About Yorkshire North & West Army Cadet Force

Welcome to the official facebook home of Yorkshire (N& W) Army Cadet Force.

The Page is managed and run by the PROs of the County's five Companies.

Yorkshire North & West Army Cadet Force Description

The Army Cadet Force (ACF) can trace its origin as far back as 1860 when the first cadet unit was formed in London. Today the ACF is one of the largest Youth Organisations in the UK with over 41, 000 cadets in more than 1, 600 Detachments all over the country, and it continues to provide the young people of today with some valuable life skills.
Yorkshire (North & West) Army Cadet Force is one of the largest Counties in the ACF and is open to all young people who are between the ages of 12 and 18, and are currently in year 8 or above.
Yorkshire (N& W) ACF covers a huge geographical area in which we have 44 Detachments. . . From Catterick in the north of the county to Huddersfield in the South, where ever you live within the County of Yorkshire, you will find a Detachment not far from you that offer Adventures, Friendships and most of all LOTS of FUN! .
The Headquarters for Yorkshire (N& W) ACF is at Queen Elizabeth Barracks, Strensall, York where a team of permanent staff work to support the many Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAV’s) the keep the county running and ensure that the fun never stops.
So. . . If you’re over the age of 18?
Then not to worry, then fun doesn’t end there. . . why not consider joining as an adult instructor? We are always looking for quality CFAV’s who wish to train as instructors. No military experience is needed, just a passion and commitment for working with young people.
Whether you live in North Yorkshire or West Yorkshire, there is a Detachment near you.

YORKHSIRE CADETS BECOME RADIO ROCK STARS IN GIBRALTAR During Exercise Rooke’s Rock Emily Loxton, from British Forces Broadcasting Services (BFBS) Gibraltar, came along to interview some of the cadets about what they had been doing since they arrived. (See the link below to find out how you can listen to the interviews).
It was perfect timing, as the interviews took place immediately after the cadets had finished their training exercise in the World War II tunnel systems and, ...understandably, they were all full of adrenalin and excitement
Emily was keen to hear all about the cadets’ highlights so far in Gibraltar as well as finding out about their army cadet careers and aspirations for the future.
The cadets involved in the interviews were…Sjt Cerys Yates, Cpl Liam Middleton and LCpl Oliver Broughton (Yorkshire North & West ACF), CSM Jack Pettigrew (Humberside & South Yorkshire ACF) and Sgt Ellie Rowbotham, Cdt Ciaran Kharikhou, Cdt Luke Ingram (Queen Ethelburga’s Combined Cadet Force). Also interviewed was Lt John Shaw from Queen Ethelburga’s College CCF).
The interviews are going to be aired on BFBS UK the week commencing 6 May. As soon as we have a definite date and time, we will update this post.
To get ready to listen to the interviews please follow this link:
https://www.forces.net/radio/stations/bfb s-gibraltar
A copy of the audio file will be posted as soon as it becomes available.
The cadets all came across really well and were natural media stars, well done to you all. It was an exciting end to a very enjoyable day.

Here are a few more photos from the last couple of days in Gibraltar where the cadets visited the World War II Tunnel Museum, the Moorish Castle and St Michaels Cave. Needless to say, the cadets and adult volunteers enjoyed their last hours in Gibraltar, taking in the history, enjoying the views and the sunshine before the journey home. We would like to thank Lt Col Steve Emerson, and his team of adult volunteers from Yorkshire North & West ACF and Queen Ethelburga's College in York, for giving our cadets a fantastic experience enjoying and taking part in a range of top end cadet training.

A few more photos from Gibraltar...including our Sunday BBQ

It's been another busy few days in Gibraltar. All cadets and adult volunteers enjoyed an evening meal at Bruno's Restaurant on the marina on Saturday night.
On Easter Sunday we all visited King's Chapel for a short Easter service conducted by Padre Danny, the Navy Chaplain attached to Devil's Tower Camp.
It was then back to camp for a quick change of clothes ready for an afternoon's dolphin safari. It was a great afternoon even though we only spotted a pod from a distance.
... On Easter Monday the cadets had a little bit of free time in the old town to go souvenir shopping followed by a visit to St Michael's Cave, the World War II Tunnel Museum and the Moorish Castle. Here is a selection of photos, more will be posted in the coming days.

The cadets has done my son a world of good it a amazing organization for young adults. It give them the skills to learn new thing in life and for to know who they are as a person.

One of the best parts of my teenage life, taught me so much, met so many amazing people (cadets and adult instructors) achieved so much with this organisation. From a first aid qualification to Gold D of E. With my determination matched with the devotion of my adult instructors I was able to achieve my Master Cadet qualification.

This organisation seriously boosted my confidence and taught me valuable life lessons. As an ex Cadet myself , I seriously recommend that anyone eligible to join does so.
