The Middleton Cross replica is based on one of several Viking-era stone crosses in St Andrew's Church, Middleton. Traditional stone carving techniques were used by the masons for the replica, who sourced the same local Oolitic limestone as the original. http://ow.ly/1zlZ30mivsA

Walrus ivory is represented in the finds from Coppergate in the shape of turned gaming pieces for a board game. Other famous examples of gaming pieces in walrus ivory are the Lewis Chessmen.

What would your rubbish bin reveal about the way you live? Viking waste pits at Coppergate have given us a fascinating insight into the nature of daily life during the period: one pit also yielded some charred bread, dog coprolite (faeces), feathers, daub, a fragment of bracket fungus, the vertebrae of an eel and herring, plus approximately 200 sloe fruit stones. These pits obviously contained a wide range of domestic and other waste, and based on the small amount of insect evidence in the pits, this waste probably accumulated very quickly. http://ow.ly/adDc30mcSSy

Would like to thank the amazing staff for the fab assistance and patience getting the electric wheelchair onto the ride. Great communication given from arrival to the finish about what the process was going to be, providing headphones and awaiting our return to assist back off. Thanks guys

User

Went to the yorvick centre yesterday really enjoyed it wasn’t what we were expecting at all and the glass floor was fabulous would definitely recommend this place to anyone going to york

User

This would be an excellent learning experience - great for the kids, too! If you're like myself, having ancestors who came to America from York, and environs, then this is especially relevant to your cultural & family heritage.

User

Thank you to all the staff who looked after Jake and family on Saturday 5 May 2018 the children were very interested and had a really nice time the staff were so helpful and had a good inclusive policy. We will be back. Saved cueing as we booked on line for a time slot best family time thank you Kirsty Evans and Cathy Booth

User

Thank you for a great experience at Jorvik.

We arrived in plenty of time for our elected time slot booked online. Was a bit busy so took a while to get in but was worth it.

An amazing place and we had brought the passport so we can go back as many times as we like within a year.

Already working on our next trip up to York from Peterborough but this time we will stay longer. So much more to explore but so little time

Thank you

User

Staff where amazing, ride was incredible and informative, enjoyed every moment! Thank you all so much. We will be back again

Also special shout out to the lady in the gift shop for taking her time to talk to me about Nathan Wade, he is missed very much, and it shows from how she spoke about him that he was an incredible person at work too. Thank you

User

Just visited with my son, first visit for both of us and he normally finds museums difficult or doesn't like them but he loved it went on the ride twice and wants to come again! Also a special thanks to will/sindri who was amazing with my son telling him all about the coins and showing him how it all worked and making sparks on his knife, thanks for a great visit and I'm sure we will be back soon!

User

It’s was a brilliant experience, it is very visually impaired friendly and the staff are lovely and extremely helpful. I love that the ride had audio description. I also loved that they had the option of large print and Braille guide at the main desk. Will definitely come back again x

User

I can not thank all the staff including Laura and Tom on customer services enough. From booking online and laura and Tom sorting out the disability access, to the very kind gentleman who gave my daughter a torch on the ride without any questions, because the first part was dark. Made the whole experience joyful and no stress! Travelling anywhere with an ASD child can be challenging, but not at all this time. The place itself was very clean, welcoming and the ride was very interesting. Thank you to you all.

User

Had an amazing time at JORVIK yesterday seeing the history of The Vikings. Been a couple of times before but the improvements and money which has been spent on the centre is amazing. Definitely worth a trip, was also greeted by a very handsome guide dressed in traditional Viking attire

User

Had a lovely time at Jorvik yesterday with my mother and children

The staff were brilliant with my children and as Max card holders with a child that does not manage busy/long queues we were fast tracked to the payment desk which was very helpful in itself.

Would highly recommend to friends and family and hope to visit again very soon

User

An absolutely fabulous museum, very factual and very engaging! The guide is well worth the money as it’s basically a small book! The tour is fantastic, really factual and very helpful staff! Would go back again!

User

Absolutely brilliant, well worth a visit. So authentic and something for everyone, I’m so glad that it has stuck to its roots and rememberd the people who worked hard to find everything on this amazing site!

User

really enjoyed the Jorvik Viking centre, all the various displays and the ride through a replica viking village along with the smells were really good and we learnt a lot about Viking life in York, really made me imagine what life would’ve been likewould’ve given 5 stars if it was bigger but don’t let this put you off! If anything it’s worth visiting for the.... poo!

User

Thought the exhibition was very informative and well presented. The only criticism was the over zealous approach of the staff whilst we were queuing outside. I understand that at busy times a little organisation is useful for ease of all customers but there were only five people in the queue and we were organised like children. Still enjoyed the visit despite this

User

Interesting place. Lovely staff. Extremely empathic and helpful when my 4 yr old had a meltdown and wouldn't go on the ride. Fab gift shop to. Maybe better when kids are older?! Recommend either way.

User

Enjoyable time at the centre. I'd recommend people previous tickets as we queued in the rain for 20 mins anyway to get in. However it is a great place to visit..really interesting and wonderful to see all the finds from the site.

User

We went yesterday took family who had travelled over from Wales. They thoroughly enjoyed it but being a resident of york we have obviously been many times before and both my husband and I thought the old set up before the terrible floods was far better . The ride is brilliant and loved all the smells and thought it was very informative but the rest of it didn't seem as good as before . And how come the Viking helmet which was found on that site is no longer on display at that site? .. we thought it was good but a bit expensive, not for us as we can reuse our tickets but for tourists I think it is .

User

I’m giving three stars due to staff being amazing and very friendly but the ride is boring and not that interesting. Very expensive for what actually is, although you can reuse the ticket for 12 months, if you don’t live in or around York, what’s the point?! It could cost a little less if you don’t intend to visit again due to logistics. I would have expected to see a “real” life battle.
