on Manchester’s Channel M. Acoustic single ‘Londonderry’ released on newly formed independent label ‘New Bop Sounds’ which became the title of Gideon’s debut full album released Sept ’10.
The second album ‘Take It all’ (released June 2012 on Tantrum Records), shows Gideon at the height of his song crafting powers. The record opens with lead single Fall Under Tokyo, a pumping radio tune with pure pop beats, soaring synths and Gideon’s mellow-sweet vocal. The Record features a vocal track from Josephine on Colours, a beautiful classic sounding soul ballad.
2013 has brought a UK tour with alternative Brighton based act, Bunty (Resonators). and plans are afoot for a joint October tour and 12″ vinyl release called ‘Highlights and Perceptions’ with independent Scottish singer Donna Macioca.
2015 saw the release of his 3rd studio album ‘Hiphop Original’ , released by London soul/jazz label Wah Wah 45s
‘I don’t believe in genres – I believe in songs.’
‘The people of Britain may not know it yet, but Gideon Conn is one of their national treasures.’ – Scroobius Pip
‘What’s going on in that crazy noggin of yours?’ – Russell Brand
Conjoined with music, sculpture is Gideon’s number 1 passion. His work is often abstract and usually involves rhythm and processes. It’s about materials and how they behave, discovering the unexpected things they can do, and always about finding ways of breaking up space and the search for a new aesthetic. Materials include wood, paper fliers, ceramics, plastic, fabric, electric cable, cardboard and whatever else i can get my hands on. Influences include Matisse, Brancusi, Richard Deacon and many more.

Wonderful venue. Run by proper professionals with a proper love of music. Awesome sound system. Cool as Fact.

User

Went to see the uk subs last night, absolutely superb, it’s great we’ve finally got somewhere in Halifax willing to put punk bands on, also great range of real ales and great staff, roll on the next gig, thanks lantern, keep up the good work.

User

This could be my new favourite venue, ranking along side the Brudenell and the Trades. Smaller and sweatier the better. The filthy rock n roll from Jim Jones on Thursday night was perfect for this place and Halifax.

Love the intimacy and will most certainly be returning some time soon.

User

The staff made the visit. The real ale was awesome and the venue intimate.

User

Perfect music venue for the high energy show from

Blackbeard’s Tea Party, well supported by Red Hippo. Excellent sound, real ale on the bar upstairs was a top bonus. Small, sweaty and superb. If you like having fun, you’d best get yourself along.

User

Opening night was a statement of intent!!! Well done Ben, Martin and the rest of the team. All your hard work will be paying off for years to come. Just what Halifax needed. You want to know what it’s like? Get yourselves down there to find out, I guarantee you won’t regret it 👍🏾

User

On my only visit to The Lantern, just last night, I found it to be a well organised music venue, and I experienced a thoroughly enjoyable evening. That owes a great deal to the musicians playing, namely Seafoam Green, and the wonderful Phil Campbell. That said, I was impressed also, with the general organisation, the pleasant & efficient staff, the excellent quality of the cask-conditioned ales, and simply the good ambience about the place.

I shall certainly be visiting again.

User

Great venue but don’t let the secret out or we’ll never get tickets again.....Wedding Present were brilliant as always

User

Great opening night! Massive well done to you all, the graft was all worth it as the place looks brilliant! Good music, tasty gin and beer and good people. Just what Halifax needed xxx

User

Great new venue, Halifax hasn't had a new one in 50 years. Super ale and drinks selection to complement the Alexandra next door. As a big music fan what really stands out is the top quality sound system. Hearing Mr Scruff play an eclectic set a few days ago was absolutely stunning. All the best for 2018, Ben and all the Lantern people!

User

Great gig venue, friendly atmosphere, and great staff

User

Great beer, great people, great live music.

User

Great bar downstairs with a friendly atmosphere and good selection of beers. Excellent venue upstairs with a large bar, great sound system and music of every genre being show cased. Excellent place

User

Great addition to the local music scene & yet another cool drinking venue for Halifax. Ben, Martin & team have done a tremendous job transforming the old Three Lanterns restaurant building into a compact top floor gig space with spacious bar at street level. Great selection of cask & keg beers & extensive range of craft cans. Hope local beer & music lovers get behind this venture - it's clear that a lot of hard work & vision has gone into it.

User

Exactly what "The fax" needed. Been to two gigs here in the past few months and have been impressed. Great that been a local lad also I for once don't have to keep looking at my watch for the last train. Keep my eyes open for gigs in the future, trés bon.

User

Cracking little venue. Nice feel about the place. Will be back.

User

Amazing venue for both performers and audience. Great space, professionally run and a brilliant addition to Halifax. Can't wait to get back.

User

Brilliant little venue, handily placed in town and two great bands. Oh, and good selection of beer. It was very hot inside but that was to be expected.

One or two technical glitches with the microphones but didn’t spoil the night at all.

User

The venue is fab the barstaff need a lesson in etiquette. One guy asked me and my brother's friends to keep our voices down as he couldnt hear the band properly. We paid to see the band, you just serve the beer!! Cheeky tw*t!
