User

Played pool there . A pleasant pub with nice friendly staff . It’s a pity i don’t drink because that’s a place i would happily go back to

User

My sister and I called in here for a meal before the theatre, and from walking through the door to leaving, it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Friendly staff, excellent food, lasagne was gorgeous followed by the junkyard gateau. Excellent service, reasonable prices, can’t wait to go again.

User

Massive thank You to Colin, Sarah and the staff you made my reception and evening reception perfect! Like I said to you last night it was everything we wanted and more! Everything was just how we wanted it, the food was amazing so a big thank you to your chef aswell! The djs you recommended to us was brilliant and even had a cheeky dance with myself at the end of the night I highly recommend anyone to use you, I know any parties we have in future we will be having with you! We honestly can't thank you all enough, all your staff is so friendly and polite.

Once again from myself and Les thank you for making out day perfect xx

I'm just back from a few days in 'ull and stayed in the hotel right next to this place. I actually went in on the first night of opening since it was taken over as I fancied a quick pint and it was literally spitting distance from my hotel room. I was made to feel so welcome by Colin & Sarah and it was refreshing to meet publicans that know how to run a pub as it should be. The place is spotless and has all the qualities that a good pub should have, Inviting, cosy, friendly decent beer and hosts that actually care and show a genuine interest in their customers. These qualities can't be faked, especially to someone like myself who has spent much time in the local. I always think that the yardstick for any pub is the standards of the toilets and theirs are spotless. My time in 'ull was made all the better for meeting these two and spending some time here and I will certainly be back to see them both sometime in the future when they will also be serving food and if it's anything like the rest of the place then it will be excellent.

User

Had a table booked for 5pm for a nice pub tea before heading off to the theatre for the evening.unfortunately it was a night that hull city centre had ground to a halt due due to a faulty bridge getting stuck! Knowing we wouldnt make our slot we ended up having the menu screen shot to us whilst stuck in traffic and placed our order, giving them updates as to when we was getting close.they where very accommodating and managed to have our meals ready the second we walked through the door.(6pm rather than 5!)the food we had was good pub grub but unfortunately due to our time scale we had to shovel it down and run to the theatre for the 6.30pm start! Would of liked to of spent longer here as it was a lovely atmosphere.we will be tryimg again and next time we will make sure we have more time! But a massive thank you to the staff for accommodating us as you did! X

User

Great homemade food. Lovely warm welcome... "enter as guests, leave as friends"... definitely.

User

User

Called in for a quick drink before going to the theatre which is just across the road.we ended up having a few and also a meal aswell. Everything was spot on and the landlord and landlady and all the staff couldn't have been more welcoming. Will definitely visit when back in hull

User

After visiting the New Clarence pre Theatre, for drinks last week. We decided that a Sunday lunch was beckoning as we were so impressed with the lovely atmosphere and friendliness in the pub. We were certainly not disappointed!! The quality and quantity of our meals was outstanding. Colin and Sarah, the landlord and landlady made us so welcome. We can thoroughly recommend a visit and will certainly be back again.

User

A wonderful afternoon with some fabulous people. Thank you to the landlord and staff for making us so welcome, a 5 star experience 👍👍👍

User

We went at 5.15 before we went to the theatre for 7.30 start. Food was good service was good. They forgot to warm the puddings though so we had luke warm custard on cold crumble. We did tell them and they did apologise.

User

I popped in with my dad after we'd been in town. We were the only customers in. The place had been decorated and was clean and bright. The landlord was very welcoming and pleasant and explained they were having building work done so we're not doing food. I'd been going there for years whilst working nearby and it was always busy and buzzing. I sincerely hope that once the building work is completed the pub will be teaming with life as it used to be. Good luck.

User

Nice pub.nice staff but very disorganised waiting along time food and not told how long it would be before left rushing to eat food before theatre.has potential to be really good just need to be much more efficient and organised.

User

Came in earlier this evening for a pre theatre meal. Waited over 40 minutes only to be presented with the wrong meal. I was very annoyed and asked for my money back only to be told to calm down. If this is an example of customer care then you haven't got any. The first thing you should have done is give me my money back and then see if you could redress things in any way. I hope you can improve but you will not have my custom.

User

Went in the new Clarence at 4 pm today for food after reading how good reviews were. There was about six people in and all the tables were reserved apart from a tiny table with 2 stools. We asked what time the tables. Were reserved for and was told anytime. We asked if we could sit at one which was booked for later and was told no. What pub let's anyone reserve tables for the whole afternoon and night. Will never go again. Went to old English Gentleman where service was outstanding.

User

Terrible service. 2 ladies chatting behind the bar do I asked if one could serve. She said yes ok. Very pleasant but why wait to be asked. The food was abysmal. Luckily i changed my mind about having chicken as nobody else in eating at 5.55. 2 of us had jackets which must have been cooked the day before all brown in the middle. Normally if you ask for beans and cheese jacket they put the beans in jacket with cheese on top. Our friend had Lasagne. She said she actually doesn't know what it was. It too was all brown on top and not from grilling. Yuk. Never again.

User

Christ!

Why I can’t zero rate this gaff I’ll never know.

Food cooked by a woman in civvies with a woolly hat on and staff with attitude because the meal isn’t right is obviously a recipe for disaster which the woolly clad cook is completely comfortable cooking.

Please don’t bullshit someone with 30 years experience in the hospitality business under his belt never again will I venture in there again.
