Delicious breakfast, coffee and tea today :) only not 5* because the price is prohibitive.

The service is impeccable and quality of food delicious.

We booked Lady Bettys afternoon tea at £31 pp and felt let down by the cakes. Not the quality they were delicious, it was the quantity.

We were so dissapointed when there was one particular tiny desert to share between 3 of us. Sadly so small it was impossible to cut into 2 tiny pieces let alone 3 adults and it was the desert our waiter highly recommended.

I really feel when 3 adults book there should be 3 of each cake?

We got one tiny goosberry macaroon between 3 of us? We couldnt wait to enjoy our Bettys macaroon and 2 of us sat on and watched while mum guiltily enjoyed it.

After several years of walking past the lengthy queues, we finally decided to join the queue to find out for ourselves what all the fuss was about. Well, it’s a lovely place with very pleasant staff and a nice cuppa. Worth the price? Not on your nelly. A nice cup of coffee can be found in many places, as can a Welsh Rarebit or an egg sarnie - for a few quid less - and twenty quid for a single portion of afternoon tea is a tad pricey for what it is. However, what it is is what makes Bettys what it is and I have to say it is special. We can’t afford to pop in every time we visit York but would recommend it at least once. Our son wasn’t particularly impressed as he said he could have got a sarnie and a drink much quicker and cheaper elsewhere. As he said “I could have got an egg sandwich from the coop for fifth of the price”! He’s right, of course, but not in the ambience and pleasing surroundings that makes Bettys a worthwhile visit.
