great place to wild camp, great view across the bay, £10 a night, food was excellent, great staff, lovely surroundings inside and out, definitely be going back again next year, happy days!

User

We visited today for lunch staff were very helpful...... the food was exceptional and plenty of it . The view is also very special always visit when down here . Thank you cannot wait to return.

User

Superb pub with glorious views lovely staff and best all the food is really good particularly the Sunday roast amazing. But we’re trying to keep it secret so don’t tell everyone. 🤫

After a long walk around the beaches and countryside we stopped here for a short rest, we ordered the tuna jacket potato and I was shocked when it came out and the potato filled the whole plate it was huge with plenty of filling. Was a short wait for the food and when it did arrive it was delicious I couldn't finish it all. Can't wait to come to newquay again and will be stopping for some more lovely food. The views from the bowgie were amazing. I highley reccomend stopping here the staff were very plesant and helpfull

User

Amazing setting for dinner. Food was overpriced but came out very quickly despite the pub garden being full. I have never had a pub lunch with a view that spectacular in the uk so that makes up for the food being overpriced.

User

Food very overpriced and very basic! Paid £11 for a cottage pie and peas! Very small portion and to be honest have had better ready meals! The view of the sea however is the main attraction, definitely wouldn’t eat there again!

User

1 breakfast menu £8 9 item you can have all or knock any items you don’t like still £8 no good for kids didn’t see a kids menu for breakfast but still worth it if an adult

User

Unfortunately I have to agree with most of the reviews here. The food is tolerable but not enjoyable and immensely overpriced.

We had the Sirloin Steak meal - the steak was over cooked for my liking but I could deal with that however unfortunately the meat had a very unusual iron like taste to it too. Sadly I left most of my meal. The chips, peas, mushrooms and tomatoes were all very basic. Would have expected the same quality meal from a Harvester etc for half the price.

I have given 2* as aside from the poor food, the view was lovely. Nice place to go if you just want a drink.

User

Really disappointed! You pay for the view not the food as its very poor! Service and staff are appalling!! All like zombies! Very expensive for very poor and basic food. Dodge it!

User

Not been here for 25+ years.

My husband drove my daughter and I here as a surprise meal after playing pitch and putt at Holywell, so no cooking for us.

DO NOT BOTHER we both had Fish and chips..... seriously the fish was just a box of Young’s out of the freezer (I use them at home for a quick meal)- shocking!

Will not return again

User

If you enjoyed the tasteless beef burgers from school dinners, I would highly recommend. If not, stick to a pint of cider, enjoy the view, then eat at the nice cafe next door.

Didn't ask for my money back but should have!

User

Have been many times before and always given 5*. This occasion food was poor and not hot. I just chose a burger from the menu at £9.50. It looked as though it had come from a fast food van, very poor quality. We have eaten at much better places during the week. I also suffered from an upset stomach in the evening. Only gave 2* because of the stunning views.

User

Fantastic views but shocking food with shocking prices. Thinnest crab cakes i’ve ever seen, children’s fish fingers grey and watery, and ‘chips’ were hard dark brown cut potatoes. Desserts a ridiculous price - £5.95 for sponge and custard! We regularly visit Cornwall and eat out at lots of different places - next time we will just have a drink there!

User

Drove all the way from Cheshire and 1st stop was The Bowgie. Been coming here for years, lovely views and a great atmosphere but crap lager. Clean the lines will you. Drank half and left the rest. If you come here stay away from the draught lager till they sort it Disappointed.

After many years coming to this pub, we went last night, with my 16 year old daughter and 80 year old mother. Very busy with lots of families and young children running around. We found a lovely table with a beautiful view where we could sit and enjoy our meal and have a nice quiet chat. However, when ordering our food at the bar, we were told by a lovely young girl that we were unable to have the table as my daughter wasn’t allowed in the bar!!! Really...? She is a young adult!! She felt rather embarrassed, and so was the poor girl behind the bar. I think if this is the case, to save the awkwardness, notices should be made clearer, maybe a polite notice on the tables. I’m sorry, but I won’t be recommending, and definitely won’t be coming back.

User

Went at Easter and was so disappointed spent £68 on 5 main course and what and absolute waste of money our Drinks were an extra 20! . We have visited Cornwall and this particular pub for over ten years and it has really gone down hill. Food was poor and you can get better in. Wetherspoons for less than half the price. Overpriced poor quality by way of example two small triangles of naan bread ( about a third of a naan) 2.95 steak pie with two pieces of meat and lots of onions ! View is amazing so call for a drink but don’t waste your money on the food

Supervisor wasn't bothered that my gluten free meal was as ordered, it came out with gluten items on the plate. Didn't get a meaningful apology, got offered to wait for a new meal to be cooked or a refund. Had to sit there while my friend ate her meal. Then they served my pudding! Manager was too busy to speak to me. Will not go there again.

User

My partner and I had a meal at the Bowgie Inn tonight. The cottage pie had hardly any meat in it,just like a lumpy gravy with little squares of carrot in it,topped with a sloppy mashed potato. It resembled a supermarket ready meal, but didn’t taste as good. The other meal we ordered was a moussaka. This tasted ok but again, hardly any meat or aubergine in it,just lots of potato slices. The place is obviously skimping on ingredients, serving unsatisfactory food.Needless to say, they can’t possibly have a decent, skilled chef in their kitchen because they would not be serving food of such poor quality.Extremely disappointed!!

User

I used to love it here years ago, but we went in for food with my 2 boys who are 13 & 14 and found a lovely table with a great view, only to be told that they don’t allow children to eat in that part of the restaurant. When we asked why we were told it’s an area where they don’t want kids running around!!! They’re 13 & 14.....they’ve not run around in a restaurant for over 10 years. They’re both almost young adults. Really disappointing, ended up with a rubbish table and food wasn’t up to much. Won’t be going back!
