Winter Skin Care The winter is not a good time at all for our skin. Humidity drops both outside and inside, this combined with central heating systems can cause the skin to become dry, dull and sometimes cracked all of which can age the skin.
Top tips to keep your skin looking healthy this Winter:... 1) Reduce hot showers. Sadly those hot steamy showers can significantly dry the skin out .Stick to a lukewarm temperature to lock more moisture into the skin. 2) Soaps are better than gels when washing. Gels tend to contain additives and alcohol which dry the skin out. Rinse soap or gel off straight away as the longer it stays on the skin the more it can dry the skin. 3) Wear sunscreen. Even on cold cloudy days Ultraviolet light can penetrate the skin and cause damage. 4) Bring out the humidifier. Central heating systems pump hot dry air into our homes which affects the skin.Humidifiers put moisture back in the air which in turn helps to prevent skin from drying out. 5) Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise. With the cold weather and indoor heating drying the skin moisturises form a protective layer. 6) Reduce exfoliation and peel treatments to your skin. Peels, masks and alcohol based toners can all strip the skin of oils it so desperately needs during the Winter, instead use a cleansing milk, foaming cleanser or a no alcohol toner during this time.
