About York Gate Garden

York Gate Garden, established in 1951 with meticulous plantings and architectural features, opening onto stunning vistas. Leeds, West Yorkshire.

York Gate Garden Description

York Gate is an incredible one-acre garden tucked away behind the ancient church in Adel, on the northern outskirts of Leeds (LS16).

It was created by the Spencer family as their own private garden between 1951 and 1994, when it was then bequeathed to Perennial, the UK's only horticulturists charity.

We open York Gate for you to enjoy on 5 afternoons a week from April through to September. Please check our web site for our exact opening times before setting off. We have a cafe for light lunches and afternoon teas, as well as a gift shop and small plant nursery.

It is a garden of immense style and craftsmanship, widely recognised as one of the most innovative small gardens of the period.

Thousands of visitors come each year. Whether you come just to enjoy the tranquil beauty of the garden, or if you are a keen gardener or designer yourself, you can pass a very pleasant hour or two here soaking in the magic of York gate.
