Hi Everyone, Thanks for the amazing response to the offer, there are only a couple of days left so if you want to enter and be in with a chance of winning you have until this Friday... I have posted about the fires on site at Cwmcarn Forest Drive recently, please note that this does not effect the valley floor, campsite, visitor centre & lake. Good luck everyone...

User

Hi, some images of the fire damage that has been posted to the friend page. Gives an idea of what the fire service has been fighting the last five days...
Please note that these photos were taken under supervision, the site is still dangerous and no one should enter the site until it is safe and we get the all clear from the fire service.

Hi All, the fire at Cwmcarn forest continues to burn and flared up again today fanned by the increased winds, elements of the fire were visible from the visitor centre. The helicopter was called in to assist the units on the ground and these will remain on station as required. Footpaths and cycle trails onto the mountain remain closed for your safety. As soon as there are any significant changes we will let you know. Thanks for all the kind donations to the fire service crews, they do appreciate it.

User

LATEST UPDATE... The fire is still burning, it is now on the Twrch bike trail, it has also reached twmbarlwm.. helicopter dropping water on the mountain at present.

User

Hi, there's no further information from the fire service so at present the cycling and walking trails will remain closed until we receive an all clear. Smoke is still visible and fire engines are still in attendance on site. Rain is forecast for tomorrow so hopefully that will put an end to it. Please note that the centre is open as normal as is the valley floor and lake if you were hoping to visit.

User

Hi All, URGENT MESSAGE. Please note that all the bike trails and footpaths on site are currently closed at the request of South Wales fire brigade. They are currently fighting a large forest fire on the sirhowy valley and they fear it could spread. Please note that this is for your own safety. The valley floor is safe but please no wandering into the forest or grasslands. We will post when we receive further details. Cwmcarn Forest

Went to visit Santa in the grotto today! What a fantastic set up. Lovely place, great food in the cafe. Fantastic staff and great customer service. So polite and very welcoming! It was such a pleasure and our son loved the grotto. Would recommend to all

User

We have been visiting for a few years but have in the last year started visiting once or twice a week. After a busy morning in nursery my 3 yr old loves coming here for lunch. I can't fault the food, prices are good and the staff are very friendly.

It's great for him to ride his bike and gives the dog a good run too.

User

We have a lovely time today visiting Father Christmas. The winter display was beautiful and the Elf toy workshop was brilliant. It all looked absolutely fantastic and Santa was wonderful. My little boy who is 5, was chuffed to bits with his present and is so excited now for Christmas. He even thanked me for taking him to see Father Christmas. Well done to the staff for creating a lovely Christmas experience that was great value for money too.

Lovely coffee and homemade cake in the cafe after, which was very reasonably priced, and a lovely look at the gift shop.

We’ll be back soon. Thank you and Merry Christmas to all the staff!

User

Only our second visit here and my children love this place! Definetly a 5* from mebeautiful walks and staff very friendly and helpful there.

User

One of the best places to visit in all seasons. Lovely gift shop and fantastic cafe. Great craft sessions for the children during school breaks. Brilliant Santa grotto at Christmas too!

User

Lovely couple of hours this morning doing the Esster Trail with my husband and our two little boys, thoroughly enjoyable morning, the boys would get so excited finding the carrots and animals, then lovely food in the visitor centre afterwards x

User

Just got home after a wonderful couple of days camping. What an amazing experience, fantastic campsite and facilities, great value for money and wonderful walks, shame about the wasps but can't be helped. Our kids really came out of themselves, they had fun and made friends and we reconnected as a family, what more could we ask for. Will definitely camp lots more in the future!!

User

I remember doing the drive with my parents and grandparents back in the 70s and being amazed by it then.

It is even more amazing and beautiful now with so much more to it

User

Had a wonderful time today at the Clay workshop ! Anna was a great instructor and kept all the children engaged ! Not an easy task when the age range of our group was 4-9 !! She made the work shop great fun and took the time to make every child feel special and congratulated them on their works of art ! . This was the first workshop I have done but will defiantly be back for more !!

User

Found this place yesterday after living in Wales for 2 years :-) it's beautiful, huge and will take us a long time to explore which we love :-) the cafe was gorgeous, food was brilliant and nicely priced. All staff helpful :-) will be coming back soon for a visit. Also love the fact that you can bbq there as well!

User

Cwmcarn forest drive is my favourite walk.oh and I have been going there since 1999 almost every week for years when our Dalmatian dogs were still with us.it looks a bit wild at the moment with the tree felling going on but we still go.shame about the picnic areas disappearing but not much longer now I hope.we walk there for hours and I always feel at peace with myself up there rain or shine

User

Been meaning to take the dogs here for ages! Well worth the trip. Plenty of parking, fabulous walks, even for the not-so-fit like me. Dogs loved it. Will be making it a regular weekly visit from now on. Hopefully will sample the food in the Visitor Centre next time!

User

Beautiful views, stunning walks, great for mountain biking, just perfect.

User

Went yesterday to see Santa, but alas the snow got the better of the big man. The woods looked stunning with the snow. We must come up in the summer as only have been in the winter.

User

We stayed in the pod with friends next door. Was so much fun and the kids loved the walks (which was a suprise) they even enjoyed a dark night time walk too.

Signposts could be a bit more clearer, didnt know the pods were the first turning as it just said camp site (to me that meant tents and caravans).

The pods were cosy and warm, but the worst night sleep ever, but that was our own fault. Will definitely take blow up beds next time.

It's a shame they don't allow small fires as we were freezing towards the end if the night. Could do with maybe a light each side of the pods that shine on the picnic tables as it is pretty dark and even with 2 small lanterns & 2 phones, we were struggling to see our playing cards.

The cafe is lovely looking and was nice to sit outside. The breakfast was nice for the price but not very warm. No option for vegans & no dairy free milk available, only nasty uht crap, but

other than that we enjoyed ourselves and will definitely be going back again.

User

Very nice location for camping, the caravan spaces are big but the access to pitch the van in is a bit tight. Single axle caravans only. Moutain bike trails and walks all over the place. Gates locked @ 2200Hrs though, so make sure you're back in time. Not much specifically for kids, only a tiny little climbing frame but you are in a forest so they can run wild

User

Great place to go - lots to do. However not all roads are open yet. Update as of 17/10/2016

The roads are still closed to vehicles from the pit wheel car park, though you can walk and cycle on them. The majority of the trial network is open (both walking and cycling) however there is still a small diversion on the top of the Twrch trail as there is still some on-going clearance work, this should be completed in the next few weeks.

User

When your having events you need to consider the local residents and provide parking or limit visitors. We live near the entrance and visitors are dumping their cars anywhere in the streets and have no consideration for the residents
