Busy day in fields that are getting past it!
Thanks to Iain Booth for taking the time to come and video us the other day! He has been doing a series of harvests across the Isle, please have a look at his other videos!!
Maize under-sown with grass!
Today we were harvesting a crop of Maize that had been under sown with Ryegrass.
This has numerous benefits to the soil and environment such as:... Adding organic matter Conserving water Retaining nutrients in the soil Preventing erosion Absorbing C02 Reducing compaction Supporting Wildlife
It was sown using a specially made disc drill into the maize at 6-8 leaf stage to ensure the crop yield would not be affected!
For any further information or enquiries send us a message!
Big thanks to our last placement student for getting the seed in the ground at such an essential time!

Busy day undersowing grass into maize! The grass should germinate, then stay dormant all summer until the Maize is cut, providing a well established cover crop to develop over winter. This is a service we offer using a specialist drill, any questions please ask!
