Huge park high on the hill above Lancaster. Playgrounds for small children and larger children in separate locations. Butterfly house. Used by the Dukes (local theatre) for walkabout performances each summer. Free entry but pay parking, you can avoid that by parking nearby and walking in.

A great park for kids and adults with lots of areas to explore, two kids play grounds, historic buildings to admire and a butterfly house which actually is not just that but has a garden area, birds and small animals/insects area and the actual butterfly house with butterflies, fish, turtles etc. It also has a coffee shop. Would highly recommend. We enjoyed it on more than one occasion. Popular with dog walkers.

Visited Butterfly House on a wet, very windy morning in October. Butterfly House looks like it used to be an old palm house. As well as butterflies, it has a few lizards, tortoises, koi and a quail. Warm and steamy. In separate small buildings, birds, meerkats, and some sort of rabbit. Attached cafe very good and fast. Car parking is pay and display.

An absolutely fantastic park. Lots of walks, lots to see. A great place to relax. Go see the Ashton memorial - its amazing. Also have butterfly garden, cafe and shop.

Amazing place! Lovely view, great history behind it too! Waterfall, fountain, woodland, everyone can find something there.
Recommended anytime of the day and the Lancaster Castle looks great from the Ashton Memorial!
I read somewhere that Lord Ashton commissioned the memorial to honour his late but before building work was finished he had remarried! Awkward 😂

Great park good for kids and dog. Widely varied and butterflyhouse in the summer. Cafe serves good food but they stop serving food at 3pm.

Great place for children. Butterfly house is a lovely experience and there are other small animals/birds and minibeasts. Lovely walks and a couple of good playground areas. Just wish the cafe served food longer (finish at 3pm).

One of the best local parks and worth a visit if you are just passing through. Great views over the whole city and out towards Morecambe Bay and Cumbria. incorporates lots of gardens, fountains, waterfalls, two monuments and the butterfly house, cafe and mini-beasts area. Several playgrounds for the smaller visitors.

Beautiful park set on the moor with stunning views across the city and Morecambe Bay to South Lakes. The butterfly house is well worth a visit. In the summer, theatre productions are put on with a unique feel. The Ashton Memorial is a fine late Victorian Folly. Lots to discover and safe playgrounds for younger children.
