The Kings and Queens lead the troupes and as you can see the costumes both reflect a concept and are amazing feats of engineering . And heavy . ūüŹčūüŹĺ‚Äć‚ôāÔłŹ Oh yeah . #FBF . On this cold cold day we thought you might like some hot hot hot ! ‚ėÄÔłŹ‚ėÄÔłŹ‚ėÄÔłŹ. For carnival‚Äôs 50th anniversary this string band flew in from St Kitts and Nevis ūüéĽūüéľūüŹĚūüáįūüá≥ to play at a number of events . We caught them on Chapeltown road with an impromptu performance ( maybe singing ūüé§for their supper ?ūüėā). They are playing outside Kalabash and if you love authentic Caribbean food it is one of several great restaurants in the area. Big up Dutch Pot and Maureen‚Äôs ! Yummy ūüėč . Carnival lovers know that Soca music ( the music of carnival ) evolved from Calypso in Trinidad and its evolution is credited to Garfield Blackman (aka ‚ÄúLord Shorty‚ÄĚ), whose granddaughter Naila Blackman performed with Calyp...so Rose at Coachella. Also performing with our Queen was Soca Superstar Machel Montana ūüôĆūüŹĹ ūüĎĎūüé§ ‚ú®‚ú®‚ú®‚ú®‚ú®‚ú®‚ú®‚ú®‚ú®‚ú®‚ú®‚ú®‚ú®‚ú ®‚ú® Rose totally wowed the crowd during her 45-minute performance but she has been doing that throughout her 64-year career being the first woman to win Trinidad's Calypso King Competition in 1978, (which had to be renamed Calypso Monarch) and for infusing her songs ( more than 800 ‚ú®) with messages about domestic violence and equality.
