Our #558XmasTreat on #ChristmasEve is one of those pictures you have to study in detail and think ... now how did John Dibbs get this image? Count the rivets in the air intake!! (Only joking...) Taken under a setting sun giving excellent lighting. #beauty in #aircraft

It was not until 2009 (a gap of 17 years from the last aerial photo-sortie), that the crew of #XH558 were able to meet up with a #camera ship allowing John Dibbs to provide a superb set of images. Note the fading paintwork and no SOGB nose markings as yet #558XmasTreat

Working round Doncaster for some 45 years have seen and heard. the Vulcans when they were at finningly and scampton. Sounds and sights you cant forget. Miss her in the skies.been to see her at ginningly a couple of years ago . a great day out. Not to be missed👌

User

What a great afternoon. Thank you to our personal guide Patrick, who not only showed us around but also gave us a great history lesson. If your looking for a present to give an enthusiast then this is it, a VIP tour. Thank you again. We will be back.

User

Vulcan was the iconic queen of the skies. We remember seeing her out on exercise over Norfolk many years ago, flying low over the flat terrain - it was like our own personal air show. We were so impressed with the slow and deliberate manoeuvres and the awesome roar of the engines. We made a point of seeing her several times over the years. We miss that now that she's grounded, and air shows are not quite the same!

User

Took my dad to see the engine run experience on Saturday for his 90th birthday.. An amazing few hours and well worth every penny.. A huge thank you to the staff, including all the fantastic volunteers for your help and kindness.. Great afternoon and would recommend to anyone..

User

She flew over my house a couple of years ago returning home. I could hear the noise but couldn't see her until she appeared over the rooftop; It was an amazing sight. It brought back memories of my childhood, when we would go to the Finningley air display where the Vulcan was one of the main attractions. It's fantastic that we have such an iconic aircraft preserved at Doncaster.

User

Saw the Vulcan for the last time at the Port Rush air show in 2015. Flew up from New Zealand to see this great aircraft. The howl of the jets still makes my hair stand remembering that day.

User

Nothing needs saying About the Avro Vulcan, just stand and watch her and listen for the Howl, and you too will fall in Love with this beauty. Sad she will never fly again.

I Loves to watch her go vertical at full power, the ground shake and that roar you just can not beat it, even to this day.

User

My partner and I first saw the Vulcan at a Biggin Hill Airshow about 1991 I think. We heard her before we saw her, the as she came over the hump she took off , the sound was amazing and the sight was breathtaking, so Glenda my partner said she enjoyed watching XH588 so from there any airshows she was at we followed as much as we could, what a great way to enjoy any airshow!

User

I was stationed at R.A.F. MARHAM as an airodrome fireman driver in the R.a.f. Regiment from June 1959 till demob in Dec. 1961 so there were mainly vulcans & victors stationed there I served in R.a.f. For 5yrs from Dec.56to Dec.61 and served one year on Christmas Island 58 to 59 and still think the Vulcan was one of the best bombers around Long may it last

Cheers everyone Al.Gee.

User

I was a civilian in tanker pool at RAF finningley in the late 80's/90's. I refuelled the Vulcan after it's display and was given a tour inside and out , inside the cockpit, Bombay ect, it was an experience I will never forget . Thank you for keeping her so other people can have the same fantastic experience that I had

User

I had the chance on Saturday to participate in a ground engine run experience with Vulcan XH558 at Robin Hood Airport. I have been monitoring the progress of the Vulcan to the Sky group from afar (Australia) for a number of years. In recent years I have had the opportunity to do a hangar tour, see XH558 fly at Blackpool Air Show in its final flying year and now I have had the chance to get real hands on. Not only did I get to share the engine run experience but I was also lucky enough to be the participant to go up into the cockpit for the final part of the engine run.

I have no hesitation in recommending anything that the Vulcan to the Sky group provide to their supporters. The organisation of the engine run experience was exceptional, the volunteers very helpful, professional and knowledgable. thank you for a fantastic morning. I look forward to being back in England next year and hopefully seeing XH558 in her new home.

Keep up the fantastic work!!!!!

User

Had brilliant day out seeing tbe XH558 at Doncaster. The crew and tour guides were very knowledgeable and it was great seeing inside the cockpit, watching the maintenance checks and the hearing the famous Vulcan "howl". Highly recommended!

User

Had a fabulous evening at AVRO Heroes night for my husbands birthday. What amazing people, absolutely fascinating listening to true heroes.

Evening slightly tainted by learning that this was the last public event for the Vulcan until new premises are passed by the council and she's moved. Could be up to a year!!!! So sad to keep this beautiful lady away from her adoring public xxxxxxxxx

User

Fabulous experience yesterday only heard about it because my husband was on a coursein the hanger and he saw it being moved about..

Fascinating day we all thoroughly enjoyed the experience my granddaughters learned so much about it and was great to see it close up..had some very interesting talks and conversations with some liveky people. Well done so glad we went ..long live the Vulcan x

User

Fab fab evening, can't recommend it enough. Well organised, good food, fab entertainment and where else do you get the chance to have such a good evening dining under the wings of such a beautiful plane like the Vulcan!

User

Air show in 1987, Cornwall. All I could see was wing. I couldn’t comprehend the size until the sound of the engines as it taxied to take off. Amazing sight. The equivalent to the Lancaster. Few planes hold that rank.

User

A truly fabulous day yesterday 12th May. Words fail me??!!

I have for years admired "The Vulcan".

To be able to sit in the cockpit and experience the power and hear the legendary 'howl' of the engines was awesome.

Magnificent fantastic awesome majestic - - - as stated "words fail me" !!!! May I thank Brian our guide and the ladies from the South Yorkshire Aviation Museum - so helpful.

£250 to watch a taxi run or "volunteer"

£150 to watch and engine run

Miles away from any other museums or aircraft

Or go to Elvington and see a Victor, nimrod, buccaneer, Dakota and 3 more aircraft fire their engines up and give them a blast at full throttle plus see and entire museum with dozens on aircraft, pieces of kit and other item all for £10!

Plus if you asked nicely (or in some cases ahead of time) you can have a guided tour of the aircraft including sitting in the cockpits and that's generally for FREE!

And one final nail in the coffin they don't ask for eye wateringly huge sums of money! To put her in a none existent hanger that'll take as lot longer than they think to build

User

This company should be ashamed of itself. The Vulcan is left outside exposed to the elements, why is she not inside her hanger? Where are all the hundreds of thousands of pounds that have been donated over the past 3 or more years? Spent on salaries and the like for the directors. This is nothing but fraud, XH558 should NEVER have been taken to Doncaster airport. The place cannot cope with public wanting to go to view her.
