Earlier today (Monday, 23 July) we closed off part of Filton Avenue in Bristol after a suspicious item was found inside a property.
A small number of residents were asked to vacate their homes as a precaution while the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit examined the item.
We’re pleased to confirm the EOD has now removed and safely disposed of the item and the road has reopened.
... A scene remains in place at the property but residents are now free to return home.
A man in his 30s arrested in connection with the incident remains in police custody.
Supt Simon Ellis said: “I fully appreciate how unsettling it can be to be asked to leave one’s home and I’d like to thank those affected for their patience and understanding.
“Public safety is our absolute priority and while we are confident there is no risk to the public, officers will remain at the property tomorrow to carry out further enquiries.”

Work we have been doing to combat hate crime has been acknowledged in a new national report.
Six police forces were reviewed by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services and all – including Avon and Somerset – were praised for their best practice in the area.
Nationally the police needs to do more work around the way it deals with hate crime.

We've charged a man with murder this afternoon (18 July) over the death of Joseph Jennings in Yeovil on Saturday 14 July http://socsi.in/drCZB
Mr Jennings was found with stab wounds in the stairwell of a block of flats in Great Western Terrace and died of his injuries. A 27-year-old Yeovil man is due to face magistrates tomorrow, while two other men arrested in connection with the death have been released without charge and are now being treated as witnesses.

A man and his nephew have been jailed for life after stabbing another man to death in a Bristol nightclub.
Eroll Anderson, 56, and Ian Power, 40, were today (17 July) convicted of the murder of 37-year-old Jamel Powell following a three-week trial at Bristol Crown Court.
Power was sentenced to a minimum term of 27 years while Anderson was told he'll spend at least 21 years behind bars.
