There are still tickets available to watch The Greatest Showman or Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone at our open-air screenings on a warm summer's evening, against the stunning backdrop of Bolton Priory!

The Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority and Bolton Abbey Estate have made a joint decision to re-open Barden Moor and Barden Fell following last night’s rainfall.
The closure signs at all 22 access points on to Barden Moor and Barden Fell have been replaced with ‘Fire Hazard’ signs. We ask visitors to be extra cautious while on the moors as there is still high fire risk.
Barden Moor and Barden Fell may be subject to further closures should the hot and dry weather continue. Please keep an eye on our website and social media for updates.

According to tradition, whatever the weather is like on St Swithin's Day, that same weather will continue for the next 40 days and 40 nights.
So it looks like we'll be treated to a sunny July and August!
Thanks for the photograph Jonathon Lee Brookes.

For those who've already enjoyed our Welly Walk, what were your children's favourite part of the trail? Did they prefer navigating balance beams and wobbly stirrups or scrambling through tunnels? Or were they more partial to scrambling through tunnels or navigating the maze? Or did they perhaps enjoy our new obstacle, the Igloo, the most?
We'd love to hear your stories - and for those who've yet to enjoy our Welly Walk, we hope to see you soon so that you can choose a favourite of your own!

Due to all of the glorious hot and sunny weather we are currently experiencing, the water supply here at Bolton Abbey is running slower than usual. This is because the water on the Bolton Abbey estate comes from natural springs and bore holes. We are therefore taking steps to conserve water usage wherever we can. In order to do this we have decided to temporarily close our toilets in the Village car park, Riverside car park and Strid car park, as of 6pm this evening. We have portaloos in situ as a replacement. We hope you agree that all this sunshine is certainly better than a summer of rain and therefore thank you in advance for your understanding.

Applicants need not have experience, however, must be hard working, personable and customer focused at all times.
This role is a permanent position working every Saturday afternoon and being on call as a back-up staff member on... a Sunday. Please share with anyone you think may be interested!

We took some friends yesterday to do the walk from Cavendish pavillion up through Strid to barden bridge and back again! It was absolutely beautiful and well worth the £10 parking fee! We are from Derbyshire and have some amazing places to visit here but we were in Bolton Abbey 2 years ago and will definitely be back again!

User

We came here yesterday when we knew we was going to get a good sunny day and what a great day we had!

The atmosphere was brilliant, everyone was enjoying picnics and BBQ's. There were kids, adults and dogs paddling

Lots of grass to you to sit and kids play, it was very busy so I recommend you try get there early for a good spot. A good sunny day is probably a must. The views of the Abbey are beautiful :) Fab day overall would recommend to all ages.

User

Visited yesterday with my wife , it's the first time she's been, an boy was she amazed. We ventured over the stepping stones and made our way through the wet welly walk , took lots of pictures an enjoyed the fresh air and views.

Took in the Abby itself ( saved it for last as it's more than worth it. Then we had lunch at one of the TEA rooms which I may add was amazing , it seemed expensive when looking at the menu , but it was more than worth it beautiful lunch , with an amazing view of the Abby. It was on the ride home my wife said can we visit again an possibly find somewhere to stay for a few nights, another new fan. 5* highly recommend it. ( p.s £10 for parking is a snip for what you get to take in and enjoy )

User

This is a beautiful place to visit, especially with children. The sun was shining and they loved paddling in the water and walking around the ruins. We also had a go at the welly walk but didn’t manage to get to the end due to a very tired 4 year old. Great scones and coffee at the tearoom at the top of the hill with views to die for! Will definitely be visiting again soon!

User

The most beautiful relaxing best maintained day out anywhere in the uk and you can just park on the grass next to the river and set up a bbq or picnic and claim a large flat piece of field to play cricket footy or rounders or paddle swim float or skim in the river and there is even a beach near the stepping stones I have been taking my children for 25 years ( oldest 35 youngest 12 😄 and it’s always been the same no interference no jobsworths and amazing walks my son mike got married in the abbey here 5 years ago and there were no rules or restrictions and the bride groom and party were allowed to be photographed on the stepping stones I love 💕 this place to death and makes me proud to be a born and bred Bradfordian 😄😄😄

User

Spent the day at Bolton Abbey with family. The £10 entrance fee per car was a bargain.

Looked round the chapel, the kids enjoyed the quiz, the Abbey ruins and the Monks stepping stones. The highlight for the kids was playing in the river Wharf.

There are not many places where the family can have day out, have so much fun for everyone.

User

I hadn't been in years, it was great to be back. As beautiful as I remembered. Paying £10 to park and have access to all 3 car parks seemed a good price as told to us by the car park attendant. What was confusing it stated the ticket wasn't transferable between the car parks. I think it could have been sign posted better, we drove by the 1st car park not knowing that was the nearest car park to the Abbey. Loved it will definitely be back for another visit in the near future. Oh the tea rooms were lovely very helpful and friendly staff. I don't get when signs ask you not ride your bike or let your dog off a lead is wasted on some people. I kept my dog on his lead as requested, quite a few dogs off leads said hello to him. What's so special about those ignorant people.

User

I had a wonderful day full of wonderful views. The birdsong was beautiful. There were so many springtime flowers. I saw primroses, violets wood anemones and bluebells growing in the ancient woodland alongside the river. I really enjoyed watching the many birds on the walk towards Barden. I was really lucky to see the mandarin ducks really close and some beautiful blue tits, great tits and long tailed tits. Lovely to have a cup of tea and a snack at Cavendish Pavilion. A really great day out. I would highly recommend Bolton Abbey.

User

I came yesterday and i loved it. We only managed to see half of the place but we will be back to see the other half. I like that some areas you can let the dog of the lead. But what I didn't like was being told to turn our music off even though it was on low and wasn't bothering anyone around us as there wasn't many people near us. If you can't play music you need to display signs saying so. But apart from that it's a really lovely place.

User

Great place for the whole family. I visited loads as a kid with my family and now it's my turn to do the same with my little girl. Brings back lots of happy memories whenever I visit. Spent the whole day here yesterday and it's fantastic.

User

Excellent place. We arrived early with our three boys and got an excellent spot by the river. The £10 parking fee is well worth the money as you can park all day and well into the evening. The only slight disappointment was that the path to the valley of desolation was closed due to fire risk, but this is completely understandable. All in all a brilliant day and we'll be going back soon.

User

Beautiful place to go with my two children they enjoyed the trail with the adventures along the way, as we drive off we realised just how far we walked , but didn’t notice it because we were having to much fun. Stepping stones and ruins were lovely too will definitely visit again

User

We visited this weekend to walk up to Barden towers and ba k. The views are great and the paths are well maintained, clean toilets on route . Parking a bit steep at Ten pounds but for a full car not so bad.grounds are well looked after and we can recommend it for families with little ones.

User

We thought the entry fee was really reasonable, there’s not many places you can go with the family for £10. The cafe could do with reducing their prices. Families want a day out and for it to not cost the earth, it cost me nearly £12 for three coffees and a coke. Other than that we had a good day and my 2 kids and Hubbard were suitably worn out

User

We had a family day out on Bank Holiday Monday it was a lovely day, it was packed all day, even when we were trying to get out there was still alot of cars on there way in.they could do with building another toilet block as it took us 20mins each way to get to the loos only to find queues a mile long when we got there.when we were walking round we were looking for a litter bin to use & only found 1 at the other side of bridge to the cafe which was nearly full, the ice cream vans didn't have any either.even having said all that it was still a great day out

User

Lovely place for family picnic.

The Abbey is wonderful and a true treasure to preserve.

the stain glass windows in the church are beautiful especially on a sunny day.

I Noticed a lack of bins and also toilet facilities and poo bins.

Must have been 200 people there on Monday Bank Holiday.

I still have a gripe about dog owners not picking up after their dogs.

User

Had a great day there yesterday considering it was a busy Saturday. Everyone seemed to be enjoying their day. So many positives, the stunning views, the location, the river, the woodlands, the wildlife. But! on the flip side, the cafe was closed for a wedding function. Fair enough, but the food outlet thst was open was staffed by 3 or 4 young girls who appeared out of their depth as far as service is concerned. But worst of all, the toilets were disgraceful. No running water to wash hands. Portaloos were cleaner. A lot of money was taken by the £10 admission fee and there were hundreds of cars. Come on Bolton Abbey, hire more staff who know what they're doing and clean the toilets and empty bins. Its basic stuff!

15-7-18 a beautiful and calm, peaceful place to visit,i was quite a bit shocked at the price £10 entry fee,as when i went 4 years ago it wasnt as dear, but times change i gess, but the 1 think that i would improve on is making it more accessable for pram to get down to the river bank near the cafe past the strid, very hard if impossibe to do,other than that ,excellent experince

Sorry state of affairs when you bring your family and friends to such a beautiful place such as Bolton Abby and get abused by a family of Asian men & women in front of the children, then they have the cheek to pull he racist card. Apparently I’m a red neck tamp who needs to get back to where I come from!!! I don’t have a racist bone In my body but I’m leaving this place now feeling like were outcasts and the minority. Its absolutely heart breaking. This place has gone to the dogs and I won’t be coming back!!

Saying that we’ve had a good day prior to the abuse #boltonabby
