We are pleased to announce that 'Queer Space @ The Chaplaincy' is back for a whole new term!
We will be launching with a screening of Peterson Toscano's amazing film Transfigurations on Tuesday the 2nd of October! Toscarno is a "Quirky Queer Quaker performance artist and scholar" who's film Transfigurations unearths the stories of gender-variant people in the Hebrew and Christian scriptures, and thus deepens well-known (and lesser-known) Bible stories and presents an array of... Bible characters with an array of genders.
However we will have a couple of planning meetings in the next couple of weeks (on Tuesday the 18th and 25th of September) to help plan the rest of the terms activities. If you are new to Queer Space or an old hand please come along to these and say what you want the space to be for the next term!
Our group seeks to draw on #Queer Theology to provide fellowship for #LGBTQIA+ #Christian students and staff and their allies through being a member led community. As this is your space you will be given plenty of opportunity to shape it and the first couple of meetings will be dedicated to planning (in a fun way) for the rest of the term. Future dates may well include Bible studies, worship, music, meditation, prayer, poetry and performance.
If you are a student or member of staff at the University of Leeds, Leeds Beckett University, Leeds Arts University, or the The The University of Law who wants to get involved in an LGBTQIA+ affirming Christian community, this is for you!
There will also be plenty of free tea and coffee!
If you have any questions about the space please email Robin Hanford at R.A.Hanford@leeds.ac.uk or R.Hanford@leedsbeckett.ac.uk

Students and staff at the University of Leeds and Leeds University Union have just held a vigil to mark the devastating fire that tore through #Grenfell Tower a year ago. Several tables where lined with 72 roses, each one representing a person who lost their lives in the fire or as a result of it. Each bundle of roses represents a family who died together.
Chaplains are still outside the union should you wish to come a pay your respects.

Grenfell Tower Vigil at the University of Leeds. Today the University will be marking the first anniversary of the Grenfell Tower disaster with a moment of silence on the Union Steps. Whether you join us there, are able to join our silence from where you are at 12.30 or find time later, here are a few things you might do in that silence: In that silence you may be mindful of those still affected a year on. Those who still need a new home. Those who still suffer the loss of ch...erished possessions Those who still suffer mentally or physically from the trauma of that fire. Those who are still demanding answers to questions Those who have lost people they love. In that silence you may be mindful of those who a year on struggle with feelings of guilt. Those who out of the best motives took actions that turned out to be harmful – those who gave the wrong advice, those who erred in judgement. Those whose carelessness, or inattention to detail contributed to the disaster. Those whose motives were not the best. Those who saved themselves and regret having not done more to save others. Those who by cutting corners or cutting costs contributed to the fire escalating out of control in the first place. Remember that however culpable these people might prove to be, not one of them would have wished for the disaster to have happened and each one has a burden to struggle with. In that silence we might be thankful for all the people who day by day contribute to our safety, often in the most boring, hum drum and unspectacular ways. And in that silence we honour those who have died, not as Grenfell victims but as the unique human beings they each were to those who knew them and, as some of us see it, to God. Be mindful that though the Grenfell Disaster ended those lives, it did not define them.

We love to look up from our base in the Emmanuel Centre at the University of Leeds and watch the Parkinson Peregrines. They have just had a chick and, thanks to University of Leeds Sustainability, you can watch them too (wherever you are)! 🐤🦅http://sustainability.leeds.ac.uk /peregrines/

Students and staff of the University of Leeds have just observed a two minute silence outside Leeds University Union to remember all those affected by the #ManchesterArena attack last year.
The silence was introduced by our Quaker Chaplain Robin Fishwick and afterwards Farhat Yaqoob, the Muslim Student Adviser of University of Leeds read a poem.
A silence was also observed at Leeds Beckett University and Leeds Beckett SU which was attended by our Methodist Chaplain Melvyn Kel...ly.

We at the Chaplaincy are remembering all those affected by the terrorist attack in Manchester a year ago. We know that many students and staff were effected by those events.
We are especially praying for family and friends of Leeds Beckett University student Courtney Boyle who lost her life that day.
The way that the they city of Manchester and all those affected continue to deal with those events with such unity and grace is an inspiration to us all.

Just a reminder that our remembrance service for University of Leeds student Rivka Moszkowsky starts at 4:30 today.

User

We welcome everyone with fond memories of our lovely friend Rivka Moszkowsky to join us in a simple act of remembrance upstairs in the Emmanuel Centre.
It will follow the Quaker style - that is to say it will be based in silence, but in that silence you are welcome to share a thought or a memory.
We welcome people of all faiths and none to this commemoration.
