ENCOUNTERS | GENDER IDENTITY | JUNE 27 & 28 | WORKSHOP | Performing Gender
A 2 day open intensive workshop for artists and those with an interest in gender.
As part of the European project Performing Gender British dance artist Hannah Buckley and Spanish playwright and dramaturg Sergio Martinez delivered an 8 day workshop for local dancers in Madrid.
... As part of our upcoming Encounters Festival in June they invite you to join them here at Yorkshire Dance as they share elements of this workshop and their research.
Taking inspiration from nature and the idea of transformation Hannah and Sergio will offer metaphors and imagery as starting points to explore how a fluid identity can express itself and if it’s possible to transcend gender.
The workshop is both a collective experience and also a space for people to bring their own individual perspective, understanding and questions in relation to gender.
Dance training is not necessary for this workshop, but an interest in moving is.

We're delighted to announce that our next Encounters, a 2-day Pay As You Feel festival, will be exploring gender identity. Come along and join a crowd of inspiring dance artists from Friday 28 - Saturday 29 June.
Following in the vein of our previous Encounters festivals, we reach out to a wider group of people, including families, in the investigation of gender diversity through dance, whilst celebrating the experiences of Trans and non-binary artists.
Our full line up of e...vents will be announced shortly, but in the meantime, we’re thrilled that Performance Artist Hannah Buckley and playwright and dramaturg Sergio Martinez will be leading a 2-day open intensive workshop called Performing Gender. Taking inspiration from nature and the idea of transformation, Hannah and Sergio will use metaphors and imagery, to think about different expressions of fluid identity and whether gender itself can be transcended.
Also joining the line-up is 71Bodies1Dance, a multidisciplinary trans art project by Daniel Mariblanca in which photography, film installation and dance performance are brought together to explore the reality and complexity of the wide spectrum of (trans)gender identities.

A great building..... Although if you've never visited before, you could pass it, without knowing it was there. Facilities were good. Tea/coffee available for only a £1.00 at reception. Lifts for convenience. Overall good visit.
