Today is World Cancer day and here is my story!
Football was/is my life, i breath eat and sleep it.
... in 2013 i spent a lot of time un well, my days was mainly spent sleeping! The only time i wanted to leave the house was to play or watch football..
On the 4th August enough was enough, my mum phoned the doctor and demanded i had blood tests done, after several months of "he's a growing lad, its growing pains" the same day (around 1 hour later) i was phoned to immediately go to Sheffield M3 when it was the told i had a form of Cancer. On the 5th August i was diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukima) for anyone this is absolutely devastating but for me it changed my life completely. For someone who lived to play football to have that taken away was more destroying then the illness.
Around 12 months later i started playing again, just for my local team and i was just getting back up to speed after a very long time out. As you can imagine this was a massive thing to me as id really missed playing.
This lasted a whole of around 2 months before i heard the news that i had relapsed, after knowing everything I've had to go through already the thought of having to fight it all again reduced me to nothing. i didn't want to do it again, i wanted to give in. Me and my family had already suffered enough without having to do it again.
The aftermath of all this has left me infertile, my liver and kidneys don't work 100% and sometimes mentally i can have a wobble, but I'm still here today.
Luckily the strong fight my family (mainly my Mum)showed me meant that giving in wasn't an option and she forced me to become stronger and get better.
EVE MERTONS was a massive part in helping me recover emotionally and physically. The work they do is 100% the best about and thanks to their help I'm able to write this today.
I vouched to give back and help other people in the horrible circumstances i was put in pull through and get to the other side.
I ask however big or how small we all donate to this wonderful cause and help other people like i was once helped.
