Saturday morning flow

Flexibility and mobility...What's the difference?
Being flexible and and bendy is great, being able to move and control your body in that end of range motion (mobility) is even better.
It the first part of the video I am flexible enough to widen my feet to the edges of the mat but I don't have the mobility to move and control my body in this position. Narrow my stance and that's my true mobility for this movement!
... Sometimes being flexible we end up putting our bodies into places we don't really have control over so always be keen to work on your end of range strength rather than just going as far as you can just so it looks better!!

Be aware of your body and realise if you are really working yourself properly or are you cheating without even realising. Both videos I'm working into my hips, one more so than the other.
Video on the left even tho I'm raising my leg, I compensate the movement by shifting my body to the right.
Video on the right, same exercise but doing it pressed firm against the wall means I can't cheat my body by shifting my weight and I'm forced to work a lot harder to get the same result... as I isolate the hip more!!
Next time you move make sure aren't cheating yourself!!

What's better than having the flexibility to do certain things? Having the strength to completely control and own the movement!

When a second feels like a minute. I felt like I held this for 10 minutes rather than 10 seconds! Moving the right direction nonetheless!!

Persistence is key. Just over 2 years I had an operation on my ankle and after a few months rehab, pistol squats seemed like an exercise I just wouldn't be able to do again, given the restriction I had in my ankle!
Though I stuck with the rehab programme from Physiofocus and I slowly gained back my strength and mobility and this is me now working on my 4th set of pistol squats.
So no matter how far away something seems, do the right things consistently and you will get there!
