What can I say? I love the Trout this has been a place weโ€™re we have gone and stayed for years. Not only as a couple but with our children too! Food is always on point and the rooms are just so lush ๏ฟฝ I can highly recommend The Trout to anyone...

User

We were staying in the Ennerdale Hotel in Cleator & we overheard one of the waitresses telling a couple of the guests that if they were going into Cockermouth that she would recommend the Trout hotel for something to eat. We decided last night after a nice long day out driving & walking that we would try it. We forgot it was a Saturday night. The staff were all nice. I think it might have been the restaurant manageress that said they had a table for 2 available in the al carte restaurant. We decided after having a look at both menus that we would eat in the bistro. Both menus were good it was just more casual dining we were looking for. It was just which is usually a good sign. We had a lovely dinner. I had the lemon chicken, chilli rice, brocolli & green beans. My husband had the lasagne. Both meals were lovely. We shared the white chocolate & orange mousse which was delicious. Would definately recommend and if we return to the lake district as we have been many times now we would definately return. The atmosphere and decor are all nice. Morag & Chris from Scotland.

We stayed at the Trout hotel through Travelzoo. In short the stay was perfect - a lovely room (I think we had been given a complimentary upgrade), the food was exceptional and the staff were extremely helpful and pleasant. A beautiful hotel and we hope to visit again.

User

Visited the Bistro today with my family for lunch. I am a coeliac and was given a menu full of gluten free options. All the sandwiches could be made with white or brown gluten free bread. Gluten free crisps and beer were also available. I was spoiled for choice- which is a luxury for me- I eventually chose the Fruits De Mer which was delicious and served with gluten free bread. My family ate from the normal menu and had the scampi, risotto and stroganoff. All delicious and good sized portions. We finished with coffee outdoors in the sun. Perfect lunch. Highly recommended. Will return.

User

The service was excellent. Best steak I had in a long time. We sat in the dinning area, very cosy. Beautiful place, highly recommend it.

User

Thank you to James,Sue and all the team at The Trout, our wedding at your hotel was everything we could of wished for. James you went above and beyond accommodating our endless requests. The food was amazing, everyone commented on, the kitchen did amazing catering for all 72 guests. We pushed you to the limit and you did not crack! Thank you once again.

User

Stayed there last night. Our room was fabulous. The food was delicious. Staff were lovely. Would definitely recommend it and will go back again. If I had to find fault our room was really hot. Not too bad a fault....... we opened the window ;)

User

Stayed on Sunday 18th February and was unable to fault the spotless room overlooking the river Derwent ,service, attentive staff and the food. This was my second visit and proved that my first visit opinion was no fluke.

User

Second time I have been for the Bistro Week, and once again this did not disappoint. All choices and courses that we had were beautifully presented and very tasty. The staff were helpful and very friendly wih the waiter holding the door open as we left, which was a nice touch. Lovely atmosphere for a relaxed enjoyable experience. Looking forward to the next one, or even just going for another meal.

User

Lovely place.

Me and the wife really enjoyed our stay, lovely view from our room (although we had to stand up next to the window to see it).

Helpful staff also need mentioning.

Oh and the breakfast was top notch.

If we ever return to Cockermouth we'll stay here again.

User

Lovely lunch in the Bistro yesterday we'll definitely return the place also has a nice atmosphere and easy parking.

User

Just stopped for a lunch snack and drink. The antipasti platter was very good. Covered terrace was very welcome in such hot weather

User

From arriving and entering the hotel what a lovely place decor was lovely staff were friendly and polite. Room was stunning went for a quick drink in bar before our distillery tour staff arranged taxi for us. Didn't have evening meal had room service which was lovely. Comfortable nights sleep breakfast was gorgeous lots of choice and good quality food. I would highly recommend a visit.

User

Fantastic 1 night stay in Executive River view room. This was a free upgrade and was immaculately clean and all looked like it had recently been refurbished.

Staff very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Was on a Dinner, bed and breakfast deal but unfortunately the restaurant was fully booked.

We had to eat in the bar but this was fine and food was very nice. We had fillet steak which was undercooked so we sent it back. This was not a problem and 5 minutes or so it came back cooked as we had requested. Overall it did not spoil the dining experience.

I would highly recommend this hotel if wanting to stay in a beautiful hotel with great accommodation and lovely staff.

This was our third stay at this hotel and will definitely return again. Dinner bed and breakfast is a fantastic deal if available.

Thanks again to Sue and all the team.

User

Fabulous place, great food and welcoming staff who understand great customer service.

User

We stayed at the Trout for two nights Friday and Saturday having purchased the online deal which included the three course set evening menu and breakfast for both days. There was not much choice (four) on the menu for each course and so we ended up eating the same food both nights as we did not like the other options available. We did ask if there were any alternative menus to choose from but were told no. Breakfast the first morning there were no issues however, the second morning they had run out of some buffet style options. The staff had not checked what was running low so when we requested more croissants there was a considerable wait after mixed messages from different staff who informed us they are cooked fresh. A table next to us were served their tea and toast before us despite coming in after us.

The junior suite we were given was very nice but the bed was two single beds pushed together with a sheet holding them. The room was very hot so we had to turn the radiator off. The flush was very stiff on all the toilets which we initially thought was broke so reported it only to be told to press both buttons in together.

These are just some minor faults that we encountered but we did thoroughly enjoy our stay.

User

My friend and I have had a great night at the Music Night tonight. Lovely food, great service, atmosphere. John the singer was brilliant. I would have given you 5 stars but your drinks are sooo expensive. A medium glass of pino ยฃ8.50!!!!

User

Havenโ€™t been to eat at the Trout Hotel for months after a few visits werenโ€™t so great. Today, I visited for lunch with my 6 year old and we really enjoyed ourselves. Food was really good and piping hot out of the kitchen - delicious. I think the specials menu is a great idea also as it gives that extra bit of choice. Staff helpful and pleasant as always.

User

We've been enjoying the Trout Hotel for years and loved going back. The staff are great, location great, food good, BUT since the refurb after the last flood, it's lost the lovely, welcoming character due to the cold colours of the redecoration. It could be a hotel anywhere! So due to the uncomfortable feel we have been reluctant to rush back! Sorry Trout
