The Cumbria Easter Rally, the UK’s biggest, FREE rally of classic commercial vehicles turns 21 on Easter weekend, Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st April 2019, when the quintessential event returns to Kirkby Stephen and Brough.
The event features over 250 painstakingly restored vintage lorries, buses, coaches, Land Rovers, military and utility vehicles, tractors and other farming vehicles, vans, wagons, steam engines and historic pedal bikes, that evoke the nostalgia of their er...a, as well as food & drink stalls, a children’s roundabout and a Fun Bus. There will be free vintage bus rides between the towns and from Kirkby Stephen station. The fabulous classic vehicles taking part in this year’s Rally date back as far as 1919 and all have great stories to tell. They include several wagons from the famous William Hunter Collection, the 1984 minibus used in the film, Pride, about the Welsh miners' strike, buses used across the UK and the Isle of Man and old tractors that have been part of our farming history.
Why not visit us and have a great day out for free! www.cumbriaeasterrally.com

Today 11 April marks 30 years since the Settle & Carlisle line was reprieved from closure. A big thank you to all the people and organisations involved in the massive fight to save this incredible railway line. we have prospered since then, stations restored, more services, staffed stations, our own Dales railcard, signal boxes saved, freight returned. However, we never rest, we know you want better quality and faster trains and more destinations such as Scotland. We are promoting this and the latest copy of RAIL Magazine has a 15 page article all about our efforts. Here's to the next 30 years and thank you to everyone for being part of the success we've had.

We're all about supporting local businesses here on the Settle - Carlisle railway. One of our best is Country Fare in Mallerstang, who has been supplying our on train trolley since 2004.
Why not try one of their award winning bakes, the ladies in our office love the Rocky Road, my fave is Cherry & Sultana, but there are so many more to choose from, even a gluten free option. Pick up our 'Explore & Save' leaflet at the station or on the train and grab a bargain and support local business.

The weather is great for photography at the moment with those clear blue skies against the dramatic backdrop of the Dales and Eden valley. We get sent many pictures and have an Instagram account with some of the best on.
Why not pop one of your own on and rate others, there are some fantastic examples.

Appleby is getting some upgrades, firstly our lovely new shelter is being built slightly larger than the one at Settle, see piccie. Does this make Appleby the number one station on the line now? Northern are also putting in a ticket machine and customer information screens and we have just had the lovely original clock at the station fully restored.
We think that deserves an open day at the station for the whole town to enjoy, watch this space.
