About The Friary Nursery School

The Friary Nursery School established in 1988. Family business. Ideally located in the shadow of the Beverley Minster.

The Friary Nursery School Description

The Friary Nursery School was established in 1988 and is a family business. It is ideally located, in the shadow of the Beverley Minster.
Our aim is to provide a happy and secure environment in which children will be allowed to develop intellectually, physically and emotionally. The school is a private Nursery School educating children aged 2 to 5 years.

Our older children are taught pre-school skills and the younger children are taught social and developmental skills, as we operate within the Early Years Foundation Stage. We uphold the principles of this framework by recognising each child as a unique child, helping them to develop positive relationships within an environment that supports and extends children's development and learning.

Children can attend Monday to Friday, full days, mornings or afternoons. We also offer an extended day from 8am to 5. 30pm as of September 2014.

The two sessions daily will be 9. 00am to 12 noon and 1 to 4pm.

We charge an hourly rate of £4.

The children can bring their own packed lunch or the Nursery provides a healthy and nutritious lunch for the price of £2.

The Education Authority funds 15 hours a week at the Nursery for both 3 and 4 year olds, from the beginning of the term after their third birthday. The Nursery is now registered to receive 2 year olds allocated with the 2 year old funding.

The Nursery runs during most school holidays. More information nearer the time.

We have two rooms for the two age groups. 2-3 years and 3-5 years. We have lots of interesting equipment. The sand and Art easel are always out, and the sand tray doesn't always contain sand!

There are always a wide selection of jigsaws of varying difficulty, out for the children to use. There is always a teacher supervised game out, with the objective of learning colour, shape or number.

The children are encouraged to use the story corner where we finish each session with a story. The children all enjoy the home corner and the various role play areas.

We have two outside areas. The rear where we keep the greenhouse for growing projects and the front where we have a large selection of play activities.

Half way through the sesson we have a drink and biscuit and go outside to play. We have various mark making activities, such as crayons, felt tips, white boards, doodle boards, chalks and chalk boards.

We have a wide selection of dressing up clothes for both boys and girls. We have a computer and a laptop for the children to use whichever room they are in.

When it's bad weather we stay indoors and have music and movement, and other physical activities in the Nursery.

We enjoy cookery classes, making biscuits and cakes, pancakes, soups, birthday cakes and fruit salads. We have annual celebrations at Easter and Christmas. We have an Easter Bonnet parade and a Christmas party. Throughout the year the children learn lots of poems and songs. At Christmas we bring these all together and the children enjoy performing in our annual Christmas concert.

The children are taken out on trips both in the local environment and further a field to the farm and to Sewerby Park.
