Some top tips from Battersea, to help keep your canine cosy this Winter

Cat owners, do you ever get unwanted visitors? Are neighbouring cats entering your home and upsetting your resident feline and human companions? What are your tips for keeping them away?

These dog walks are definitely getting chillier now!

It is with great sadness we have today said farewell to our dear old friend Ronnie. He came as a wonderful rescue cat who for me personally made an impression by literally reaching up for cuddles from his hospital cage when he was in for skin treatment. He came back several times over 14 years ago as an adult cat until we asked if I could adopt him. He has stayed as a reception team member for all but the last 18 months when we have allowed him the comfort of the practice acc...ommodation upstairs with lots of love from all our staff. However today he had a sudden turn for the worse after 12 months of supportive treatment. So he has joined the stars and remains emblazoned on our hearts as our cat with character. Many dogs knew him by his swagger through the waiting room within an inch of their noses without a care in the world. True to form his prodigy “Erik” (who has taken over many of his duties at reception) was by his side until the end

Kittens grow fast... too fast, they're not cute and fluffy for long! Their birth weight increases 5-7 times in just the first couple of months!

User

Always feed rabbits pelleted foods & not muesli. They will pick out their favourites from the muesli & end up nutritionally deficient.

We now have our Christmas Cuddlies back in stock for the festive season along with our much loved Antler Chews! Grab them while they last! 🦌🎄

Because of their build basset hounds cannot swim very well… So be warned if you are a basset owner.

Arthritis affects cats, dogs and rabbits. They may need medication to help the pain; but you can also help by providing well padded bedding. Keeping the bed out of drafts and warm helps too - we'd love to see a picture of your golden oldies enjoying a nap.

User

A huge well done to all of our October graduates!! (not all in the same party - thankfully!)

User

Does your dog ever pee on their bed? If they do, one of the reasons could be because washing it can leave a fragrance that they do not like! If you have any worries about your dog's toileting habits, please speak to us.

User

Say congratulations to the next group of puppies - well done puppies!

Another day another round of gorgeous puppy party graduates!😍

Cats seem to spend a lot of their time sleeping, but when they do move they can sprint at about 31 mph!

User

We are on cuteness overload this week as we share with you the most adorable puppies who have been through our puppy parties over the last few months and faced the gruelling puppy play they have to do in order to graduate 😍

We met Brendan Clarke at a charity dog show and were extremely impressed with his wealth of knowledge about holistic veterinary medicine and alternatives to over-vaccination and harsh chemical treatments. We already see a holistic vet but wanted a back up, as they have no after-hours care. Brendan was wonderful with my very nervous rescue dog and counselled me on raw feeding, which I've been considering for awhile now. He also carefully checked her lipomas. His entire staff was professional and very courteous. If you want to give your pets the best chance of making it to a ripe old age, do them a favour and look at alternative veterinary medicine and diets. This is an outstanding vet practice.

We had a dental quote off our regular veterinary surgery that was ridiculously high. We felt that the price was their main concern rather than the care of our 8 year old male cat. Despite looking around for other quotes, no one was prepared to even lay out an estimate without first seeing him and paying yet another consultation fee.

Towerwood were the only surgery who emailed us back promptly with full package details of all the dental work they did, including telling us there was a discount if we booked in on certain days. We rang (several times) and spoke with reception staff about the level of cover to take and fitting him in ASAP as he was in pain. They assured us that they would also call us on the day if when they got into theatre, if more work was needed than we anticipated.

We went to the Cookridge surgery (Greengates was nearer but didn’t have a slot free & wanted him in as quickly as possible) and they were fantastic from start to finish. The care package stayed the same as we agreed over the phone but the tooth extraction was priced as extra. We were told this but as it was a complex removal it did enter the higher band. Saying that the whole treatment, extraction and scale and polish came in at £100 cheaper than what we were told at our usual practice – plus they said that figure could have risen!! We got two follow up appointments with Towerwood and he was treated with such care each time.

Couldn’t of asked for anything more and would definitely recommend Towerwood. Thanks to all who helped get our boy black to normal.

We can't thank Tinshill Road branch enough for how we were treated when we lost our precious Dalmatian Lilly the dignity and respect they show is exceptional and when we went to get her ashes they dealt with us in exactly the same manner. Not only that I have taken my cats there and they are fantastic with them and very thorough regarding the after care. I can't thank the staff enough for how they have treated us with all our pets. both me and my partner will be forever grateful x

We brought our two kittens in this week for their 1st jabs and check up. Everyone that we met was so friendly and personable, I was nervous before I went as I've never been to a vets, and thought it would be cold and stern like a doctors surgery and for some reason I thought I would leave feeling inadequate at looking after a pet.

I couldn't have been more wrong.

They all took an interested in our kittens and made us feel like proud pet owners.

The vet we dealt with was great, she gave our cats a lot of time and attention, she checked them thoroughly, seeking second opinions where needed (it turns out we have girls not boys!)

But what I liked best was that it was very apparent that she loves animals, she seemed smitten with Bonnie and Doris and I felt really touched by that. Her along with The reception staff were very helpful with any questions I had and I felt very confident with the knowledge I left with on how to care for kittens, and that my cats would be properly looked after and cared for in the future. I feel we are in good hands and I look forward to meeting the team again. And I know Bonnie and Doris will look forward to it too, they weren't scared or intimidated for one moment! Thanks everyone.

Very sympathetic when the loss of a pet has occurred. I have received beautiful worded cards from all at Tower Wood when I lost Sam my mother’s constant companion, and my little rabbit Joey. I cannot thank them enough gave me solace at a difficult time. The service is exceptional, caring and professional once your pet is in their hands you know you won’t get better care.

User

Towerwood vets are amazing, Tilly is on the road to recovery after been spayed and having her teeth cleaned. Amazing vets and very reasonable too. Unlike a well known chain of vets that quoted me double for her teeth cleaning what I paid for both at Towerwood.

User

Towerwood have looked after my cats for more years than i can remember...from my lovely diabetic cat sparky ..up until his death...and now my little "tribe" of cats...including my many "foster cats" for leeds feline friends over the years...we cannot reccomend them enough.

Lovely careing staff...and very friendly

These guys saved my dogs life this week. It sounds dramatic but our lovely Poppy hadn’t been right for a few weeks. We had taken her to the local vets and as a Mummy I felt I wasn’t being listened to there and I knew something more was going on with her. I went to tower wood as that’s where we used to take my childhood pets and they had come highly recommended recently by friends. I took her in and had a consultation with Nik. We had a plan in place for tests. I was being listened to and everyone at the surgery were being so helpful. Anyway, a few days later Poppy has declined further and I could wait until my afternoon appointment so wonderful Sue booked me in first thing. Thank god. It turns out Poppy has Addison’s syndrome and as a result had kidney stones and kidney failure. She was on the brink of death. Nik was amazing and did all the tests we had discussed and rushed them through. He wasn’t happy with the picture so he did more investigations. He then did the Addison test and it was positive so they could quickly treat her and luckily she responded really well. They listened to me and supported poppy with remedies and I will be eternally grateful to these guys (as will my kids whose world was nearly shattered!)! Even my husband had a tear in his eye when we went to pick her up today at seeing our bubbly girl back again. Sorry for the essay but these guys are incredible.

User

Thank you so much to Christina and all of the team at Towerwood for taking such good care of Tink Dobbs after her foray into needlework yesterday :-) As you can imagine she is still telling us about it ! Whenever Tink (and Bertie) have an appointment we are always struck by the care and kindness that is shown by whoever we come into contact with... just what you need at what can be a worrying time.

User

Such a relief to find a holistic vet that doesn’t try and push worming, fleaing and unnecessary vaccinations on my puppy. Brendan talks everything through and listens to you. Very happy with this vet and the approach , thank you

User

Really impressed with how the Eccleshill branch welcomed my 2 new pups, with a free vet nurse visit just to get them used to the place before their vaccinations the next day. Great value starter packages including puppy socialisation parties. Just shows how they care about the whole animal's wellbeing, not just their immediate health needs. Everyone has been friendly and helpful. So pleased we came here!

User

Many thanks to everyone yesterday for seeing our dachshund immediately. You were all so kind and the vet was magnificent. We are following doctors orders to the letter and hoping this has just been a bit of a set back on the road to recovery. So grateful, service beyond the call of duty!

User

Just wanted to thank you guys for the delicate handling of a very upsetting put-to-sleep of my little dwarf hamster Hattie. Everyone was fantastic; very respectful of how emotional I was and very attentive to getting Hattie looked after as soon as possible. I also want to take the opportunity to thank you for the excellent care she has received for her teeth over the past year; it can be very hard to find a good vet for tiny furries but you guys have been fantastic, always a very competent service at a very reasonable price.

User

I can't praise TowerWood Vets and in particular Brendan Clarke and his fabulous team of nurses enough. His surgery have treated my greyhounds for the past 12 years with the most amazing compassion, kindness and care that we could have wished for. Brendan is a vet who cares and will do all he can to take care of your animal and give them the best quality of life.

He is currently treating my 5yr old greyhound for a tumour and we are seeing him regularly, along with the nurses. Harry loves going in and regardless of the length of surgery and his subsequent stay there, Harry always has a wag and wiggle when he goes in.

There's no way we can find any vets as good nearer home so we travel from Salford, currently twice a week, and it's worth it!!

Thank you Brendan for your care of my dogs and us too, the words Thank You aren't enough for how Lel and I feel.

User

I am very grateful to these vets for the ongoing advice I have received regarding a female blackbird with a potentially broken wing that is living in my garden. They seem knowledgeable, realistic and compassionate in their care of wild animals and birds.. Thank you Towerwood.

Greengates branch: been away on holiday I have a dog sitter looking after my dog, he was diagnosed with a corneal ulcer before I went away. He needed to be checked out but my dog gets stressed very easy and is dog aggressive so Brendan went the extra mile with my dog to put him at ease and fir that I am very thankful. I phoned after the appointment paid my bill and was text a full report on the appointment which is another fab service as been away I've been very anxious. Thank you again from me and Neo x

User

Fantastic vets. Will definitly use them for all my cats. Rung the Greengates one up Monday evening very distressed because my cat Crumpet was very unwell. Got an appointment straight away and they were lovely with him. Would recommend them to anyone. Thank you to all the team for looking after my precious baby xxx

User

After been told by my old vet, there was nothing she could do with my pug, Elvis. .........Brendan has gone above and beyond to make him better and healthier. He's now on more natural remedies and is doing amazing. Also having laser treatment at the moment for his arthritis, that seems to be working! Thanking Amanda for all her lovely kind care , these people truly love animals . All the staff are lovely.

Last night whilst out; we called my mother in law to see if she was okay, only to have her answer the phone crying. Her precious kitten, bonnie had been run over. She rushed her to this vets to give bonnie the "best" chance of survival. Well that's what we thought was there intentions. She was firstly comforted by a vet who before even examining the cat told her it was "very bad" and kept repeating this to her, whilst my mother in law sat in tears he had passion about him what so ever, he just looked like we'd interrupted a "peaceful" night for him. My mother in law was sat for 40 minutes before anybody had told her about her beloved pet, to which one nurse came out to say she was wiggling about all over so it was hard for them to get her to keep still. For the vet to come out and say that if we sedated her she will "crash". ( how inappropriate)!

He then after several hours called us into a side room to say it would be best to put her to sleep, as her injuries to her spine would mean she would be paralysed. He should us the X-ray image not knowing that my mother in law seems images like this everyday as part of her job. She asked if it could just be swelling and he said "he wasn't sure" but if people with spinal injuries were in that much pain they would be begging for them to go and this is when we need to pray for them. Not knowing my mother in law worked on a spinal ward for 3 years, she told him this and said it was aload of sh*t. They have no remorse towards how upset my mother in law was. Bonnie was 10 months old, still only a baby, she was a crazy, beautiful loving cat and I honestly believe that your vets didn't give her a fighting chance!

I am disgusted and outraged by what has happened and hope to god this never happens to anyone else! My mother in law has had cats for over 25years and they have all lived up to or past 20 years. She had a feeling something was wrong about the vet last night and so did me and her daughter.

As vets you should understand that pets are fur babies to families and the effect it will have on people when they are mistreated by people who are suppose to care for them. I'm disgusted and will definitely be making sure every pet owner I know does not visit your vets.
