We hope you are tuned into Look North tonight to see a sneak preview of the exhibition opening in our Artspace gallery tomorrow. Delighted that Luke Jerram has made this the last stop on the exhibition tour.

Winterton-based jewellery artist Alastair Scargall is our “Jeweller of the Month” in the Craft Gallery with his nature-inspired pieces, including this beautiful bee necklace with amber stone.
There’s only three spaces left on Alastair’s workshop on February 16, to make your own sterling silver bangles. Join us for a late Valentine’s treat to yourself - more info on our website below, or give us a call to book on 01652 660380.

Is one of your feet feeling a little chilly? Getting soaked because you’ve mislaid your umbrella? We have an odd sock, contact lenses, house keys and even a My Little Pony all left behind at The Ropewalk and sat in our lost property box.
If you recognise any of these items or think you might have left an item behind when you last visited us (we have a few more bits not photographed), pop into The Craft Gallery where it might be waiting for you!

Thanks to Tesco Barton in the community, our film matinees are going down a treat (look out for Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again! in a few weeks).
We’re already planning our season for Autumn 2019 so we’d love your feedback. What’s been your favourite film that we have screened, and what ideas have you got for the next season? Is there any ways that we could improve our matinee performances?
Importantly, would you like to see our matinees a little earlier (perhaps starting at 1.30pm), so you can join us for lunch/cake beforehand and still be home before it gets dark? All comments very welcome!

From January 19, The Ropewalk will come alive with the ticking of more than 2000 clocks, as part of an exhibition celebrating 18th century clockmaker and inventor of the marine chronometer John Harrison, who grew up in nearby Barrow upon Humber.
“Harrison's Garden” is the brainchild of artist Luke Jerram and includes clocks of all types, both modern and old-fashioned, laid out in swathes of beds and borders in a single room.
The exhibit began a tour of National Trust properti...es at Nostell Priory, where John Harrison was born in 1693 when his father worked there as an estate carpenter. It’s particularly fitting that the tour, which has also visited Castle Drogo in Devon, Gunby Hall in Lincolnshire and Penrhyn Castle in Gwynedd, will finish only three miles from where John Harrison had his workshop.
The clocks will be on display in the Artspace until March 24, after which many of the most valuable pieces will be auctioned to help pay for a statue of the inventor in Barrow upon Humber as part of the Better Barrow project.
Luke Jerram has created a number of extraordinary art projects which have excited and inspired people around the globe, and is renowned for his innovative arts practice and large-scale public artworks, including “Museum of the Moon” which can be seen at The Collection in Lincoln from March 2 - April 28.

After the festive excesses, come and clear your head with a walk around our Studio Artists’ Exhibition in the Artspace, to see (and perhaps treat yourself to) some of the work they’ve been creating in their Ropewalk studios over the past year.
We’re open from 10am - 5pm today, so come and visit us!

Last chance for a cuppa and cake with lovely Lisa (and the rest of our Coffee Shop team) before we close at 5pm on Christmas Eve. Come in from the cold and choose a slice of something nice!
Don’t worry though, because our doors will reopen at 10am on Thursday 27 December, and the coffee will be brewing!

Oh the weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful, since we've no place to go, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
Snuggle up by the fire with these hand-knitted merino wool hot water bottles from Janie Knitted Textiles, or a sumptuous velvet scarf in all the colours of the rainbow! Don’t forget tiny toes too, with these adorable baby slippers from local artist Nicky Dillerstone.
We might not yet have snow, but preparation is key!

User

If you’re planning to roast chestnuts on an open fire this season, do it in style with these manly aprons for only £15. Hurry, because we only have a few left!
Whether you’re pairing it with a shirt and tie or your favourite festive sweater, the tweed-style print will make you feel like a very refined chef in the kitchen!

User

Great news that The Ropewalk’s project, “Illuminate”, has gone through to the final stages of the Aviva Community Fund. Thanks to your votes to support this project, we are guaranteed £500 but will hear in January whether we have won a larger amount to help us install new energy-efficient lighting in our Gallery and Ropery Museum, as well as motion-sensor screens in the Museum with films about the heritage of the building.
Fingers crossed for good news in January, and THANK YOU for your support!

Santa baby, forgot to mention one little thing, a ring...particularly the “Antique Silverware” ring collection from our featured jeweller of the month, Milomade! There’s still time to pick up something shiny for a loved one this Christmas!
The collection focuses on historical details and designs that are given new meaning and lease of life. Made from the stems of sterling silver teaspoons, these rings are limited-edition wearable heirlooms available in a wide range of designs. The provenance of each ring is carefully researched and documented, with information about the silversmith, city and year of assay accompanying each piece.

I was encouraged to go to the Ropewalk museum and gallery by my teachers at North Lindsey College. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit in fact I have been back twice since then to view other exhibitions and on top of that I booked onto a work shop day in May. I took my two 12 year old granddaughters on one of the occasions and they were intrigued by one exhibition on the day. We always visit the cafe there the food is good. I will be going back soon. Its a small venue to visit but worth it.

User

I use this Venue to deliver a range of courses in Barton Upon Humber and would recommend it to all who are looking for a quality venue at a reasonable price with excellent

Very attentive, polite and well mannered. Even bringing the little one her own cup of coffee froth. She loved it. The food was very good quality and worth the money. The ice cream is a bargain too. Defiantly be visiting again. Next week to bring out balloon back fir the festival. Oh they're also part of the Councils Teapot Train. So we have to go back to know what we are voting fir!! Lol.

Amazing place! Miss the flapjack it's the best in this world... Is it gluten free? I've been diagnosed and don't know if I can eat it again!! :( xx

User

A sentimental journey for me .My dad was the Home trade manager for Halls Barton Ropery Hull . He died at work in March 1986 . He was a time served ships rigger. Lots of memories at the Ropery . My dad would have loved the way the history of the ropery has been displayed.

User

Went to a music gig so only had experience of the bar, good and efficient service with a crowd.

User

The place was busy, it was lunchtime. The service was efficient and the staff were polite, friendly and helpful.

The food was excellent. The soup was hot which is rare these days and the quiche was freshly made.

All around, a very pleasant experience.

User

Sadly a hidden gem. We found the Ropery Museum by pure accident. I've been to a Ropery at Chatham Dock Yard so said to Mother, I think this is one, look at the length of the straight building! However, Its advertised on the bill board as The Ropewalk with commercial units, artists gallery and Cafe, but sadly does not mention the very interesting Ropery Museum inside, with genuine artefacts, photos and literature of the life and History of the Rope Making industry here from the 1700's through to its closing day. How sad this is not publicised more. 4 Star is purely for the Life and history of the Ropery museum of what it use to be. I would only give 1 Star for the Ropery being recognised as all the advertising is purely commercial - no prideness of what the building was. Not 1 leaflet - nothing. This little hidden gem feels like its been totally forgotten. The wooden sign from the car park just says craft centre and cafe!! needs updating to include Life and History of the Ropery Museum!! So very worth a visit. Free parking, Free Entry
