Clevedon Marine Lake Description
Welcome to Clevedon Marine Lake, a sea filled lake, refreshed on high spring tides, maintained by MARLENS - Registered Charity 1156426. This a wild swimming location, not a Lido. It's a great asset and it's free. That's the model; there are no lifeguards, so please make your own risk assessment, stay safe and enjoy!
Events are organised from time to time, when the lake may be closed for short periods. There is and always has been a no dog in or around the lake rule. The beach in front of the Little Harp is dog friendly.
Depths of the lake are posted around the walls. Please wear something on your feet to avoid slipping. The nearest public toilets are behind the amusement arcade and near the bowling club entrance. Please take your rubbish home to recycle if possible.

Paddle board Lessons will take place on Clevedon Marine Lake on Wednesday 1, Thursday 2 and Friday 3 August for Adults and Children 7+. Interested people should visit the Bath Paddleboard Centre www.bathpaddlebpoardcentre.co.uk
Please send in your lake pics here: pics@clevedonmarinelake.co.uk Especially if you have any underwater shots to show how clear it is!
Good bathing water quality at Clevedon Marine Lake.
We took a water sample from Clevedon Marine Lake on Wednesday and the results this time gave a count of E. coli at 260 cfu/100 mL and enterococci at 22 cfu/100 mL. The water quality in the lake is therefore deemed 'Good' as stated for Coastal and Transitional waters in The Bathing Water Regulations, 2013. We will be taking regular samples for testing in between overtopping tides, and when there is concern about water quality – and will keep you posted on updates.
This weekend, please take a look at all our helpful signs, keep yourself safe, the lake tidy and have a fantastic time with all your friends and family. If you can pop a pound in our tin too that would be very much appreciated!
Drew sent this photo, this is his first time in a kayak, well done! Are you a first timer in the lake? Send your pics in, we love to see lake users having fun.
Andy is raising money for the Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal by swimming across the Chanel in August. Long endurance swims in Clevedon Marine Lake have been an important part of his training. Please read his story.

Statement from MARLENS: The water in Clevedon Marine Lake was emptied on Saturday 14 July and the lake was re-filled with water from the Bristol Channel by the spring tide. Water quality should now be good (see the Environment Agency results from checking the water just outside the lake). Marlens will continue to monitor the bacteria count in the lake. Many thanks to everyone who helped this unscheduled drain and allowed a refresh in time for the rest of the weekend.
More fantastic shots of refill from the Severn. Thanks Tim Clouter!
Beautiful photograph from Les Baker. Thank you so much!
Why does draining the lake look like so much fun? Thank you to these volunteers who got up early and unplugged the wall. You too can join the team!
Thank you Hilary, what a refreshing sight that will be, swimming on again!
No swimming signs were put up earlier today at the lake. Thank you to everyone who has shared the information and offered to help tomorrow at 9.30 and 4.30pm
Strong volunteers needed for Lake Drain this Saturday. MARLENS are looking for helpers to open the penstocks at 9:30am Saturday and close them at 4pm. Please share! Please email Chair@marlens.org.uk. Many thanks !
Please share.
Check out the tides and heights. Anything over 12.6 metres should go over the wall. Weather affects the tides, low pressure increases the height of the tide.
No dogs means good clean fun for everyone Dogs are not allowed at Clevedon Marine Lake to reduce the risk of unfriendly bacteria draining into the water. Swimmers, children and adults learning to kayak and sail, paddle boarders and many others use the lake every day, and a single gram of dog waste can contain 23 million faecal coliform bacteria, known to cause cramps, diarrhoea, intestinal illness, and serious kidney disorders in humans. For this reason there is a No Dogs or...der in place at the lake and on the spot fines are issued. Dogs can be walked along the upper promenade, Poet’s Walk and on the beach in front of the arcade and Little Harp, when accompanied by responsible dog owners who bag it and bin it. Photographs of dog and their owners misusing the area can be sent to community.response@n-somerset.gov.uk
No diving Please look at our signs around the lake which show the shallows. Don't dive!! There is no lifeguard at any time, so please take care of yourself and the lake and enjoy your visit!

I swim in the Lake almost everyday - I love it! It's so beautiful and tranquil...
Great place for a late afternoon/early evening swim when the sun is shining and summer is in full swing.
Good place for open water swim training and the kids had fun as well.
Best place to spend a summers day, my niece loves it.
Absolutely amazing place! Love it to swim safely in the sunshine! Everyone was lovely and really easy to get to. Only thing I would say is to take some sort of aqua shoes as the floor is quite rough. Really good cheap day out
