Why are we called the Guy Fawkes Inn? Well, Guido Fawkes was born on this very spot in 1570 in the shadow of York Minister and was baptised in St. Michael le Belfrey just across the street. You can even stay in the old cottage where legend has it, he was born.

User

This is a gem of a place full of character and atmosphere! Great staff, amazing rooms (4 poster very comfortable bed), delicious food! Ideally located in central position with great views. We had an amazing 3 nights here and will book again when we return.

Stayed for 1 night. We have been during the day many times and eaten here. Always fancied stopping and it didn't disappoint. Fantastic room (3) four poster bed and view of the minister. Slanted stairway only adds to the overall character of the building. Friendly staff and great breakfast .

User

Stayed at the Guy Fawkes hotel last night. Went to York for a girls night away. Amazing hotel. Lots of character and loved the original features. Staff were amazing. Very friendly and gave good advice on places to eat/drink. I stayed in room 1 which had an amazing view of artwork telling the story of the Guy Fawkes Gun Powder Plot. Will definitely be returning, hopefully in October for my birthday celebrations. Thank you for an amazing time @guyfawkeshotel

User

Simply an amazing experience staying here...

Birthplace of Guy Faulks

The staff are unbelievable...... The Kindest most warming of people. Since we have been here we have been spoilt. The staff cannot do enough for us. We have had the best customer service and food at the unique hotel.

10/10 for food, accommodation, atmosphere and staff......

Johnny, Dean and the rest of the crew have been amazing....

Cannot recommend this place enough.!!!!!!!!

User

Myself and my partner are here now. We are in the Belfry room now then moving to the Fourposter Suite this afternoon. This Inn is great, no good if you're over 5ft 7, lol, parts of our room have very low ceilings so you have to duck or grouse. Highly recommended for something different. The rooms look onto the York Minster and you can see/hear Mr and Mrs Minster the resident Perigrine Falcons. Love it.

User

My family of 3 had a great meal at Guy Fawkes Inn. The service was spot on, food hot and drinks cold. The staff were all very plesant and special thanks to the bar man who gave me a black jack toffee, not had them in years.

We had called in the night before just for a drink and that's when we booked our table.

Thank you to all the staff for your hospitality.

Just to be clear we did not stay in the hotel.

User

Just want to say how impressed I'm with this place

Spoke to someone via Facebook messenger about my allergy to garlic

I was told what foods I couldn't have

Even when sat to my table the waiter knew of my allergy and warned me off the food I couldn't have

Ended up with steak and sweet potato chips

It was beautiful

The rest or my party found the food fantastic and will be back next time we are in York

User

Just got home after a lovely weekend staying at Guy Fawkes Inn. Everything about our stay was perfect and we will definitely be coming back! Would highly recommend staying here. It's perfectly placed near all the quirky bars and restaurants, but we didn't hear any rowdiness from our room (and that's saying something when England had won their football match that day!) The staff were all very friendly and helpful as well. 5

User

Hotel in the city of York within the city walls. Easy walking to all the city shops, very close to York Minster. Friendly staff, good range of quality food and drink available in a building full of character that extends into the bedrooms. History, friendly city centre hotel and the city of York on your doorstep.

User

Great history at this pub. We had lunch and ate off the value for money conspirators menu - the decor of the inn has a certain appropriate historical feel to it. I was also very impressed with the polite and efficient waitress.

User

Fabulous place and the bar staff were so friendly we stayed in the bar most of our evening before the last train home. Management and staff kept us laughing and made great drink choices for us.

Will def go back, for two women on their own it was a safe bar to visit. There were some German visitors and they have them thimble tasters of draft beers, helped an American chap find accommodation as they were full, amazing service with a smile ...

you can tell staff love their job

User

Called in for a cup off tea on the way to visit the cathedral, sat in the beer garden and liked it so much we went back for dinner that evening, staff were very friendly and the food was amazing compliments to the chef, it was that good I really wanted to lick the plate, definitely worth visiting plus if we return to York we would book accommodation there aswell

User

Amazing place

Lovely warm atmosphere ,steeped in history.

Beautiful room comfy bed and gorgeous food , live music Gypsy Bill Sunday night ,Top class.

My favourite place in York and next door to the Minster ! 😍😍😍

User

We visited yesterday and everything was fine. Untill a crazy tramp walked in with her own beaker of wine, clearly very drunk and was stood behind us very close staring and behaving very weird. The bar staff behind the bar could see people leaving the pub due to this. But made no attempt to deal with the situation and ask her to leave was made. We ended up leaving as she became quite uncomfoetable with her behaviour. Disappointed that this was not dealt with. Not good for business.

User

Our room was a complete contrast to the dark pub downstairs, it was a large, light & airy room with high ceilings. The laminate flooring was a disappointment in such an historic building though.

The bathroom didn't have a single shelf to place toiletries & the shower only had 1 small metal shelf right at eye level!

Ignoring the issue of bar noise (to be expected above a pub!), we didn't expect to be woken at 4.30am by the sound of furniture being dragged around in the dining room below (TIP - avoid Room 2)!

Breakfast was acceptable, we chose not to eat other meals there so can't comment.

Would we stay there again? No, there are a number of nice looking hotels within a short distance, we'd try one of those next time.

User

My wife & I ventured in for what we thought would be a quiet drink before having dinner. Unfortunately, a group of lasses were out on the town & 7 of them sat at a table next to us & so started a cacophany of noises & screeches that forced us and another couple at an adjoining table to leave. One way to get what they wanted I suppose.

The pub has character, but we went elsewhere for dinner.
