Top notch facilities, myself, husband & daughter love it! Best thing we ever did was join, itās honestly changed our lives.
Thanks to Laura and Sian from the kids team for an excellent teddy bears picnic today . My 2 year old and 4 year old had a brilliant time and they loved their bear hunt , bear themed picnic and crafts . You put such a lot of effort into the detail of it , thank you .
I did the 14 days for Ā£14 trial in August and I can honestly say I LOVE this place. I've now committed to 12 months and signed up properly. I really needed to get a better work/life balance and being a member at DL is really going to help me. I visited 10 times in my 14 days and none of it felt like a chore. I loved playing badminton and tennis and also spending time in the pool/sauna/steam room/hot tub felt like a real treat! The staff are all lovely and actually care. The facilities are clean and everything about the place is just that bit nicer than all the other gyms in York ļæ½
Fantastic - York is easily the champion of David Lloyd customer service - none of that stupid one towel policy the rest of the David Lloyd clubs have been applying to platinum club members
When we first arrived the receptionist asked how she could help, I got two words out before she then started a conversation with another girl behind the desk! After having a look around yesterday the guy was friendly, helpful and took us on a tour. We liked what we saw but reading the reviews on this page, it seems itās not as easy to book onto classes and the pool gets shut off for lessons etc leaving a small space for a leisurely swim. So now Iām not sure
I have to admit loved the set up of David Lloyd everything under one roof, but price for a student of Ā£50 a month is crazy and should be revised down to Ā£30 which is more reachable
You need to look at the car parking went round about 4 times to find a spare .
Most staff friendly as can be but the sales staff are very pushy and if she had said 'Tone your muscles' once more I may have screamed. Gym is ok as fitness gyms go. Pool and tennis facilities are decent for those with kids though
Loving it only been 2 days but feel good thinking of joining for longer
Honest review,my personal experience, joined 5months ago, still not been shown how to use machines as they cancelled the evening before our 121 personal trainer sessions saying no staff, never rebooked us in, showers hit and miss temp wise, pool now getting closed off more and more for kids lessons, weekends and school holidays don't even bother trying to use it,absolutely over run with kids and that goes for the 'relaxing'lounge to enjoy your coffee after, kids run up and down screaming shouting crying, nightmare, not sure whether the coffee brand has changed but it's not good anymore. Cafe staff are always friendly as are the front desk.
Disappointing!
Hire a locker, but don't guarantee you'll be able to sit on a bench near it.
Don't expect to have a quiet relaxing time at DL after a stressful tiring days work!
Sit in the sauna or steam room - lovely - if you are deaf! Otherwise listen to the children screaming with joy as they launch into the pool. ļæ½
-Be prepared for exuberant children running all over the food areas,, changing rooms and showers. Climbing over the seating. Shouting, yelling, shrieking whilst playing and jumping in the pool, then leaving the showers running afterwards -Oh! and poolside entertainment tonight was mega size buggys mum changing her baby's nappy.
The S taff are lovely, classes are good, but fill within minutes of opening ( need more classes?)
Grump over!ļæ½
Not happy that the outdoor pool is not open for children on the first official day of the childrenās summer holidays and itās a hot day yet again and still no life guard on duty on the outdoor YET AGAIN. Please David Lloyd York will you open the outdoor pool for children throughout the day particularly whilst the kids are off school and the weather is hot like today. Note this is the best summer since 1976 and we canāt be sure when our beautiful warm weather will end so letās make the most of it PLEASE
Kindest regards

Good, but .....gym equipment you can't plug iPhones into is frustrating- still on iPhone 4 connectors especially after the "re-furb" that took place in 2016. Classes that are continuously fully booked 9 days In advance and I have to be poised by my phone for 8pm when classes are released....not good when membership isn't cheap. Clearly not enough classes of the ones people really want at the times that work for most people. Also frustrating on Saturday morning to see 4 lanes roped off leaving only a slither of pool left to leisurely swim with kids.
Lounge area needs a re-think in terms of seating layout. There's never anywhere to sit!
I'd question if DL are profiteering and not reinvesting as it's beginning to feel oversubscribed and less value for money.
Staff always very friendly though.
Facilities are average but they do have friendly staff on the counter which make you welcome. The 2 star rating has come from the lack of fitness professionals within the weights area. As a PT myself I noticed older customers using machines in an incorrect and potentially dangerous manner, it seems from when speaking with the customer that a good and solid induction wasn't given. This is an area of concern and I hope it is addressed.
Ā£85 a month for 3 month contract. 50 pound admin fee, and they wont even chuck in a free pass so I can bring my pal for day. Up tight and just down right tight lol
So I've been a member for a number of years, but it just gets worse & worse!!! You can't get booked in to hardly any classes, they are full from the minute they are available... 8 days in advance! Then today, not for the first time might I mention, they close the outdoor pool to kids on the sunniest day of the school holidays at 3pm!!! That was pushed to 3.30pm due to more & more families turning up expecting to go in, but still 3.30!!!! Seriously this is probably the only reason I have kept my membership at this gym ... the outdoor pool for school hols! The prices are extortionate but yet they are unable to put 2 lifeguards on during sunny school hols! I am appalled & have 2 extremely disappointed little boys, that the manager seemed to not give 2 hoots about as long as they went inside! Call yourself a family gym..... WHAT A JOKE!!!
Staff turn over is also high so no doubt issues there too! Cleanliness is also sometimes very questionable, particularly the pool areas & family changing area.... I guess that's due to staff cut backs too! Yet membership prices increase & they get more & more members in so are taking in more money! Membership cancelled..... it is just acceptable anymore! The only thing we will miss is Sue, our swim coach, who is absolutely amazing!
Shock horror same story every bloody year
My 5 year old is on his 3rd week of summer holidays and still havenāt be in the outdoor pool due to DL NOT STAFFING THE POOL
we have had the hottest summer in years and the weather has been steady for weeks but still nothing
Itās now the first week of all schools been broken up and day 1 at 28c outside the pool isnāt open until 4pm this afternoon
What in Godās name is going on
U expect us to pay 30Ā£ a month for a 5 year old child who cannot do anything
Itās getting really really annoying now
That pool should be open 10/6 every single day for the whole summer holiday rain or shine
We are fed up asking over and over and over again
SORT IT OUT
I'm leaving after over two and a half years. Booking classes has become impossible. You have to book at 8 pm exactly for a class 9 days ahead. Tonight i was online at 8 pm but couldn't get into the stretch class for 14th February, even though the website said there was 1 space left at 20.01. Ok if you like to sit and drink indifferent coffee. Hopeless if you want to book a class, and God forbid you should want to park your car. Clearly oversubscribed.
Great club and fantastic people/trainers/instructors, but we are leaving it after so many years: The memberships team has changed and the service they are providing is well below standards (including rude). They increased retroactively the membership fees (after we had paid them for the full year!), and now that we cancelled, they refuse to refund us the correct amount.
