We were asked to construct a bespoke bookcase and map display unit by a lovely couple in Huddersfield. After a bit of careful measuring we were underway and I'm sure you'll agree the result is very satisfying.

There were a few nervous museum curators at the National Railway Museum earlier this week prior to the successful manoeuvre from the conservation workshop to the install position of the somewhat priceless and very heavy "Mersey Poster" another job well done by our team at Usher Joinery Services Ltd.
And relax!

It was a strange thing today to open up an archway after some 40 years of it being blocked, before fitting a new hoarding to keep people out. there were "soda straws" dangling from the ceiling the longest of which was approximately 9 feet. So that we can all become wiser (I found it useful anyway) I've included the Wikipedia description below.
A soda straw (or simply straw) is a speleothem in the form of a hollow mineral cylindrical tube. They are also known as tubular stala...ctites. Soda straws grow in places where water leaches slowly through cracks in rock, such as on the roofs of caves. Soda straws in caves rarely grow more than a few millimetres a year, but may only average just a tenth of a millimetre per year.[1] A soda straw can turn into a stalactite if the hole at the bottom is blocked, or if the water begins flowing on the outside surface of the hollow tube. These tubes form when calcium carbonate or calcium sulfate dissolved in the water comes out of solution and is deposited. In soda straws, as each drop hovers at the tip, it deposits a ring of mineral at its edge. It then falls and a new drop takes its place. Each successive drop of water deposits a little more mineral before falling, and eventually a tube is built up. Stalagmites or flowstone may form where the water drops hit the cave floor.

We wanted to keep this case light and bright which is just inside the entrance to the museum, so using Birch and Maple for the hardwood sections it's created a lovely warm feel to the cabinet.

All good things must come to an end. The Soyuz Capsule has moved on and it's time to give the turntable at The National Railway Museum back to the locomotives

It's not every day you get to strip down and deliver an aeroplane from one museum to another, then get a grand tour of a Vulcan bomber thrown in.

Another busy weekend at Manchester Museum of Science & Industry. I must admit there was a bit of a Fred Dibnah satisfaction moment when the shed did exactly what we wanted it to

Just another weekend.
