After years of wanting to visit a Christmas market this year was the one when I decided to book two nights away so my Mum and I could visit. The town is beautiful and the market even better. We printed out the map Bath Christmas Market provided on their website, which helped us to see where all the chalets were located. Such a variety of things on sale from food to homeware, clothing and jewellery (don’t listen to the review about only cheese and gin being sold, couldn’t be more wrong). Definitely made us feel the Christmas spirit. After dark is the best time to see the market in all its glory. Especially with all the Christmas lights. Would definitely return!

We arrived in Bath on the train to avoid any of the parking nightmares. It was busy but it is a big and beautiful place that lots of people want to see and so you shouldn’t expect it to be quiet.

The city is so beautiful that you can get out of the market and take in the views. The market was much less busy on Friday and Saturday evenings and much easier to see everything. It was busy on Saturday during the day and not easy to move around so best avoided then. There is a great variety of music across the city and an excellent theatre group performing the Christmas Carol in the evening outside the Abbey by the tree - how much more Christmassy feelings are people looking for?!

I have been to Bath a few times before but this was my first visit to the Christmas markets and I would go again. The website is very good snd you could look at the stalls before you visit to see where you want to go.

This is my 3rd year coming to Bath Christmas Market, this time the chalets were nicely spread out not crammed together which made navigating the market so much easier. A nice friendly atmosphere, especially if you take the time to talk to the stall owners.

If navigating & parking in the city centre is tricky I would highly recommend using one of the park & rides.

Too many reviews not happy about prices, well remember the quality will be higher and you’re supporting a small trader trying to make a living not a business empire keeping shareholders happy.

But why do I only give it 4*, because of the lack of variety; too many gin stalls. Also length of time available other nearby markets may be smaller but run up til Christmas.

People are complaining about crowds and parking, well I’m afraid that’s life at a popular event!! My sister and I used Airbnb and stayed over night which I would highly recommend as we walked into town avoiding car parks. It was magical with beautiful carol singing outside the Abbey and a range of lovely stalls. Yes it was busy, yes there were crowds and yes sometimes it was hard to see everything but when that got too much we treated ourselves to a boozy hot chocolate to cheer ourselves up! The food market was great with plenty of shared seating which meant sharing with strangers but also chatting too. Yes, a bit expensive but that’s again the nature of popular events. If you’d been stood in freezing cold for 12 hrs you’d want to make it worth your while I’m sure. I’ll definitlg be visiting again but definitlg staying overnight locally.

Having visited the last two years on a weekday and at opening hours, the only day available to us this year was a weekend day. The Saturday was horrendous, so many people jammed into the small square by the Abbey. It was impossible to get to some of the stalls. I would suggest the same as another person, introduce a one way system around the square. It just made it very stressful and unenjoyable. I also agree about the catering chalets...it is not ideal or safe for people to be wandering around with hot drinks amongst the crowds!

Elsewhere , although busy we were at least able to walk up to the chalets and I purchased goods from the ones I wanted to.

If you can go when the market first opens in the morning and preferably a weekday.

After planning to go for 5yrs or so but never having the time I finally took my wife to the market last Wednesday.

I couldn't have been more disappointed with the variety of vendors. 200 stalls but half of them are gin, cheese and chocolate. A lot then selling generic stuff you can get from anywhere. Pretty much every item was obscenely overpriced, I don't mind paying a bit more and helping out local traders etc... but when you are selling a 750cl bottle of lemonade for £4 it becomes ridiculous. I had planned to get all my Xmas presents done but there wasn't much for kids and only so much cheese you can give as a present.

On the plus side it wasn't overly crowded, the atmosphere was nice and we had a good day and felt very christamsy despite not buying much. Glad I went but will be a good few years before I go again If ever.

Went to Cardiff Saturday and they have half the stalls but double the choice.

1st time. It all looks very festive. Buskers on every corner made for a great atmosphere...there is certainly plenty of Talent well done you guys. I spent the whole day but sadly bought nothing although my pocket was ready to be releived of its cash. Lots and lots of stalls but very little variety. Not a place to buy presents really unless you like chocolate and cheese!. The city looked beautiful lit up for xmas and to be honest the market was a bonus as there are plenty of shops in the town to spend in....love the place to be fair! Parking was an issue and was expensive but that is to be expected. All said and done it would be a shame if it wasn't supported.

Visited on a Saturday. Was expecting it to be busy but not dangerously overcrowded in several areas to the point no-one could actually move. Needless to say that in an emergency situation this could be a terrible situation. Badly laid out and badly designed. Too many stalls crammed in especially by the Abbey. Heard other people also saying the same and how disappointed they were. Does not even compare to European Christmas Markets. Live near to Bath but very unlikely to return this year because of the overcrowding and poor layout.

User

It was the worst experience of my life! I will never go to this event in bath again. Cannot eat at a venue only over priced and cold food from the street venders . We could only find one lot of public toilets and the queue to that with two children was horrendous. You go to a cafe expecting to be able to use a toilet to be told you have to go to the ones near Debenhams if there was anymore we couldn't locate them so once at the top if one of the children needed the loo it was a mad dash through the huge crowds and you couldn't even get close to a market stall . It was a waste of time and money , let's not mention the delayed and cancelled trains!!
