About Elvington Airfield

Elvington Airfield Description

Elvington’s 3000-metre runway is one of the longest in Britain. The airfield is used for aircraft displays, motor cycle racing, car track days, vehicle testing, sports car and police driver training, land yachting, land speed record attempts, and corporate events.

The first operation was to Lorient in France on February 4 and 5, 1943, with 11 Halifax bombers. Later several bombing or mine-laying missions a week were being performed. 77 Squadron had on strength 18 Merlin-engined Halifax Mk5 aircraft, and suffered an average loss rate of about four per cent, or even higher when the target was Berlin.

What a wonderful day just the checking in process check in the main tent. Then check in at the coloured flags too. But the experience was fantastic this was a Christmas present for my partner whom enjoyed the day. It helped with the weather being so nice too. Definitely doing it again. :-)

We went for my eldest 14th birthday present.

He drove the Audi R8 and was his first time ever in the drivers seat. He said he was expecting a dual control but he had full control over the automatic which he said made it so much better! His face was amazing after his drive and the passenger ride made his day! We bought the media package too so we have all pics etc to rember it buy. Well worth the money and he has already decided what car he is driving next year!

User

We went as spectators as we bought our son a four car experience for his 21st. Although he thiroughly enjoyed it I would agree that £10 each and sometimes there were 4 in the demo car seemed a bit pricey so they certainly know how to charge. Would be very expensive just for a day out but worth it for a special occasion.

User

We had an amazing experience for both my teenagers driving sports junior cars. The instructors were amazing with them.super morning and great place too.

User

Too many moaners I see posting bad reviews.

My instructors for both the GTR and the Subaru rally were spot on and very supportive...maybe some of these posts were posdibly because they were crap drivers and weren't listening to instructors who are there to make sure you don't kill them and yourself.

Highly recommend this as not only an but to also improve your driving skills and safety on public roads.

User

Thank you for an amazing day today at Elvington Airfield. My 12 year old son got to drive cars he would usually only see in magazines. It was well worth the money and well worth the few quid extra for photo's, usb etc,,etc,, Today was something he will remember for the rest of his life and we are already looking for venues for his 13th Birthday in October. The staff were amazing, very patient and really good with the kids. Well done to the whole team. Can't wait till next time

Second time on runway 26 yesterday with straightliners completing my first 3 kilo wheelies! I love that place and if I could I would build a house on the side of the runway and wake up to everyday 😁

User

Really enjoyed my day yesterday but know how to charge with the extras which doesn't come in with the price for the event only problem I had was the waiting time my first car was ment to be 15.30 n by 16.00 they was callin me for my second car before I had been in the first one but I must have seen other people go in at least two or three cars after they had already driven alright I know they was a waiting list n the cars was lovely to drive n the instructors was really helpful too

User

Had best day today even in rain drove my dream car eleanor amazing noise power and excellent race driver telling me what to do defferntly recommend fast track

User

Had 3 treble supercars with 6th gear experience. A fabulous set of cars on a really well set out circuit. Great fun and thrilling day out for any and every petrol head out there. I'd highly recommend it!!!

User

Great place to explore and learn. Lovely cafe and also a picnic area so are not tied to eat only cafe food. Great idea to keep your ticket to return as often as you want in the following year. We shall be back again and again. The children loved it :)

User

Great event at straightliners Top speed tuesday to,t'other day,

Had a very relaxed day with great attitude and very friendly staff and participants my first event here hopefully one of many more to come.

User

Disagree that's it's expensive. We went yesterday for my husband sons 18th birthday present. Fantastic day from beginning to end. The cars are amazing, it is extremely well organised and the staff are helpful and really polite. You are not pressured to buy the extra's once there, it is a personal choice. We paid 10 to do the lap and it was worth every penny. We simply can't wait to go again. With regards to the comments about it been expensive, people should take into account the cost of the cars, the petrol that must be used, the number of staff to pay, the hire of the airfield etc etc. Brilliant day, really loved it

User

My second visit yesterday, and still haven't stopped grinning, I highly recommend the Nissan GTR even ahead of the Lamborghini or Ferrari....the quickest car there, well except the Aerial Atom, but I am too tall for that craziness sadly!

Always well organised, and the choice of cars is great and if you have the confidence, the instructors encourage you to push!

I wonder what I'll be picking on my next visit!

User

I love going here to watch the fast bike on the Staightliners race days. However in 2017 due to some runway surface issues, the start line was moved back and the bikes cannot now be viewed by spectators.

User

Got my experience as a belated 65th birthday present. Requested Aston Martin, Audi R8 and a Ferrari. Aston Martin convertible was great but not as good as the Audi R8 which was out of this world to drive. But my day was spoilt by not having a drive in a Ferrari as the queues were a mile long ( but of an exaggeration ) so ended up in the Nissan GT- R. Wow !! can that car go !! Ended the day going out for the hot laps in a Holden with two of my grandkids and one of my sons but having to pay £10 each was a bit pricy. Never mind it was a brilliant day out driving cars that I could never afford to buy. Would certainly do it again just to get behind the wheel of some fantastic cars.

User

Absolutely loved the experience. If you're going drive the Nissan GTR. Best car there. Only thing I'd say is you only do a lap and a half and it's over before you know it. 1 more full lap and it'd be perfect.

User

I enjoyed what I did but it is very expensive.

And if you have a few slow cars in front of you, your stuck behind them!

Which means you don't get to drive to your full potential.

User

I am giving this rating only because of the attitude that I received from two of the instructors. My wife and family paid a lot of money for me to drive the 5 car experience and with the upgrade-photos and insurance it all came up to almost £500. When I arrived there I didn't know what to expect but the venue was well organised. The people in the registry office were very helpful and the staff with the clipboards were also very friendly and nice. I started my experience with an Aston Martin DBS. Now I have been driving a car for a long time but have never owned or driven anything so fast so I found it only normal to be nervous. The instructor who was in the car with me was annoyed at the fact that I was not very confident. Notice that the track was wet and it was a rainy day. I explained to the instructor that English was not my first language but he seemed to ignore my comment. After a couple of laps he was almost not talking anymore and just gave up. The next three instructors were superb, I explained that it was a bit intimidating driving a car like the aventador, ferrari 458 and the Gallardo. The other three told me that I paid a lot of money for it and if I wish to drive it at my own pace and enjoy it then let it be. I was actually way more relaxed and confident then and went up to 120mph. The last instructor was almost a bit annoyed at the fact that I am not British. After he asked me where I came from and why was I there, he went on to ask why couldn't I get a job back in my home and how come I was there. He also didn't let me go as fast as the other instructors and didn't really enjoy my last car. Overall I had a great day as you don't get to drive cars like them every day. I do think though that some of the instructors need to realise that not everyone is as confident as they might be and let people enjoy an opportunity to drive something that they will probably never own

His face was amazing after his drive and the passenger ride made his day! We bought the media package too so we have all pics etc to rember it buy. Well worth the money and he has already decided what car he is driving next year!

We had an amazing experience for both my teenagers driving sports junior cars. The instructors were amazing with them.super morning and great place too.

Had a very relaxed day with great attitude and very friendly staff and participants my first event here hopefully one of many more to come.

I love going here to watch the fast bike on the Staightliners race days. However in 2017 due to some runway surface issues, the start line was moved back and the bikes cannot now be viewed by spectators.
