To celebrate the Humber Bridge's 40th anniversary in 2021, we will be commissioning a history book of the Bridge. We are inviting experienced writers to submit their ideas for what such a book should include. Applicants must be able to write with academic rigour but at the same time be able to engage as wide an audience as possible. Please send your submission ideas to diane.baxter@humberbridge.co.uk by Monday, July 30th.

Come and see the Hidden Histories of the Humber Bridge team on Wednesday at Scunthorpe Central Library from 3pm until 7pm, where we will ready to be collect your stories and any thoughts you might have about how the Humber Bridge has impacted on you. These collection events will lead to an exhibition that will capture and celebrate the Humber Bridge’s impact on the region – and a big part of it will focus on people’s personal memories and accounts relating to the iconic landm...ark.
Next year, the exhibition will tour Hull, the East Riding, North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire. We need as many of your stories and memories as possible. Our Hidden Histories team are running drop-in sessions at key locations across the region in the coming weeks. We’re looking forward to hearing personal accounts from construction workers and engineers who worked on the bridge, as well as from people who live by it, those who grew up around the structure and those who regularly use it. However, please be reassured this is not a public speaking event that requires people to stand up and tell their stories to an audience, only to the Hidden Histories team. Anyone attending is also encouraged to bring any artefacts or cine film they may have with them.
The Hidden Histories of the Humber Bridge project has received £65,700 grant-aid funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).

Keep your eyes peeled around the bridge on Sunday for teams from the Wacky Racers charity challenge. Over three days, Wacky Racer teams will be solving clues and visiting landmarks, all in aid of Pancreatic Cancer Action. The event started in East Yorkshire on Friday and will see 8 old bangers hit the road and follow a series of clues of three days. The aim then is to get to the clues/landmarks as quickly as you can taking a selfie with your team mate and car at the landmark.... Points are earnt in order of arrival to this locations, so you have to be quick off the mark! All points over the three days are totalled and the winner announced on the Sunday afternoon. Teams get a set of clues each morning to take them along the way, other than this the teams have no idea of the direction of travel for the event until the each morning. Now, we don’t want to give anything away, but we are told that the Bridge may form part of Sunday’s route. So keep a look out for the teams and wish them well and feel free to donate some of your spare change.

People across Hull, East Yorkshire, North and North East Lincolnshire are being invited to share their stories about the Humber Bridge during a series of open events being held in June and July. The events are part of the Hidden Histories of the Humber Bridge Project commissioned by the Humber Bridge Board and organised by Grimsby arts-based social enterprise, the Culture House. The first event will take place this Saturday at the Fishing Heritage Centre, Grimsby, between 10...am and 3pm. The Culture House team is seeking personal accounts from construction workers and engineers who worked on the bridge, as well as from people who have lived by it, those who grew up around it and those who regularly use it. Anyone attending is also encouraged to bring any artefacts or cine film they may have with them. The events aim to capture and record the human impact of the Humber Bridge, and personal stories uncovered will form part of an exhibition that will tour Hull, the East Riding, North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire in 2019. A digital archive will also be created for the project which is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund. Specifically, the Hidden Histories of the Humber Bridge team will be asking attendees to answer questions such as: What does the Humber Bridge mean to you? And, what impact has the bridge had on you? Events will also take place at Wilderspin School Museum and the Ropewalk in Barton the following two Saturdays with more events to come in Hull and Beverley in July.
