We went for Sunday lunch lovely choice of meat at least 5 vegetables large Yorkshire pud roast and mash potatoes and lovely gravy every delicious. The staff really pleasant. Every nice hotel .The bird of prey centre was the icing on the cake.

User

We did a voucher deal for birds of prey and an afternoon tea. The afternoon tea was of good quality with lovely scones. There was plenty of it too. The staff also couldn't have been more helpful to us or friendly. Really lovely customer service.

This place is amazing. So peaceful and the grounds are gorgeous with a fab Birds of Prey Centre. The rooms are lovely and the food out of this world. The best thing is that the staff are fabulous. So friendly and helpful and canā€™t do enough for you. Went as a birthday treat with my sister and we had a lovely time. Canā€™t wait to return xx

I was the photographer for a wedding recently at Burn Hall. Cannot speak highly enough of the staff, the venue, and the overall welcome that myself and the entire wedding party received. This venue is fantastic ! Would definitely recommend !

I visited the bird of prey centre and the hotel for afternoon tea. What an amazing place. Beautiful location, the bird of prey centre was an amazing experience and is supported by lots of volunteers who look after the animals there. They did the most amazing talk and display with the animals. They encourage children to touch and feed the animals during the display which shows the birds off brilliantly. Then the day was topped off with amazing afternoon cream tea. Kids had an amazing day and it didnā€™t break the bank which is unusual for a family day out šŸ¤—šŸ˜Š the bird of prey centre do a selection of sandwiches and cakes which also looked amazing.

Well worth a visit. šŸ‘šŸ¼šŸ‘ŒšŸ¼

We've just returned from a nights stay at the hotel, a Gift from our son we had a deluxe room which was lovely very large & had a great nights sleep ,but unbelievably warm on the morning.

We were greeted by very helpful reception staff who gave us details of taxis to use as we went in to York for the day / evening on our return we visited the hotel bar which was not a great experience the member of staff was new apparently but very unhelpful & not very friendly !! Overall stay very good

User

We stayed here for one night, it is a lovely looking hotel with lovely gardens, staff were very nice and helpful, we went to the bar on the evening which was very chilled out and nicely furnished, we didn't get to eat an evening meal there but the menu was good and other people's food looked lovely. Our bedroom was very nice and clean with a nice en suite. We had a brilliant nights sleep as the room was very quite. Breakfast was a slight let down tho it was Ā£10.95 but the hot food was limited only bacon sausage scrambled eggs beans and black pudding to choose from but it was tasty. I would recommend staying here and I would stay here again if visiting York.

This Hotel was chosen at random for a reunion, there was a party of 14 of us, there's a nice Bar area where we started the evening off followed by a meal in the Hotel Dining room, a good varied Menu at reasonable prices, we all reserved a table and pre-ordered our meals, later in the evening a Table had been prepared for us all then the perfectly cooked orders arrived, we all had different meals and everything looked lovely and well presented, there wasn't one complaint amongst us all.

If you're hungry then give the Mixed Grill a try.... I did and it was lovely but it didn't leave me any spare room for a dessert ....

The Staff were very polite and well presented and couldn't do enough for our group during the meal, considering the group was 14 strong the total meal bill was quite reasonable for such an excellent meal.

The Rooms are not massive... more like cosy, very clean and comfy with TV, Coffee and Tea making kit and hanging and luggage space.

Overall the whole group were very pleased with this Hotel... Well done Best Western.

Spent one night at this very nice establishment. We ate in the restaurant. Good selection of food at reasonable prices. The food was a little slow in arriving, however, there was a wedding on site so we put it down to the kitchen being busy. The food was delicious, including the puddings. We were staying with our teenagers and had booked two rooms. They very thoughtfully provided us with adjoining rooms with connecting doors. Our rooms were clean and comfortable, providing everything we needed. The entire hotel was tastefully decorated and of a very high standard. Everything looked fresh and new. Staff member on reception was friendly and greeted us with a smile. In fact all the staff we encountered were friendly and polite. We would recommend this hotel.

Lovely friendly staff, great food and right next to York Birds of Prey

User

Had a voucher for Afternoon tea and Bird of Prey Centre. The Bird Centre was fantastic, great staff, will return. The afternoon tea was lovely but - we had booked a time so expected a table, no tables would have to sit outside (28 degrees no shade!) no way. We had to wait and be put near an exit door. The waiter forgot our Processco so had to ask, then brought us coffee instead of tea then forgot our milk!

We would return because the tea itself was very nice, next time we would demand to be seated in the lovely area designed for the afternoon tea.

User

Very disappointed, room booked was not as described, even though we checked the details on 3 separate occasions. Paid extra for slippers dressing gowns and chocolates. Don't bother small toffee crisp and a Blue ribbon were the chocolates, extra Ā£10 per night. No chocolates the second night, no shower gel, no shampoo, no water and even throw away beaker was left for us to use on the 2nd night. When I complained to reception, they said they would bring these items to us straight away, 30 minutes later we are still waiting! They promote free tickets for the Bird of Prey centre, what they fail to say is it's the centre that stands the cost not the Hotel. My advice avoid this Hotel, the Bird Centre is well worth a visit, pay them directly. Use the Hotel at your peril! šŸ˜¤

This hotel could be so good, but like a lot of privately owned hotels managed by Best Western, understaffed and lacking investment !!!

The hotel location is great, quiet and isolated which is relaxing !!! Bedroom small but fittings ok, why didnā€™t they hide the plug and airier socket behind the tv ??? Cheap lamps and alarm clocks, be better without them , but overall acceptable.

Didnā€™t like the dirty boxers left in the hospitality draw by the previous occupants though!!! Housekeeping need to up there game !!!.

The restaurant food is good, but the service is poor, why is a manager serving tables and not managing, because he is understaffed and thatā€™s why the whole thing falls apart !!! Oh and you can hear the chef screaming at staff in the restaurant a bit off putting !!

But overall in context worth what you pay but could be so much better and charge more ??

User

Stayed one night, ideal location to visit York if you donā€™t want to stay in the centre. Itā€™s about 20mins to York city centre, 20 mins from York designer outlet. the room was small and a little bit tired, could do with some modernisation and a lick of paint. The staff was friendly.

Stayed here last night

Parking tricky as car park was full

Bit miffed by the disabled parking in a gravelled area.

Good job my disabled daughter not with me.

This seriously needs addressing.

Nice food, although bit old fashioned and too many staff serving our table instead of one.

Asked for salad instead of chips but was salad dressed. Would have been nice to be asked esp as I feel this place is trying to be more than it is.

Woken up at midnight at staff putting out rubbish and having a chat outside our room.

Loo roll holder hanging off

Shower head hanging off

Advised receptionist but not sure she knew how to handle a complaint.

It is what it is

Maybe if stopped trying to be a bit more than it is this place would be better

User

Stayed at the Hotel for one night, Room was clean and tidy, the bed was a double but more like a small double and very uncomfortable, so not much sleep and no air conditioning in the room. We sat outside in the patio area due to the weather being glorious, none of the umbrellas were working as all were broken, need to be replaced as do the garden furniture, they were ok a bit rickety. After returning from York we sat outside again, the barman did come and say they were calling last orders then 10 minutes later all the lights went out outside, thought it a bit rude seeing as though there were quests still sat outside finishing their drinks. Breakfast was good no complaints there. For the cost of staying there for a night canā€™t complain, would we stay again, possibly, if they but right the wrongs, this would be a great hotel

User

Had a pleasant Sunday lunch despite being given a table by a doorway when there were plenty of others vacant. You were able to have two of the meats on offer or you could pay Ā£2 extra to have all three. Good selection of vegetables and the gravy was delicious. Both avoided the Yorkshire Puddings as they looked very unappetising.

Our visit included free entry into the birds of prey centre and that was most enjoyable, knowledgable staff, took time to answer questions and ensured all that wanted to had the opportunity to hold the golden eagle. Enjoyed the flying display and the reindeer were an added bonus.

User

had the worst nights stay ever, repoted this in the morning to reception to be handed a card and told to email the manager, i did this, recieved a reply ..( not from the manager) telling me i should have rang reception when i found problems...these problems were not hidden and should have been rectified beforehand the person cleaning the room 215 would have heared the awful noises coming from the bathroom, i think i am well within my rights to ask for a refund but as soon as i did ive had no reply...... this is terrible customer service, and 2 weeks later im still awaiting a reply???

User

We returned to the hotel for our one year anniversary in February as this is where we got married, the service from staff this time around was appalling. We booked the Yorkshire deal but werenā€™t made aware when checking in that the allowance for the meal was only allowed to be used on the first evening, we had pre booked a meal for our second evening prior to our stay. The duty manager was not prepared to allow us to use the allowance on our second evening when we realised this was the case and was not prepared to discuss it with us, instead telling us it was ok for us to check out and that we could email a complaint in. We left one night early and as a result our anniversary weekend was ruined. The staff do not care about their customers and did not see fit to resolve the issue at the time. I will not be returning to this hotel.
