Following on with our Prayer theme forJesus-Shaped People (JSP) and Women’s World Day of Prayer (WWDP) we listened to the music from Slovenia and the children worked on ‘Lord’s Prayer’ activity. We also ate Medenjaki - Honey biscuits. Delicious! Recipe available. Private message us if you would like s copy.

A fabulous time was had at Messy Church today. We had our largest turn out yet and it was great to meet new families. We had fun with the Women’s World Day children’s resources. I didn’t manage to get many pictures but here are a few. Looking forward to next month.

Starting with Messy Church on Saturday 3.00pm to 5.00pm including a meal. This free with an optional retiring collection. Family service on Sunday at20.00am. Both events will be using World Day of Prayer materials from the ladies of Slovenia. We would love to see you to share this exciting and interesting topic.

The church has recently had a gas 'smart' meter fitted after which we had a bill for £9,368.86p!!!!! This is the difference between the actual gas used and the estimates on bills. Nobody has come near the church to read a meter since at least 2012 (maybe earlier than that). So, if anyone has got any change they can spare...….?

Our next 3 Family Services are on Sundays 10th February, 10th March (easy that: two dates almost the same) AND 31st March. So, yes, that's TWO Family Services in March; the second one (31/3/19) is Mothering Sunday. These services all start at 10.00A.M. Also on two similar dates: Saturdays 9th February and 9th March are our next two sessions of Messy Church, both 3-5pm. Do come along.

It's Holocaust Memorial Day. Remember in your thoughts and prayers the survivors of what was probably the greatest atrocity carried out by humanity. That over six million people should die simply because of who they were remains a terrible moral outrage. We should never get used to this fact (or deny it) and we should always remember those who continue to suffer. Pray too we will use the peace wisely and not persecute anyone because of who they are or the race or tribe they belong to.

This Sunday 20th January 2019, come and join us for the 3rd week of JSP: Jesus Shaped People (15 weeks total). We're thinking about how Jesus interacted with people, especially 'outsiders' - those not part of the religious elite. This challenges us today to go out of the way to welcome people who are LGBT, refugees, asylum-seekers, the folk that society often despises (or worse). There will likely be just a couple of dozen of us (the cold will keep some away) but you will be very welcome, and we'll all be in the same boat as the vicar, Andrew, teaches us a couple of 'new' worship songs!

This is the Christmas Crib on display in Leeds Civic Hall (where the 99 Leeds City Councillors debate and decide on how to run this city). 'Not sure how long the Crib has been up but it's out Christmas Fair on Saturday 24th Nov. 2018 11am to 1pm. Come along and buy some prezzies and see a display by our Brownies too.

A few photos from our Remembrance Family Service. It was amazing to have so many Beavers, Cubs and Brownies in church. We made our own Flanders Field artwork. Well done guys.

Some people think the church gets money from the State (i.e., from your taxes). This is not true. Ven. Bede gets money from 3 places: 1) what people put in the plate (or by standing order these days) - about 60%; 2) hall rents (Slimming World are VERY helpful) - about 15%; and 3) telecoms masts - about 25%. But, and it's a very big BUT: O2 have left us and in 2019 and onwards we will be £6,000p.a. (£500/ month or over £100/week) worse off.
We have just had a successful stewardship campaign and the current shortfall of £57/week has been met through increased giving (No.1 above). A legacy or two would also help! Next year our Parish Share, the money we pay to the Diocese of Leeds, will be almost £30,000, up 10% on 2018 (AND up 66% on 2015). So, a few financial miracles would help. Any ideas anybody???
