The recent heatwave has led to more older people being admitted to hospital with problems linked to high temperatures, such as falls and dehydration. Here's how you can help:

User

Looks like the heat wave is set to continue. Here's how to keep yourself safe

Don't forget our archive display is open to the public until 4pm today in the Medical Education Centre, Hull Royal Infirmary. It's free to browse. Come and see some familiar names and faces, and marvel at some of the kit which was used in years gone by!

User

Our Annual General Meeting is underway, and we thought we'd share this interesting statistic with you. While the ideal would be no complaints at all, this indicates that the vast majority of patients in the past year have been satisfied with their care. And of course, we'll always aim to do better.

Got older relatives? Here's how to help them in this week's heat wave

We'll be holding our Annual General Meeting for 2017/18 on Tuesday 24 July, featuring a gallop through the past year's events, highlights, and financial challenges. We'll also be giving visitors another chance to look through old photos, artefacts and memorabilia as part of our special #NHS70 archive display - free admission. We’ve had a fantastic day at Pride in Hull today, representing the NHS for #NHS70. Thanks to everyone who came to say hi!

We'd like to say a huge thank you to members of the N.U.R.S.E. charity, who have funded equipment worth almost £3,000 for our vascular department.
Earlier this week, members handed a Tango Stress blood pressure cuff and SpO2 monitor over to PhD researcher, Sean Pymer. Together, the two items will be used during cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET), an activity carried out regularly to assess patient risk prior to major surgery. Use of the equipment will also help staff to provide the best possible peri-operative care, could potentially improve health outcomes for patients, and help to prevent adverse incidents.
Made up of former nurses and hospital staff, the N.U.R.S.E charity regularly supports departments across both Castle Hill and Hull Royal Infirmary, and has donated over £800,000 worth of equipment to date.

If you missed our special archive display at the Health Expo a couple of weeks ago, we're giving you another chance to take a look around and celebrate 70 years of the NHS with us. Items from our archive, including photographs, signage, medical equipment and a specially made timeline will be on display on Tuesday 24 July in the Medical Education Centre, Hull Royal Infirmary. Our Annual General Meeting will also take place next door on the 24th, beginning at 12 noon. Both the display and the AGM are open to all, free admission. We hope to see you there! We spent yesterday in A&E with my 14 year old son and I can t praise the staff enough. The waiting room at the kids A&E is a beautiful light airy space with plenty to occupy little ones. Everyone from the man on reception to the triage nurse to the Drs were lovely, patient and helpful. We were seen promptly and assessed by experienced knowledgeable staff. So thank you from The Bird family - Fin is now recovering well at home

User

We are truly humbled by the care and the support we have received from the Cardiac team in Ward 27, all those in GICU, the surgeon and his secretary for the fantastic treatment and support my husband has received following his heart bypass last week. Everyone always dwells on the negative side of the NHS, never the positive. We are eternally grateful. Thank you.

User

Thank-you from the bottom of my heart to Louise on the intensive care ward you will always be our hero getting mum home were she belonged before she had to go to sleep forever was the most amazing thing you can imagine you went above and beyond we'll never forget your kindness and the effort it took to arrange everything in the darkest hours of our life (real hero's don't always wear capes )

User

Thank you to all the staff at HRI this weekend especially those on Acorn ward who went above and beyond to make sure our little boy and all his family were cared for, big shout out to nurse Beth and her student nurse Laura love the Morton family

User

On behalf of myself, my husband and our 6 year old son to say a big thank you to the lovely staff who have looked after him yesterday and today in A and E, Acorn ward and theatres and recovery. Especially the fantastic CSW who sorted him out a fish finger sandwich for his lunch (which wasn’t on the menu!) #itsthelittlethingsthatmakeadifference

My wife and I would like to sincerely thank all the staff in the Day Surgery Unit at Hull Royal Infirmary for looking after our son Freddie during the operation on his tongue tie yesterday (7/2). Although the procedure was short and straightforward compared to many operations, Freddie’s autism meant he was especially anxious and upset, both beforehand and when he woke up. Everyone involved at the hospital really helped to reduce his anxiety and it meant everything went smoothly. We greatly appreciate their help!

My Dad has sadly recently passed away. He spent the last 60 days of his life on ward 9. I would just like to thank all the wonderful staff on the ward, the care they gave him was absoluteley outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff, they did everything humanely possible for him. Thank you so much to all the staff on ward 9

User

Many thanks to all staff in the DayCase Unit of the Vascular Department, our visit today was excellent, treatment was more than expected but the Consultant and Doctor attending were very good and the other staff were all very helpful. Glad to be home but cannot fault the treatment received. Thank you all.

User

I've been a patient on ward 60 hull royal infirmary since early hours Thursday morning the staff on there are very compassionate towards there patients I'm very pleased way they've also looked after me a great ward with great nurses and doctors thanks for looking after me the way you have ☺

I spent 6 days as an in-patient (in wards 4 HRI and 9 CHH) for an urgent spinal surgery. I found the service outstanding in every aspect. All the staff are overstretched and try their best to provide the best possible care they can. Hospital wards were clean, the food was good (coffee was awful though!) and I can only admire those hardworking individuals including the cleaners, porters, paramedics, healthcare assistants, radiographers, nurses and doctors who work round the clock to ensure the patients are cared for appropriately. Keep up the great care you provide, I salute you.

I have this afternoon had an appointment at Castle Hill ENT. Whilst waiting I could see how professional and caring the staff were to all the patients who were there. I didn't mind waiting a little longer than my appointment time. My consultant and his nurse were warm and introduced themselves and I was asked in depth questions about my condition followed by a thorough check and reassurance. Whilst NHS staff will carry out these processes as routine for many of us it is the first time and it carries with it considerable anxiety. I was put at ease immediately but with a no nonsense approach to what was going to happen - I didn't have time to worry or get tense. Thank you so much

User

I have just spent last few days in Hull Royal Infirmary . I just want to say all staff showed me nothing but brilliant care from A and E, AAU , porters , and all on Ward One. You ALL do an amazing job and you should be proud of yourselves . Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am glad to be home though xx

User

I attended the fracture clinic for the 2nd time today after breaking my foot! The care I have been given is second to none by the wonderful staff there... A special thanks to adrian and Kerry who sorted me out!

User

Excellent care for my husband in A and E last night. Staff extremely busy but care still amazing. Thank you to Alex, katie and many others who names i cannot rememeber.

User

After spending 7 nights on ward 11 CHH I got to know most of the staff and I can honestly say they are a such wonderful team .. but I would like a special mention to student nurse Gemma, auxiliary nurse Chelsea and stoma nurse Rihann they not only looked after me physically but most of all mentally! Thank you ward 11 for looking after me so well I couldn’t of got through this without all your smiley faces and see you all soon for the reversal!!!

User

Just spent the last 6 days on Ward 500 at HRI. The staff were really good and worked their socks off, especially today. Good old NHS. Where would we be without it??

Thank you to all the nurses, auxiliaries, porters etc. Hope I don't have to see you under these circumstances again.

Only downside - no TVs or day room on the lovely newish extension.

User

Cannot speak highly enough of the nursing staff and doctors, especially those on HICU 2, where my partner is currently being treated. The building is quite old and parts are looking tired but, the staff do an absolutely marvellous job under extreme pressure. Well done !!!

User

Always had the upmost respect for all Staff at Hull Royal but what ia going on lately is not only distressing to me and my family but quite a concern. I totally understand everyone is under staffed and over worked but waiting weeks to speak to someone when I have already been off work I'll for 9 months and no clear answers to my questions forthcoming just wondering what I am supposed to do? Sit and wait while the illness is getting worse no to mention impact on my family life. Sorry

User

If I could give this Trust a zero, I would do so. They came so close to killing my wife and have lied about it and refused to learn the lessons from it. Google 'Arrhythmia Story' to find out more.
