Panic!!!! Unfortunately our permanent resident Beatrix has self released from her house. She's a head injury and has no concept of day or night. She doesn't cope well with nest building and likes to play with water and jump in puddles. She's a big lass at 1.1kg so if anyone find my prickly Peppa Pig could you message us please.

Very polite notice üòÅ please consider hedgehogs when gardening especially on allotments. They get stuck in NETTING really easily and get terrible injuries leading to infection and death, torn muscles, broken prickles and sometimes suffocation. Pea shoot (often green) netting is really the worst with goal post netting second. If you need to use it please peg it 12"/30cm from the ground. Climbing plants can go up rigid plastic or metal mesh just as well and to protect ground pla...nts the tight weave blankets are better (often white). We are in baby season and it seems such a waste when I've to attend to release them from such an awful fate and they can't always be saved. Needless to say that SLUG pellets are unnecessary. There are plenty of wildlife friendly alternatives including the nematode ones. Hedgehogs do swim for about twenty minutes before tiring and if there is a lack of rain (not at the moment obviously) they are likely to try drink from PONDS. Please try make a way out for them, a rock or training plant is often all it takes. Hedgehogs are cute but stupid and get themselves into all sorts of bother. They are only short with poor eyesight so really don't see the bigger picture.

Can anyone volunteer to help with the summer house storage build this coming bank holiday weekend? Friday afternoon 24th, Saturday 25th, Sunday 26th and Monday 27th? Sunday maybe a weather write off though! Tree root and area clearance Friday afternoon/Saturday morning with base building then summer house flat pack construction with repairs then roof fixing. We have funds for materials though donations are obviously very welcome if anyone can chat up building materials suppliers.

Busy week this week. Pete running Leeds half marathon twice for us raising money for our new unit. You can sponsor him here. https://www.justgiving.com/…/peter-bene fer-2hedgehogmarathon
We will also be releasing our remaining overwintered hedgehogs because it is finally neither too hot nor too cold and it isn't chucking it down.

HELP.... As most of you know I'm struggling running the rescue at the moment so need more help because of an illness in the family and my ms playing up. Initially we desperately need people able to help with putting up a summer house for storage and then following some garage repair (booked in with a builder) the interior needs converting to be the new specialist hedgehog unit the electrics and water are in place it will be flooring, interior wall, interior ceiling then u it'...s and shelving. The summer house was kindly donated last year but parts are rotten and need replacing. It needs a base building and a tree root removing before any of it will work. If anyone can help could you message us or if you know anyone can you tag them. I know it is a lot to ask but Pete is sweating his guts out to raise the money and we are missing around 15 calls a day at the moment.

The wildies are out and about. Please put out a shallow bowl of water each night and some meat flavour cat/kitten biscuits if you can. We will be releasing overwintered hogs over the next few days but we have a lot to go so we will resume after the rain mid week if we don't get then all out there.
Donate to help fundraise for our new unit and to support sick, injured and orphaned hedgehogs. http://paypal.me/herbyhedgehog

Thank you so much to everyone who came to the talks at Cliffe Castle. We had a wonderful time and it was great to meet people who want to help hedgehogs in their area.

This is Shark. Although the rescue is technically temporarily closed while we deal with some personal illness we do have some self presenting patients. Shark is an elderly hog who had pneumonia and lungworm. Poor chap has two wobbly teeth that will require veterinary attention but we need to improve his breathing before that happens because he would have to be gassed down and at the moment his health is not good enough for that. Like most old hogs he likes being here, heat pad, food and water provided and an easy life.
