Aldwark Scout Activity Centre

We've had another great weekend with our volunteer team. Spent time prepping the centre for next season, speaking to our crew and celebrating their achievements, and keeping them updated about our upcoming developments and exciting plans for the year ahead.
Massive thank you to everyone who helped on our Saturday work day! We had a massively productive day getting ready for our next guests arrivals!
We can't wait to see you all soon!

British Canoeing have changed the old 1 and 2 star awards to work online with the Scout badges. Check out the poster to for more information. We will be putting some of these up across the centre too.

We’re getting excited for the new water season! 💦🎉🥳
We’ve had a lovely delivery today of 30 new Beaver sized helmets.

We’ve had a busy working weekend at the centre. Our volunteers have been cleaning, tidying, painting etc in preparation for our groups visiting us this year. Hopefully you’ve all made it home and now are taking it easy. Thanks for all your help.

And we’re off... our team of volunteers are at the centre this weekend prepping it for our 2019 visitors. Thanks to them for their dedication, and we all hope you stay warm this chilly weekend. ❄️🧹🛠🧱⚙️🧰

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
2018 was another amazing year at Aldwark...
🎉We had the arrival of more lovely new team members, along with some long awaited new kit!
... 🎉New safety equipment, open boats, a new raft, a new bouldering wall and a new archery shelter, and fully stocked shop with all new gift for our visitors. A massive thank you to all the volunteer team members for helping make this happen for our guests.
🎉We have also had some great personal achievements within our amazing crew too.
🎉Massive congratulations to the team who won in the county archery competition, and then to Scott Mainprize, Cameron Mathers & Matty Deighton who went on to WIN the West Yorkshire Fellandale Challenge!!

We wondered if any of our followers could help a group in need...
Evening, Is there any chance there’s a minibus available tomorrow or hire from a local Scout Group?
... One of my local scout groups from Darlington are staying at Aldwark this weekend and they’ve had a minibus breakdown, they’re looking for a minibus to get back to Darlington tomorrow to take the young people home - it’s about 50 min drive from Aldwark.
I know it’s a long shot, but thinking you guys are fab and probably know someone that might just be able to help them out. Any suggestions would be brilliant.

Our crew really enjoyed hosting our first fun day this year, so we've set a date for the next one, next summer. The event is open to everyone and is to help us as a charity raise money to develop activities for all our visitors, increase the expertise of our crew through training, and to help with general maintenance of the centre, and the equipment.
We will be offering opportunities to do the following below activities:

We've had a truly amazing 2018 water season and we'd like to thank all those who have visited us, and we look forward to welcoming everyone over the winter time.
Bookings are now open for 2019, and weekends are booking up fast so please get in touch by emailing bookings@aldwark.org for us to check availability and get your group booked in.

We’d like to say a massive thank you to our volunteer team, who have put together this brilliant archery shelter! This will be great for on future groups and looks amazing. Hope our future groups enjoy it.

Our 40 new buoyancy aids are looking lovely for our next guest. Thanks to the team for negotiating a great deal for us.

How amazing is our new archery shelter looking so far! Massive thanks to our devoted volunteers who helped build it and get it in place this weekend. They are all excited about starting the cladding!

We’d like to congratulate Katie and Ben, two of our volunteer team members, who have been acknowledged by Central Yorkshire Scouts for their continued commitment to Youth Shaped scouting with an award for going ‘above and beyond’. Thank you for all the hard work and dedication to our centre.

Wow my daughter had a fab time yestarday with her beavers group she only joined a few weeks ago and the opportunities you volunteers give her go above and beyond so thank you for your commitment in our children's learning

We visited yesterday for the day with a group of Beavers and a few Cubs and a Scout from 8th Carlton. The day was action packed and super well organised from start to finish. The activities were set perfectly for the individual abilities. Such positive feedback from everyone. We can’t wait to come back next year for a camping weekend. Well done Aldwark!!! X

We have just had the most amazing weekend here with our cubs and scouts. The crew were outstanding nothing was too much trouble even the most nervous of scouts were in water and this was due to the kindness and patience of all the crew. Can not recommend this site enough xxx

My son can not stop talking about this. He loved it an now he is fast asleep. He said it was the best campsite he has ever been to

My scout has had a fantastic camp here this weekend - despite returning home exhausted, he was still excitedly explaining about paddling a kayak a mile down the river to visit an island and being part of a 10-man inflatable raft team and then capsizing a 3-person canoe 14(!!) times whilst practicing jumping off/in � ... it’s just an amazing experience, thank you so much.

Just been on my first scout camp. Couldn't have wished for a better experience. The crew, staff and facilities were excellent. Hope to be back again.

Just back from Aldwark after taking my scouts for the weekend. All I can say was the Crew were out of this world and couldn't do enough to make sure the Scouts had a good time. The site itself is beautiful and facilities are good. Thanks everyone concerned.

I went as a young guide, I was about 16. I loved to sail... I'm in my 50's now! I had a full life of sailing and this was just a small part of it. Please save it so many more young people can have that experience.

Harry had an amazing time yesterday with his Beaver troop from 8th Carlton Scout Group. Thank you all so much for organising all the different activities. His favourite part was jumping into the water! He can’t wait to come back!

Had a great weekend with our cubs and scouts from Cookridge Village. I have never had so much fun in water. Would definitley come again.

You lot were brilliant with the beavers, on and off the water, when you consider some of our beavers are not yet six but with your encouragement and sense of fun and safety they all got to go in a single seat kayak this morning think it was the highlight of there weekend

First Visit this weekend. It seems I have a water ninja with aspirations of joining the crew! Was a fabulous venue with good facilities and the crew had great interaction with leaders and kids alike!

Fantastic place to camp and learn to Kayak. Facilities are great. The crew are all brilliant and very friendly. I am slightly biased as my son has just joined the crew, but I know he is in safe hands. When I pick my son up, on a Sunday, after a weekend of being on the crew, all I see is smiling faces from the leaders and the YPs, who have camped and been on the water, which is amazing.

Excellent weekend with our scouts - leaders are great with the young people on the water and everyone is friendly and helpful. Thanks to everyone involved!

Brilliant weekend - absolute beginners spent all weekend on the water. Fab experienced crew delivered a weekend of fun where we felt safe at all times. More experienced people had tuition, and honed techniques. Accommodation and facilities were perfect for scouting groups 👍

Brilliant place, fantastic people. We have brought our Guides to Aldwark many times over the years and we always have a great time. Aldwark is a very special place where memories are made. Can't wait to come back again.
