About Betteshanger Park

250 acre Park, near Deal in East Kent, with cycle tracks, leisure paths for cycling and walking, established woodlands, wetlands full of wildlife.

Betteshanger Park Description

Betteshanger Park, part of the wider multi-million pound Betteshanger Sustainable Parks scheme, is located on the site of the former Betteshanger Colliery, near Deal in East Kent.

Betteshanger Park sits on the former spoil heap and is an outstanding space for people to access and explore the outdoors. The 250-acre site is a centre for outdoor sporting and adventure activities.

The Park provides access to a variety of environments including woodland, grassland and marshland. It is the most important cycling centre in East Kent, with a 3-kilometre road cycling track providing safe, traffic free road cycling facilities. The track is ideal for families with its safe environment for children to ride and also for serious cyclists where training conditions are ideal. There is a further 10 kilometres of mountain bike trails, all of varying difficulty, designed to challenge and excite all levels of cyclist. A range of bicycles and helmets are available for hire.

Other activities at the Park include an outdoor playpark, military fitness, forest school, archery, den building, fossil hunting and geo-caching, plus a range of exciting seasonal events.

Betteshanger Park can be easily reached by the A258 and has ample on-site parking.

You guys should show the football on Saturday on the open air cinema screen. So many people are asking where the nearest place is that people can take there kids to watch the game (kid friendly not a pub)

User

We had such an amazing time today. Thank you bringing this to our town. Great family fun

User

We are so lucky to have Betteshanger on our doorstep, I took the kids today to do the Geocaching, it was a bargain at £4 (non member price £5) for our group, staff were really helpful, we took the dog, saw parts of the park we never go to, even my daughter who hates going for a walk enjoyed it! Finished with ice creams and a great cup of tea from the cafe. Feel we great fantastic value from our membership, really look forward to new visitor centre opening.

This is the first time I have visited the place since I was a kid when my family worked the pits and it is amazing to see what has become of what was essentially a waste land. The place is a great example of going back to nature and for a £3 parking fee to spend as much time as you want walking around nature is totally worth it. We spent an hour just sitting on the river bank watching the dragon flies with not a soul in sight (weekday afternoon though) a much needed break from the stresses of work would recommend to anyone

User

Not much signage as to what is available on arrival , although we did enjoy our cycle around the park without any traffic, ideal for teaching your kids to ride a bike and you can hire them too .

My son came with friends today and had an awesome time. They did archery MyPT and mountain biking all for under £20! Great value, great outdoors. We will be bringing him back..

User

Just a quick note to say want a fantastic activities day our school had. An all action game of archery tag in the woods to start with followed by some exciting mountain biking afterwards. The staff for the activities were helpful and brilliant with the pupils and the buffet lunch provided by Lauren in the cafe was tasty and exceptional value. Thanks all for making it such a great day for our pupils, Jim.

I was due to take my son snow tubing yesterday, however because of the awful weather it was understandably cancelled. We were then offered to rebook for the next day which we happily agreed to. The next day was then cancelled due to mindless vandalism, again outside of the parks control. This time I opted for a refund and I have to say how well the whole situation was handled and really quickly too. Well done to the events team and all the staff!

I always loved this little jewel on my doorstep called Betteshanger Park, but today my love became even stronger. The staff in the park is always very helpful and polite and today they exceeded.

I was running with my dog this morning, but my dog became very tired and overheated as the weather suddenly changed. We were in the middle of the park and probably still about 25min walk to the car park. I kept giving my dog water and tried to walk him slowly, but he still refused to walk. I would carry him, but he is well over 40kg, so I would struggle to do it. I decided to use different muscle and it clicked to me, that the park has an emergency number. I wasn't sure, if it was appropriate to use it, but I'm crazy about my dog and I would do everything to help him, so I called the emergency number. The guy on the phone answer straight away and was very polite and helpful. Kieran and David saved us :) They arrived very fast and picked up and dropped us in the car park. They drove very carefully to not make my dog uncomfortable.

Thank you so much for all your help. You are real stars. You helped me and my dog and we are both very grateful. He is doing very well and both of us enjoyed whole experience and our little trip in pick-up van :) It's very important, that I can enjoy the park and feel always safe there.

Thank you once again Kieran and David :)

Had an early start to miss the heat of the day with my son (12) clocked up some miles whizzing around the track and as we have hybrid bikes, we took advantage of the off road tracks too

Then fuelled up with brekky afterwards - the new visitor centre is under contract but looks like it will be a great asset

Noticed there is also showering facilities should you need it too

Had a great time with friends watching the Greatest Showman open air cinema but it is also a great place for walking and cycling ....

User

Had a great day at Betteshanger Park takening part in KM charity run. Great place to raise money for a good cause only downside was the parking machine wouldn’t take money or card so had to pay on line😀 Will definitely be going back soon 😀

User

Great place for the whole family to cycle, run and have some great outdoors fun.

User

Great night at the open cinema watching the greatest showman! So refreshing to attend a venue where you can take your own food and drink and not be penalised and ripped off! Such a great atmosphere very relaxed and enjoyable! Well done Betteshanger park looking forward to the next event

User

Excellent area to adventure with all the family. The new Cafe offers fantastic quality food and value for money with great service. Highly recommended.

User

Been coming here for years, not just for the trails (of which absolutely love), but also for a nice walk, bring a picnic let the kids roam free on there bikes. Great place and love all the events that Betteshanger are continually bringing to the area.......keep it going everyone at Betteshanger!!

User

Absolutely gutted today!! Came today with family and friends, and was heartbroken to find ALL of your adult trikes were "out of service". I cant ride a proper bike due to balance problems, and had to spend the day walking whilst the rest of my party rode their bikes.

User

We paid £26 for a family of 5 to do the scavenger hunt. It was dire, poorly laid out and people had no idea if they were going in the right direction (we spoke to several other people who were in the same situation). Kids then got to the assault course and there was no guidance I truly do not know how anyone can justify the cost of this! If we had paid a nominal £2 or something would have had no issue but at £26 expectations are that it would be slightly different to the many other scavenger hunts we have done that have been reasonably priced.

It's about a year since my last visit to the park and was looking forward to a hot lunch. Not a chance a sign up saying "no hot food due to staff shortages!". Had to wait over 10 minutes just to get a hot drink. The catering use to be fantastic. Really gone down hill now. Not good for visitors who are diabetic and can only buy cakes or chocolate bars.
