Message from our Crime Prevention Officer Libby Walker
It’s that time of year when many are planning their holidays, include crime prevention in your plans both for your home. Burglars will target unoccupied property – make sure your house looks occupied.
Have lights throughout the house on timers.... Could a friend or neighbour attend and pull curtains on at night and pull them back in daylight? Make sure no keys are in sight or left in locks, including window locks. Does a trusted neighbour have a contact number in case they have concerns? Do not advertise your absence on social media!
Check our website to make sure your security is up to date, https://www.westyorkshire.police.uk/burgl ary

Message from our Crime Prevention Officer Libby Walker
Yesterday we had TWO vehicles in the Huddersfield area which were left unattended with keys in ignition and subsequently stolen. Wherever you are, however quiet in may seem, ALWAYS take your keys and lock the vehicle, even if only leaving it for seconds. In the past we have had incidents in petrol stations and for delivery drivers on residential streets.

Update: Firearms Discharge, Marina Terrace, Huddersfield
Monday 8 April 2019
Police have arrested a 24 year old man on suspicion of attempted murder.
... He remains in police custody at this time.
Saturday 6 April 2019
Detectives are appealing for witnesses following a firearms discharge on a street in Huddersfield this morning.
Officers were called to reports of a disturbance at Marina Terrace at 1.33am.
Firearms officers attended and confirmed that there had been a discharge.
No injuries have been reported.
The firearms discharge is being treated as a targeted attack.
A scene is in place for forensic examination and enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
Detective Superintendent Nicola Bryar said:
‘Our investigation is at an early stage but we believe this incident was a targeted attack and no one was injured.
‘We believe the suspects left the scene in a vehicle. It’s understood this incident is linked to a report of criminal damage to a vehicle at the location earlier on at about 11.30pm.
‘We take all reports of firearms extremely seriously and there is no place for this criminal activity on our streets.
‘Neighbourhood patrols will be in the area today to provide reassurance to any residents who may have concerns.
‘I’m appealing to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area to contact police and help us with our enquiries.
‘I would urge anyone who has information to contact police on 101 quoting log 121 of April 6.’
